Subaru's Symmetrical All Wheel Drive (SAWD) with drive to all four wheels just means that there is additional traction and grip. In conditions of poor grip, where other cars may fly off the road, the Forester stays on its path. Thus the Subaru Forester is one of the safest cars you can get on the road today.
In addition, the Forester has more than 100 safety features built into it. This is because of Subaru's Safety philosophy.

AWD saved me and my family during the Dec 2021 great flood near bentong. No electricity, no phone and it was nighttime. While moving downhill (Central Spine Road toward KL) we did not realized that the downhill stretch was flooded earlier - although the water had receded, that highway stretch was covered in mud. We did not notice any lost of traction (was driving carefully). However, several other cars in skidded and lost control and got stranded. (Hyundai Santa Fe AWD)

A Subaru owner in Norway was driving at night in the country side when his Subaru equipt with Eye-sight safety system hammered the brake, moment later a moose runned over the road just barely missing the car, the driver never saw the moose until it was right in front of the car, he would have hit it if he had to react himself after seing it.. so yes, Subaru safety system works!

I have been owning an Impreza 2.0 for 2years. Initially, I was contemplating that whether buying a Subaru is a right move. Now, What I can tell you all that Subaru is a good brand that take care of your safety & driving experience. My hometown in Titi, Negeri Sembilan. The road from KL to Titi is full of sharp corners. handling of this car is much better and accurate as compared to my other cars (Vios, HRV & Harrier). Eyesight system likes another pair of eyes taking care of my safety. Its pre-collision alert function has saved me in few occasions. I hav fall in love with my Subaru.

I hope this does not give subaru drivers a false sense of security. Symmetrical 4wd gives good accelerative traction, and probably better balance, but physics cannot bend. Flying down 160kph on the nshw with standing water and poor tyres is still dangerous regardless. No doubt the current Forester is a good handling suv, but its probably due also to the well executed stability systems and good suspension setup.

AWD is a a better handling experience when it comes to snow and rain. When it snowed earlier this year I was so Amazed how my 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe AWD handled the snow. I was able to accelerate onto the highway with confidence up to speeds easily and I started to switch lanes multiple times through the snow while everyone else was creeping and crawling to see how the Htrac AWD would handle snow,. Which it did great 👍🏽

YS.... i enjoy you channel alot ... great job! .......but this time, i have to comment. Have we measured the torque transfer to the wheels under dynamic conditions of an AWD car? we cannot take manufactureres word for it. The correct comparison would have been the Forester with disabled AWD and torque vectoring, not with a car from a different class and era. The boxer engine has low center of gravity.. which means it cannot transfer torque efficienty to the wheels. Alfa Romeo moved the engine way up front for this reason in the Alfasud. Subaru decided to go AWD. In a vehicle all wheels wil be at the same speed when going in a straight line. When the vehicle turns, each wheel will be turning different speeds as the diameter of the turn varies between the wheels. Due to stability, performance and fuel comsumption issues AWD cars reduce drive to the secondary axle to almost zero. As speed goes up, higher yaw will result in lower secondary axle drive. Throttle lift and braking will release the secondaary axle complete, if not the vehicle will loose control. Dont take my word for it, its easy to measure the torque transfer in any car .... do it.
@YSKhongDriving
@YSKhongDriving 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks very much for your comments. However we are not a certified body to do tests as per what you wrote. We only test the car and if it grips, we say it grips. If it doesnt grip it will fly off the road. So we trst to see the difference, if any, between the FWD and AWD. Inder the circumstances, we are not so concerned about how much is the torque transfer, but rather if it is sufficient to provide more traction or not. Each manufacturer has slightly different sustrms, and Subaru have open diff systems with a centre viscous diff. How much slip is allowed is dialled into the centre diff and they combine this all with a brake based torque vectoring system that works better than a LSD. As a car reviewer, we just check the product and dont check manufacturer claims. For example, a maker may claim 150 ho, but we dont go and do a dyno check and then cry that it is only 135, for instance. We just accept, and I am sure they do have bodies that regulate stuff like these. It is not our role. However your points are noted with interest.

Thanks YS for the reply. There is no need to have a laboratory to validate, just a multimeter will be do. The second most costly item most people own is the automobile, it maybe the biggest liability and it could be lethal. Having the consumer best interest in mind, manufuturers could educate and use merit rather than promising to change water to wine, walk on water or have the midas touch. Keep up the fantastic work... you are eyes of the driver.

Even a single passenger crowds what room their is. Just put a cargo box on top. I might just sleep in it haha. Still can't find the switches to use either twin dome light, center front. Straight out from the box, I know this test is to show the obvious difference between a 2WD and a 4WD in term of safety performance. But it is unfair since the weight and the dimension or the class of the test vehicles are largely different. I don't know why you called that puny hatchback city car the same as a SUV because clearly it is not. You need to test it with a similar vehicle in terms of weight & dimension such as the Toyota RAV4 or the Honda CR-V. At least that's pretty close and fair results. Next up we hope to see you comparing the difference between Subaru SAWD with its competitors such as from Toyota's, Honda's, Mazda's, or any car make at a similar class and price range. That would be a good content for the channel.

Every car has a limit. Remember there's still a chance for you to fly off (maybe much lower with Subaru's). Just drive safe during rain don't be too overconfident no matter what car.

Thank you, good observation. That is why we did this test in a controlled environment. This test is not to say you won't fly off the road if you do something stupid, but rather to demonstrate the better roadholding qualities of th Subaru SAWD system.

Never know what is around the next corner. Here we have multi-use highway. Rocks, boulders & trees have all become hitch hikers. Can't ever not use that pay attention. Fortune can try you in a second.

Good observation. The BRZ is an exception because it is a collaboration with Toyota. I was waiting to see who would be the first to being it up. Good job!

In 1966 the Japanese Gov made Nissan aquire Prince and merg with Fuji Heavy, while Toyota bought into Daihatsu and Hino. Subaru inherited manufacturing and tech from Nissan during that period. In 1999 Carlos Ghosn sold the stake to GM now Toyota has it.

Awd is gd but very costly on consumption........ If only to use for rain 4wd better efficient or EV cars also all 4wheel w full HP/torque
@YSKhongDriving

Not really true. Fuel consumption is just a bit more. Maybe we need to do a consumption test.

well there are good reasons why 2WD is a better option in more urbanised cities.. less moving parts in the drivetrain helps with fuel economy
@YSKhongDriving
@YSKhongDriving 4 жыл бұрын
Fuel economy is one factor only. Safety is manifold, and AWD definitely improves road grip. It's up to personal choice.

The other car is a hatchback. Clearly not an SUV. A real 2 wheel drive SUV might do worse.

@@bbqqreen i kinda agree on the nvh, driven H brand SUV, all three B, H and C, the Forrester lacks on the NVH and soundproofing, even the new Forrester need to improve more on soundproofing. However, handling wise and safety features coming from driving dynamics, Subaru is much better, way up there compared to jelly-drive H SUV... imho

@@azmisj yes subaru has a very bad soundproofing, nvh not good at all. Honda crv is design for family, it tackles pothole and bumpy road very well, very comfort car i would say. In paper subaru always promote how superior they are, in real action, really lame.
