A tour of my 2008 Ford Explorer (and its biggest issue yet)

What's up everyone! For months on end now, I have had a few people tell me I should start a KZfaq channel. I put the idea off for a while, but here we are now. I figured I would kick off the channel with a tour of a car... my first car.
I'm going to do my best to try to upload often and my channel will probably end up featuring most things related to cars and the outdoors.
Have anything you'd like to see? Anything you like so far? Ideas for the channel? Let me know.

I got my self a 2007 Ford Explorer sport trac ( truck version) With 164,000 miles And I can’t help myself but smile of how much I can relate to your video and especially the door handles haha

Same here, I have a 2008 Ford Explorer Sport Trac with 201,833 miles currently running good. Hoping I can hit 300k miles maybe. My question is can I install LED headlights without it saying a warning. For some reason when I put in LED bulbs, they work fine but on the little screen in between the speedometer and the RPM there’s a little message that will say check right headlight, check, left headlight. I hate it. I wish there was a way to bypass that but if there’s a certain kind of LED that I have to use. I use LED fog, light bulbs and everything is fine, so I’m not sure what it is with the headlights, or if there is a certain bulb that Ford allows for their system to use.

Good truck , have 2 08 4.0 283k miles only code issue I have is the TPS (tire pressure) 02 V8 230k my ,17 explorer no way it will last as long as the older models

Just a recommendation for privacy purposes, if you try to make more car videos, i would recommend trying to cover up just the License Plates. But if you are not worried too much about privacy, then its really not needed

Hey it's a good car by looks and rides nice until it gives you the problems mainly the problem is from the cars PCM or the computer. I had this car and it gave me problems upon problems, I kept changing every thing until it was found out that the cause was a bad PCM, it is the usual problem with this one, I did not believe the mechanics because I thought they were trying to rip off from me. Someone even told me that the computer must have been stolen and replaced by one of the mechanics because it's a rarity to be found in my region and when this PCM usually gets damaged in this vehicle the mechanics do tend to steal them for the others to get good price. By the way this computer or the PCM is vulnerable due to the damaged wires itself as well because they can shorten it, so keep an eye on the wiring as well before you change the PCM. Until you do not verify and change the PCM you will get a whole lot of codes in the scanner and you may end up changing from one sensor to another sensor without any proper results.

@@R3turnOfTheMack You would get different codes popping up every now and then sometimes they will get ok and the next time they will be bad. Also your car will do a lot of misfiring after 30 minutes of driving, the air conditioning will become hot and sometimes cold making you believe that there is something wrong in the air conditioning itself, so basically your electronics and sensors will go haywire and most importantly the EGR valve will always give you code even though it is fine, I replaced the EGR valve sensor three times and it was still giving code. Nevertheless it has a strong engine because I drove this car with the broken drive chain cassette on the back side of the engine approximately 20-30000 kilometers and then it finally gave up on me but the engine still wasn't damaged somehow which I found out after I got the new chain-cassette replaced. However, replacing chain-cassette is a nightmare because you have to pull out whole of the engine from its bay.

Damn, I wish I had the V8. Mines 2008 Sport Trac a 4.0 V6 cologne engine with AWD. 201,000 miles so far good. I always wanted a sport Trac with the V8. I’m just trying to figure out how I can get LED bulbs that work but also don’t throw a message. Every time I put an LED bulb in there the light itself works good but then I get a message in the middle of the dash saying check, right headlight check left headlight. I don’t know if it’s coded to not use LED or what’s the deal. The fog lights when you change them to LED bulbs. Everything is fine. And it’s weird because when I put the stock headlight bulbs back in those messages are gone I just don’t know how to get through this or if any of you went through it?

The computer system in your car can see how much power is returning through the circuit loop for the headlights. Stock headlights are far less efficient, so they use more power. LED headlights use far less power because of their high efficiency. So the vehicle‘s computer system believes that you have burnt out bulbs when you have LEDs installed for this reason. I just clear the message every time I drive. But you can also install resistors which would prevent this message from coming up.

Bro even though I have the same issues while cruising on the highway suddenly it gets off and n then gets starts after 5 min again off what's the solution for it plz let me know I have Ford explorer 2008

I actually never found out what the issue was, it never did it again. I’d check the PCM and make sure all electronics are plugged in well.

I put leds in mine, they came with warning cancellers that work on low beams but sometimes when I hit my high beams it comes on saying check left high bulb but they still work

It all cracks down to the resistance within the bulb. Halogen bulbs have more resistance which the onboard computer recognizes. So when you have traditional halogens in there, less power comes back through the DC loop and it knows the bulb isn’t burnt out. With LEDs, the bulb uses much less power and runs far more efficiently, therefore, when they are on, the loop will carry back more power due to less resistance and the computer will tell you the bulb is out when it’s not. Some bulbs come with warnings cancellers of sorts. So I would look into those. Or you can always install resistors as well.

Not always guaranteed to be problematic, but often times the transmissions can be finicky in these. They’re on the less reliable side from what I’ve heard.

Still being used today. About 165,000 miles on it. Oddly enough, never had the issue again after recording this video…

Also, the sunroof was leaking (well at least we thought) and after a while of messing with it, it turned out to be the overhead cabin lamp that was leaking.

hmmm. my explorer randomly started blowing the fan full speed, it literally sounded like an 18 wheeler, kinda how yours did in the video, it was overheating then stopped, i still dont know what it is lol

It's probably the thermostat housing, since Ford made them out of plastic, and they're known for cracking over time. Mines is doing the same thing.

I never did figure out why mine does that. I think it may be a weird electrical connection somewhere but I’m not quite sure. Could also be a thermostat issue since it doesn’t do it when I turn it on while the engine is warm

Oh son! You’ve not run into the biggest problems with these SUV’s! The *death rattle* is going to turn your world up side down. You’ll wish you had the trouble you do now. The timing chains probably need to be replaced by now. It’s not something you wait for, It either happens and murders the engine, or you catch it early enough to fork over $3800 for the repair at you local dealership. “Vampires” Now the parts themselves aren’t what gets the high dollar value. About $3-400. It’s the labor!! They gotta break it down to only the engine remains. Yeah! Then the engine has to come out of the vehicle. Now lie!! After you get it out, you have to pull of the gaskets and covers. Then you see the chains. Now on the v6 it’s a little better. But still those chains, sprocket, tensioners and plastic guides gotta be replaced. Oh after that, You have to re-time the engine and put it all back together! It’n that just amazing. I make it a point, to tell anyone with these cars about the horrible design of the blocks. Oh, don’t get me started on the heater cores. Good luck my guy.😂

I’ve heard plenty of horror stories about timing chain failure in these. With the condition it’s in though, it’s not worth fixing if they go. There are too many other issues with it to make an engine overhaul worth it.

Make sure you maintenance is up and they will last. These cars unfortunately do need to have thier fluids change timely unlike others but they can be good and last a long time if you do it right. Also, the chrome and handles were the only thing I dislike.
