I’m Mexican-American, I paid my car insurance, gas, hygiene products, clothes, entertainment and paid my parents $180 a month. This was 10 years ago. I never looked at it as a punishment. I looked at it as contributing to the house. My mom always had home cooked meals after work and it was a blessing

100000% and I was honestly super surprised that you even had a thought like that. Your house standards or presentation hasn’t even crossed my mind. I’ve purely been motivated by your attitude, productivity and ideas on how to be productive as a SAHM with many littles, and your faith! I’m a Christian but not a Mennonite and have to admit I totally have been buying more dresses and less grunge wear because of your channel. You’re inspiring :)

When our kids graduated high school and they were working full time they paid a small amount of rent and we put that money in a savings account and gave it to them when they moved out or got married…but they did not know that so it was just a blessing!

I personally love that you guys live in an older home because it’s real for so many of us. Most KZfaqrs have houses that I know mine doesn’t come close to, it’s late 60s and dated. What keeps me coming back is how relatable your lifestyle and parenting is. You are motivational without displaying an unattainable life.

Children paying rent at a certain age is not a mennonite or amish only thing. The rule for me was if you were not in school, you paid rent. There was no pressure to go to college, just the expectation to be doing something and being productive. So when I graduated high school, I paid rent, incredibly minimal. My parents didn’t need my money, they wanted me to understand real life. I also had to pay for my own car expenses, personal expenses and help out at home. But they were also quick to help out when appropriate when something came up with me or my sisters. It was more about life lessons than a hard fast rule. But I don’t think any of my friends did. I enjoyed this Q&A!

Us ladies need to show some love to our husbands on Valentine’s Day as well. I am so so excited to listen to this video Megan! Also, you and Josh doing a Q&A is NOT cringey! It’s some of my favorite content! (although I respect that he doesn’t always want to be on camera of course)

I love how you sparkle with each other and seem to enjoy one another's company. Realize the years FLY by and being together after all these years is so rewarding. Remember to keep that sparkle between one another and put one another first. I always enjoy watching both of you together! I have been praying for a healthy pregnancy and baby. I enjoyed this a lot. Hearing Josh laugh heartily and seeing you two address marriage candidly is refreshing! I’ve been married 37 years and there is a great deal of wisdom in what you said about marriage and parenting. Those are the two hardest jobs we can have and it is an evolutionary process for both. It takes great humility to be a good parent and/or spouse. ❤

My mom had me pay rent once I graduated so I was 17. We are Christians. The lesson from my single mom was that learning to handle money (I also was paying for my own vehicle). Also to show I didn't need to rush out of the home and start my own life. If I couldn't handle the commitment of her small "rent" what would it be like when I move out for good.

My husband is Catholic Brazilian. It’s cultural that kids work and live at home during and post university until they either get married or move to a different city to work. I like the idea of having kids 20+ pay a nominal amount every month to help with household expenses. Some parents have their kids pay a nominal fee monthly and put it in a savings account for them to move out (pay a down payment, help with wedding, etc.)

Even us Baptists have kids who turn their backs on ‘religion “ at times. Both of our kids left the church for a bit, but both have returned to God. They have to individually get to the point where they acknowledge their need for God in their lives. Give them the foundation and trust Him for the rest of it. Thanks, Josh and Megan. Love your values❤

I love what Josh said about prayer and reading the Bible. Prayer that is uninformed by the Word of God is going to be ineffective for the most part. The Word should direct and inform our prayer. Prayer must be in agreement with God, so knowing His Word is the key. I'm glad to hear Josh is digging into the Bible more.

Our daughter and son in law moved in with us when he developed a medical condition and they needed help. They lived with us for 4 years (they were 25 & 31 when they moved in). We asked that they pay the power bill which they did the whole time they lived with us. They've moved into their own home now, but I had no problem asking them to help out when they were here

Once again your home is beautiful! It truly saddens me to hear you say that your kitchen is “beat up.” I have children your age and I have taught my kids to appreciate what they have and be careful with their words. There may be people watching your channel that have much less than you and a home that is truly “beat up” and dream of having a kitchen as nice as yours. You wouldn’t want someone else to see what they have as less than… I never wanted my kids to hear me say anything negative about their home as if I was ashamed or unhappy. I was always thankful for what I had and when I could afford to make updates and changes then I did but never said anything about it being done because it looked awful, etc.. Our kids are listening to all we say. God has blessed you so much! I am praying for a smooth delivery of your baby!

