The tram depot in Helenówek was closed a long time ago, and it's not coming back. It's being rebuilt to be a track maintenance facility. As you said, expansion plans are still just ideas. They want to connect the two biggest hospitals in Łódź to the network (Centrum Zdrowia Matki Polki and CKD), but they say 2027 at the earliest. I mean, it makes sense to concentrate on the already existing network, which is kinda falling apart in many places lol. There were also talks about renovating the line to Ozorków (the longest tram line in Poland, 2nd in Europe) and Lutomiersk, but unfortunately, due to how things work here the towns and municipalities have to pay for the track that passes through them (so the city of Łódź can't pay for it, even if they wanted to, I think), and they can't afford it. I don't really remember how it went down with applying for EU funds, but I think at the end, Lutomiersk and Ozorków just withdrew their applications. Speaking of suburban lines, with the beginning of July, the line to Konstantynów Łódzki (which is essentially half way to Lutomiersk) reopened, albeit massively shortened on the Łódź end (due to poor track condition on one of the lines that go from this "temporary" terminus, and due to the construction of the city center tunnel on the other line). Speaking of (lol) shortened lines and "temporary" termini. Lines 1, 3, and 5 run on such termini for quite some time now lol (line 3 since 2019), and I feel like it would be nice if you had included the parts of these lines that are just "temporarily" (this word doesn't mean much in Łódź, as you've definitely already noticed) closed, but I can see that finding this information as an outsider would be hard. Another thing you wouldn't notice as an outsider is how mismanaged all those reconstructions are. On the surface, when you just look at how much is being reconstructed, it looks great. However, due to neglect over the last 20-30 years, everything is now being reconstructed at once. Literally half the network is gone (well "temporarily") since like 2019. The best example is the reconstruction of Legionów street, which was delayed multiple times, cause a few tram derailments, is unrideable by bike due to literal gaps in the concrete. Also, they only rebuilt half (1km) of the street (who cares about the other one, right? btw that's the street that caused the line to Konstantynów to be shortened), of which only 600m can be actually used lol (but only 300m is being used right now). The city center tunnel I mentioned before was literally delayed like 10 times already. It was supposed to open in 2021! The latest estimates say 2027 lol. Just recently, they closed the whole line to Teofilów, because it needed a few emergency repairs before the whole renovation in 2025/26. There are 2 loops on the section of track that they're repairing, and yet they decided to close both at the same time to "lessen the impact on riders", instead of, idk CLOSING THE FURTHER ONE FIRST TO LET THE TRAMS RUN AT LEAST PART WAY LIKE ANY SANE PERSON WOULD DO?? They not only cut off the Teofilów neighborhood, but also the whole Bałuty district, and Włókniarzy avenue! Combine all of that with the undying love for cars of Polish people, rundown old building which love to collapse (and many of which don't even have toilets in the flats, only communal ones on the corridor (in TWENTY TWENTY FOUR goddamn it), and you get one of the most unlivable cities in Poland, where the renovations are handled and scheduled by a mad man, where the trams get stuck in traffic, and where rush hour is from 6am-12pm, and 2pm-7pm.

Nice to see you back in Poland. In my adopted home city there has been a lot of modernisation of the tram network too - it’s something happening all over Poland.

@@realdronthego And awesome video again! You only release bangers ;) .If you ever have a chance, look into Vitoria, small city in northern Spain (or Basque Country if you prefer it). I think it's a great example of adequate public transport policies, more so considering the city was mostly built in the 50's and 60's, I believe. Opened two tram lines in less than 20 years, has currently at least one electric BRT line and has an idea to restrict vehicle traffic inside the so-called "Super-blocks" and on the brink of having a regional train network! All of that for a city of 180 000 inhabitants Plus, it's really green, and has almost doubled the cyclists percentages in the last times

Spain is doing well on those regards. I will keep it in mind for spring or autumn trips.

when it comes to (not very) building new routes, the line to Konstantynów Łódzki is currently under reconstruction, closed in 2018 and planned to open somewhere in 2024

The Piotrkowska Centrum stop, due to its colorful roof is often called Stajnia Jednorożców (Unicorns' staple) by locals. There is even a unicorn statue right next to it!

As a resident of Łódź it could've been nice if during the showing the present route plan there're also a diferently colored parts of temporaly closed routes or maybe recently closed ones (such as suburban lines 43b to Lutomiersk (from Północna to Lutomiersk /John Paul 2 square with length of over 19 km's) and 46 to Ozorków, which was the longest tram line in Poland (in it's last route change it ride it from Stoki to ozorków/cegeilniana with length over 30 km's) to give true look at how big network really is/was.

I think there are simply many projects happening at the same time. It is good however that Łódź is trying, and reopening one section after the other now. I’d like to come back in some years and see how it changed.
