A tour of the historic Dallas County Jail, slated for demolition

Take a peek inside the old Dallas County Jail, which is found on the top floors of the Dallas County Records Building on Main Street. While the outside shell will be saved, the inside of the jail will be demolished by January 2017, making way for new county offices.

I worked there as a DSO in the 1980s. It was my favorite place to work. I also worked at Woodlawn and Lew Sterrett. But the Old Jail was my favorite.

It's a part of history. Clyde Barrow and Jack Ruby have resided there. I have been there many times as a lawyer visiting a client. I often thought to myself, "if these walls could talk ..."

Now it's a law school. The cell where Lee Harvey Oswald and Jack Ruby were held has been preserved. I'm a UNTDCOL student - there are rumors that the building is haunted, but it definitely is not.

I walked by there and was pulled back for some reason not knowing it was the old jail. I looked in the windows and I will tell you the place is seriously haunted

I had community service for dallas before the decommissioned levels. I was 22 and saw grow men not walk down dark hallways.

Same. The group I was with was moving in a box truck, we would take stuff to and from the warehouse and when they let us walk thru there it was wild… like you feel the weight when walking around. Plus the main light from the windows was creepy to me.