I had a job starting at age 14. My parents didn't make me get one, I wanted to because I wanted to go to college and I knew my parents couldn't help me. When I graduated highschool I paid my way through college. Between college and getting married (less than a year) I lived at home and paid rent. My parents couldn't help pay for my wedding so I paid for it (it was very simple, dessert reception, but lovely) and for my wedding gift they gave me back the rent I had paid. It was sweet and I really appreciated it. My parents never made me feel like we were poor or anything. They were very good living in a tight budget (my dad is a pastor) and and it prepared me to know how to handle money. My husband and I have never been in debt. We currently rent and are saving to buy. My husband is a pastor and we have 4 kids. I hope my kids can say the same thing that I say about my parents:)

A marriage counselor told my husband and myself to practice this. When you come home after work, which ever one of you work out of home, the first 5-10 minutes are for mom and dad. Be deliberate about being face to face and reconnect- share things about your day. It is very easy once the littles arrive, to greet them first and be busy with them. But it is actually very healthy for the children to see momma and daddy prioritize each other, before moving on to them. I know this is long, but had a tremendous impact on our family so wanted to share.

1) I’m here for your personality. The first video I watch was my curiosity about your Mennonite beliefs. You…your personality, temperament, sweetness, etc… is why I stayed. I enjoy watching info about what you’re doing to your house or whatever but it’s because I already like you as to why I watch. If I didn’t care for you and your personality I wouldn’t care to hear about your house and life either. I’ve learned from my personal experience at watching videos that when I really click with the person and find them interesting, I stick around for the long haul. I can imagine sitting in your sunroom with you and chatting it up. That’s why I stick around. 2) Your husband is so lovely. I hope to marry someone similar to his temperament and simplicity. The way he says what he feels and thinks and isn’t complicated is so great. 😊 And “I just want to provide a house my wife loves to live in”!!!! Oh my heart! So so sweet. If I was your sister or mom, I would be so grateful that God have you such a beautiful man. 🥰 I’m not related to you and I’m so happy you have him. 😁

We live in South Africa, isn't Mennonite and my parents told us from a young age: when we start earning money from working and live with then, we are going to pay them 10% of our monthly income. I think it is good to let the children contribute to the expenses when they have a job and still live at home. And then obviously they also need to help with cleaning and keeping the house neat and clean.

Loved your video! You both get along so well that I think you should write a parenting book and marriage book. I loved how supportive Josh is of your KZfaq channel. How willing he is to step in and help out with the kids, is priceless. Also, Josh was right about people not watching your channel for your house, although I would trade homes with you in a heartbeat! I started watching you because I didn't know anything about Mennonites and was interested to learn. I love the way you focus on the important things in life like family, taking care of the home and just making the job of being a mom wonderful. You lift my spirits in every video and remind me that what I do as a mom every day is the most important job in the world. Thank you for creating your channel to help other moms find their worth in the world! I'm so excited for your next video about the new baby!

This is my third comment on this video 😂 but I’d like to say I also had been feeling I wasn’t close to God anymore even though I was still praying and reading the Bible (a chapter here and there) In October I decided to pray more, read my Bible more (I got a beautiful new Bible , micron pens and highlighters to get excited about) and every day on way home I stop by at my church for 15-20 minutes. I started praying all through the day while at work (infant teacher) and I have such a new love for God! I cannot wait to get off of work and open my new Bible!

