In this very unproffessional video we drill into our rear exhaust silencer and weld on a sport exhaust tip. Although this seems a complete bodge we did study the design of the rear exhaust silencer and apply at least 2 minutes of careful thought into where to drill the hole.

You are correct ,in the cars you mentioned , disconnecting the battery will erase radio code,however on the smart 450 you can go to settings and turn code off ,so when you disconnect battery ,it won't ask you for a code ,which I found useful as I am doing a lot of electrical work on mine . Anyway,after our comments ,the video uploaded has confirmed that he will block off the original end pipe .In my opinion ,that's why he got all that white smoke on start up .

Must say that put a smile on my face, picked up a cheap 02 Smart last week cos the RRS is waiting for a slot to get the compressor replaced, I think i will pick up a couple of exhaust ends and make a Brabus style one... Thanks for the insight and ideas....

Good luck ... they are a hoot to drive...remember you have to wave at other Smart drivers..... weird but you get used to it !

Bit of theme going on with " loud exhausts " 👍 I really think you would make an excellent high school teacher metal work or science teacher actually I even think my science teacher had the same jumper ! After watching your video I decided to alter my Roadster with 2 38mm dia pipes in the centre section angled downwards to miss the valance - nice sound and more torque :) Also blanked the original pipe....

should be cutted the tail so when the air pass trough one hole the sound become more clear

Well, that all worked out well, what is the gizmo you fitted to the battery to save frying the electrics when welding ? With a carpenters claw hammer you can achieve anything ! Chris B.

It's to prevent damage to cars electronics when welding . You can just disconnect the battery ,(even safer)should you not have one

Fernando Azenha.B : Yes I realise it is a device that we can easily do without by disconnecting the battery, however, when the battery is disconnected it sends all the electric services crazy, this little device should avoid that problem.

Didn't see you saying you knew what the device was for ,(did you edit your post?)hence my answer . I have used a similar device (wurth brand)for years .The only advantage over disconnecting the battery is it doesn't reset memories in your cars modules ,like radio ,etc.Its not as safe for welding as disconnecting the battery ,since they been known to fail . Disconnecting the battery will never make your cars electronics do crazy things ..In fact , disconnecting it + joining both cables for a certain time ,is the first action on any service manual ,wherever your cars electronics go crazy by themselves.

Fernando Azenha.B : In my haste to ask the question I neglected to indicate that I knew what the devices purpose was, I was really interested in knowing where one could be acquired, the problem I have had when disconnecting some vehicle batteries is that the radio fails to recognise the security code when powered up again, with something like a Range Rover that is packed with computers and other "delicate" electronic bits I am a bit reluctant to shut down the power, although last time I changed the battery there was no problem at all, I didn't even need to input a security code. Nicely done and very fast but yes,should have blocked off the original end pipe.Would have better sound and no loss of back pressure

Hi, well nice job! I'm thinkin about doing that on a 451 non-turbo, will lost in performance? And seems not so louder than original, it is? I'm just addicted to BB look but i don't want to make it louder than original one or also drive a slower smart... Thank you for helping btw, really nice job!

@@Eldiablo_FPV You will not loose any performance - if anything you gain performance ! The exhaust is a little louder but more it is a change of tone rather any louder
