Khiva is the most picturesque old city along the Silk Road. The cities old world charm remains after thousands of years. A formidable mud castle wall surrounds the settlement protecting countless heritage sites. There are old palaces, madrassahs, mosques, and minarets, all covered in bright blue tiles that contrast so well against the desert landscape.