I grew up with a parent who demanded we support her when we became old enough to get jobs. My husband, and I, did not charge our kids "room and board" until they graduated college and had full time jobs. While in school they needed to concentrate on school, not supporting parents. We taught them that if they wanted something that was a "want" and not a "need" they had to earn the money for it and pay for it themselves. Megan, nothing wrong with "screen time". If the kids want to cuddle with Josh while watching a hockey game that is ok. They are having quality time. No need to structure their time so strictly that they have no down time. It is necessary to be able to learn to control their own time. My husband, and I, also did not allow the kids to sleep in our bed. I agree, the parents room is not communal space. I love your house and have loved seeing the updates you have done over the past few years. Don't worry about what people say about spending money, it is none of their business. You work hard for your money, spend it.

I'm 25 almost 26. One way I help out without paying rent is helping run my family's business. Although, it's NOT because I'm against paying my family rent. It's because most of my "rent" money funds go towards medical bills and such. But I agree, children should help

Jerry and I are both the oldest sibling. We have been married 53 years. The hardest years are when you are young married couple raising a family. Stay strong and keep the conversation flowing and always put God first❣️✝️🙏🏻

Yes, when I switched from my business phone over to personal it took years and they finally just said to leave it a business phone and use it as a personal one. I'm thinking it could go back to multi - generations living together and everyone contributing to all the bills again. Housing is so much! We've been told here in Utah anyways that if you haven't bought a house yet then it can't be done. It can only happen if you have equity already.

Great date night idea! You guys should do a date night off of camera like this again and try to enjoy calmness. You guys could try the adventure challenge couples addition if your looking for more dates to do together. Hockey games on tv are fun! You can make nachos and really get into it. It's good for your boys to know about sports and if you can get your girl into sports too it will be apprciated by her future husband one day! I feel like it's very easy to get stuck in survival mode and checking off lists but there is no real rush. We put such pressure on ourselves by striving for perfection. This day and age it's almost impossible not to compare ourselves to others, but it's so important to try not to and to live life at a slower pace. It's not a race. I do not watch you for the way your house looks, just so you know. I love your authentic self. I can appreciate all the planning and effort that you guys have collectively put into it and the nice esthetic, but it could be so much worse. I bought an older house and from the 50s and there has been so much non esthetic work that we've had to put into it ie, boiler, lighting, ac, insulation, windows and the list goes on and on. I've barely touched the esthetic work in our house and we've lived here 6 years now, so if anyone knows your frustration of looking at something thats not the way you like it to be it's me and I understand your husband and how annoying it is to always have the jobs lingering over head, and a lot of the time we make it into a bigger job when its something new to us, or something we have put off for a while and it can be alot overcoming those hurdels. I think you and your husband have such a beautiful relationship. I think you've caught a really great guy who communicates very well with you and who seems like a simple man to please. Don't sweat the small stuff. It doesnt matter where you are. All that matters is that your together. You guys also go on alot of vacations and get opportunity to explore city life. It's not all that it's cracked up to be. The grass isn't always greener on the other side. Raising a family in the city comes with lots of dangers and a harder way of life. Share your apple juice!! I think he probably already gave you boy cooties. Lol I'm excited for your family and your newest little one.

What a lovely vlog, my husband had his own business as carpenter and home maintenance and I consider myself very blessed for all the work he did in house to make it a home for us all. He’s 77 and not in good health anymore but we have a beautiful home. I did laugh when you said carpenter or mechanic both our boys went down that route also our son in law so we don’t have to worry about my car either and one of then can do anything computer wise so we are well looked after. You and Josh are so loving to each other and no it shouldn’t go away I still love my husband very much, I have a saying from my husband to Josh “happy wife, happy life” yes there will always be heated discussion but that’s fine, in my opinion you are a beautiful couple with good morels, you believe in God and are wonderful parents. Our children no longer go to church, we are Catholics and feel that we have given them a good start in life and I pray that one day they will return to church and yes you are so right social media has so much to answer for we never had the same problems with our children as they do with theirs. Still praying for a safe delivery for you and your little boy. Every time you post I keep thinking have you had baby yet. And going back to paying rent ours just paid £20 a week but that was over 25 years ago 😂 xxxxxx
