It's definitely possible to be introverted and not shy! I am a very opinionated/self expressive introvert and while most people don't call me "shy" these days, in the past many people did try to tag me as being shy. When in reality I am just a naturally quiet person who will speak her mind when she has something of worth to say to you haha Lovely video as always! ❤️❤️🙏

I am an RN and just found out that our hospital will recycle most non contaminated recyclables (sterile water containers, the plastic that kits come in etc.). It took a little digging and encouragement but I'm happy to know that less stuff is going into the landfill. I don't think our hospital advertises this because it is not profitable for them to recycle. @@JanellKristina

I'm a nurse from the 70s. We autoclaved a lot of our own instruments while I was in school. By the time I graduated, that seemed to have passed and disposable everything was in. We never did reuse needles like they did in the very old days. Just like sterile bandage kits, suture removal trays etc. It's too bad, like in ERs they don't do what they still do in ORs I think. (I've been out for a while. I did get a shot once from a reused autoclaved (no longer sharp) needle with like a Barb on the end. Hurt like hell! Never go back to that clearly! It just didn't all used to be disposable. We would have a large vial of Demerol and use the entire thing. (Rather than one dose ampules which we eventually had as well. Minimalism in medicine is a good topic!)

Yeah, it's a really good conversation! I know there are people working hard in the UK to reduce waste in the NHS. I think that's being driven by a lack of funds as much as other things but it's a net gain at least.

I am very distant with my parents, and sometimes I feel bad. However, I do think about all the times they have been toxic. My parents always insult me by calling me dumb and other similar things. They judge me bc of my significant partner not being "handsome enough" which makes me sad that they think that bc my partner and I have a really wonderful relationship. They only treat me as an adult when it comes to financial stuff (them wanting to use my money) but when it comes to having freedom (like going out) i'm just a child and not old enough. (I'm almost 22). i can go on and on.

acm definitely!! After starting to thrift a couple years ago, my mind can’t seem to comprehend why anyone would want to spend hundreds of dollars on purses, shoes and clothes when you can get the same thing at the thrift store! A tip to remember for me is that A lot of the time I get complements on what I’m wearing and never has anyone knew it came from the thrift store!! Haha
@meretriciousinsolent

I struggle to get leggings at thrift stores, but I have had some good ones from ebay - and some not so good. From the same shop too. We have some charity shops here that often sell things for £1. We also have a decline in high Street shops and a rise in charity shops which is often a sign of a less well off area, but I think the idea that they are a bad thing really shows how we expect to be able to buy new when we don't need to.

Great video...thanks and congrats! I married my high school sweetheart 20 years ago. People assume we have the "perfect" marraige because we've never split and they still remember us as lovesick teenagers. The reality is we have constantly had ups and downs since the very beginning and have worked really hard to remain committed. Even now, we're working on making our marraige better and realigning our expectations. We are given so much misinformation through TV/movies, social media highlight reels, and even well-meaning people in our lives...the key is recognizing that fact and working diligently to make your own way in the real world! Oh, and being a mom is a joy (and a challenge) that simply cannot be explained. I struggled to have my only child, and I thrive on motherhood. I guess it's not for everyone, but if you have a healthy mix of desire, wonderment, and fear...I can attest becoming a mother gives you a kind of superpower that overcomes some of those fears in an instant (and maybe brings another set of fears you never imagined). And your childhood doesn't have to dictate your own parenting...definitely not in a bad way. My parents were not bad at all, but they were VERY different from how I am as a mom. I wonder sometimes why my mom didn't open up the world to me more or pass along more of her wisdom as a woman that was once a girl. She died before I got married so I can only wonder. But know you will make your own way...especially a deep thinker like you that is more attuned to your place and impact on the world. May you be blessed!

Hey! :) One way my mother (an RN) has thought to reduce waste at work is to make sure that the patient knows that all of the disposable plastic items, buckets, bandage wraps, and tapes are PAID FOR items which belong to them and which will be thrown away if they don't choose to take them home. She said that some people take what they think they will need, and some people just take everything they can because they feel like they should, since it's paid for. That also seems like a good thing for the patient to know, and many people definitely aren't aware that they can take many of those things home.

