Smart ForTwo 450 - Anti Roll Bar Links & Lower Arm Replacement - "It's A TOTALLY Different Car Now"
We have been working really hard on my Smart 450 recently replacing the entire front and rear suspension, springs and exhaust. With bringing the suspension back into line we noticed a failed anti-roll bar link and lower arm bush on the NSF.
£50 and an hour's worth of work later - we had replaced these failed components and massively improved the car.
Dad took the car for a test drive and claimed its a totally different car.

For someone whose never had a rear wheel drive car, the front axle looks very odd without drive shafts. Great work "DAD" again, who makes every job look easy to us novices.

Well done Jon and Pete again another great repair on the smart and will make so much difference to ride and handling and will be like a new car. I've found some drop links have flats for a spanner on the inside edge and some use a Torx bit in the end.

Your dad says it drives like a new car so it is money well spent. I had to change a couple of front control arms on my Mercedes C200 (MoT advisory items) and I noticed the difference straight away. The front wheel alignment will need to be checked and adjusted. Don't wait until you fit new front tyres unless you're going to be changing them very soon.

To be fair the old control arm was a lot better quality than the cheap pressed Comline item so ideally press in new bushes on these…. I don’t think they have a very hard life in the little RWD Smart….

The one we replaced was also cheap and aftermarket and not OEM 👍

@@JonCoupland OK ! Hard to judge quality I guess without trusting a brand but OEM German probably better metal and rubber.. so you're presumably on the 3rd one for that side of the car, even though the droplink was possibly original ?