Another thing about nursing that is wasteful is the water. It’s probably not bad in he ER but after educating myself about how little fresh water the Earth has left it give me anxiety on the med surg floor. My patients who don’t drink water are always requesting more ice for their water and the other nurses are always dumping out their fresh water and refilling it with “fresh” ice water. Thanks for your minimalist nursing input ✌🏻 I feel you girl

Being thrown out of my home and worried about making the wrong choices like it's a life sentence, or this path where you can only go down one fork and there'll never be a do over if you take a wrong turn, you'll be on the wrong path for the rest of my life. When I was 13-14 years old I thought it wasn't something I'd want but "maybe someday" and seriously by 16 years old I knew I would never want that and never have (now 42). Happily married and very stable in my life and the last thing I'd ever want is a child. I think it's fine to decide either way but I hate when people feel pressured into it. I love the way Janell phrases it, not so much "do you want kids?" as "Do you want to become a mother and everything that goes with it?" Some people do. Some do not.

For the vegan question, that was the most refreshing answer I've heard from a "non-vegan". I truly did not expect that, I feel like you get it. That's really what it is, doing the best you can with what you have even when it's hard because it doesn't line up with your morals. I've tried to be vegan on and off for 11 years before i found my rhythm, my community, and Black veganism. I'm just trying to do better in every way I can do better, that's all, and the journey is a forever journey for me. I relate to feeling like something like that is a daunting task to take on. I watched a few of your videos before and I loved your personality but that answer sealed it for me honestly, as wimpy as that sounds... I don't subscribe to too many people out here but you bet I hit that subscribe button. You seem very genuine and wanting to do your best in all the ways you can, which is something I admire in others and something I try to foster more in myself all the time ☆

You remind me of the character of Meredith Grey from Grey’s Anatomy, down to the unhealthy relationships and being attracted to “dark & twisty” things lol also what day is your bday? I’m turning 25 in Feb too! So happy for you hitting so many subscribers! Been following since your tumblr days lol, & I’ve always really enjoyed your deep posts and videos! Hope your channel continues to reach more & grow! 🤗

Thank you for being so transparent. I love the part where you're honest about not being vegan yet, but you won't promote a non-vegan diet or fast fashion. I'm vegan myself and I'm understanding of people who aren't completely vegan or "cruelty free" yet (I was in that same position too and it takes time). However, it frustrates me so much when people know better and still choose to promote non-ethical brands or show everyone how delicious the dead animals on their plate are 😩

I really like the way you think about life and stuff... but most importantly about marriage, cuz I feel the same way in this matter. You really don't have to get married just because of fear of loneliness... And some people think by getting married will make them happy and this is completely wrong, cuz if you're unhappy alone you'll definitely be the same with another person beside you and probably make them unhappy too. And that's just baaad... Sorry for the dark, gloomy comm 😛😁 I really like your videos!! You are awesome Janelle and the way you think is amazing!! I wish you a great time in your trip to India!! 😘😘😘 xoxo

You’re amazing ♥️♥️ My career is organizing for other people and coaching them to be minimalist. I envision you having an online course, e-book and taking clients to make income around these topics you’re passionate about in a passive income style. On top of your nursing career!

Hi!! So glad you are posting videos regularly again 💜 thanks for sharing with us how freaking amazing you are. I can relate to connecting to those in the most real moments (like what you shared in the ER). It’s being in the present moment and it is so humbling. We are all human.... it is honorable to work with others when they are at their most vulnerable. Btw - that color is so beautiful on you

I loove your explanation to being able to be involved in a "toxic" situation while being a healthy force to it and yourself. That deep sense of awareness makes living intentionally, even with our scars and fuckups much easier to accept as part of ourselves.

your explanation of why you started nursing really hit home for me. i definitely understand being drawn to negative and painful situations, and working emergency is an amazing idea for that.

Thanks for the video and your general content :) One thing I really like about your videos is how you are chill and calm. I feel like so many youtubers are so obnoxiously hyper enthusiastic (like: "HEEEEEYYYYYY GUUUUUUYYYYS!!!!! Welcome to my CHaaaannnnnnelll!"). To each their own, but that style just really grates on me, and I appreciate that you are just normal and chill. Keep it up, Janell.
