Roger was the bond i grew up with and this was his last outing as bond and we went to the theater especially for that reason to watch his swan song as bond- it’s nostalgic for me now and i remember feeling sad about it at the time and had a hard time watching timothy dalton though he eventually grew on me - i was a big duran duran girl so this one i think has one of the best bond themes
@slyjokerg4 жыл бұрын
I agree with your take. I think the "best Bond" argument pretty much amounts to who/what you grew up with determining your favorite. The scene I picture when I think of Moore as 007 is the "climbing up the side of the cliff" scene in For Your Eyes Only. Side note: To my knowledge/recollection, (naked) Sheena Easton is still the only Bond title theme song singer to appear singing the song in For Your Eyes Only.

The part of the score that plays when the guy discovers him and starts shooting, and then again when the helicopter appears at the bottom of the hill, is very good. For those that love to complain about Roger Moore's age in this film I point out to observe Sean Connery in 1983's unofficial Bond movie Never Say Never Again and tell me who actually looks older. People think Roger Moore was too old for the Bond girls in this movie but imagine Sean Connery making out with the chick in the iceberg and then get back to me. Need I point out that Moore is three years OLDER than Connery. Roger Moore still aged far more gracefully than Connery.

Hard to believe that Moore was in his later 50's when he made this final outing. He looked considerable younger. Funny, when you think he left the role because he felt he was getting "too long in the tooth" as I heard him say in a TV interview years ago.
@misscauliflowergreen99046 жыл бұрын
Equalizer. I agree. Comparisons: Sylvester Stallone as Rocky Balboa aged 60 - going up for the heavyweight title against the world champion. He looked old, punchy and every bit his age. Sylvester Stallone as John Rambo aged 62 - going on a one-man war against a whole division of baddies in Burma. He looked like a drugged wreck and a drifter. Arnold Schwarzenegger as the Terminator aged 56 - they apparently design old-looking killer cyborgs in the future. He'll certainly blend in since that's what the Terminator infiltrator units are designed for.... not. Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones aged 64. He can beat up monster sized Russian baddies in a fist-fight. A retired college professor in his 60's? Roger Moore as James Bond in A view to a Kill? Perfectly believable compared to the above mentioned. Looked younger than his age too whereas those above certainly looked their age and older. Liam Neeson is still kicking people's behinds in his 60's and people love him.
@trueblue62015 жыл бұрын
@@misscauliflowergreen9904 There are some reasons for that. A View To A Kill was older then all the other ones you compared it too. There is different audience now who feel nostalgic towards former action stars. As well the difference is rocky, rambo, the terminator, John McClane and most Liam Neeson characters are not overtly sexual. With James Bond sex appeal is part of the required package not just on the Bond girls part. Undeniably Roger Moore is the most charming and likeable of the James Bonds and unlike Connery in my opinion despite both of them having rather lackluster final films Moore was still putting in the effort and being charming unlike Connery. The issue with a View to a Kill is that Moore was 58 and sleeping with women who were young enough to be his children. That is what makes this film more uncomfortable due to the age difference. I recall hearing that Moore also felt that way when he met tanya robert's (stacy sutton) mother and she was younger then him. Even is it was a success critically I suspect Moore would still have retired from the role.
@scottknode8985 жыл бұрын
Robert McElwaine he was 57 in 1984 when filmed A View To A Kill and turned 58 when during the time it premiered in 1985. Moore announced his official retirement as Bond in 1986 when Dalton took over after Pierce Brosnan had to turn down the role for The Living Daylights as he couldn’t get out of his contract for his tv show.

@MagicKirin1 over time there has been a general following for OHMSS. People look at that Bond film more favourably and Lazenby performance. I think if did not have that dumb agent who advised him against signing that seven film contract to play 007. Then we would have seen an improvement in his performance. After all Sean Connery performance in Diamonds are forever was quite average. Apart from the part before the credits. Although Lazenby would have done it better

This was the first Bond film (and only one) that I saw at a drive-in theater with my parents, and wondered as a kid what Bond would do with the lady over 5 days traveling to Alaska. Lol.

Back when the stunts and FX were real. No CGI. I miss this stuff.

This was Roger Moore's last film as Bond. John Barry's score was always good and essential to a bond film. you have to admit the film was good send off for the actor.

Believe it or not, they wanted him for another Bond film.

byront Moore had originally planned to retire after For Your Eyes Only but decided to come back for Octopussy and then to do A View To A Kill but later wished he hadn’t as he considered it the worst Bond film he had done due to his age which he brought that up as knew he was too old to share scenes with the younger Bond girls as said there mothers were younger then him. He genuinely disliked the violence in film and couldn’t stand working with Grace Jones. He felt he had no chemistry with Tanya Roberts.

@@scottknode898 Interesting. Well Octopussy is an underrated Bond film. It's better than the critics state. Even though the plot was not that good, there was lots of action and suspense. A View to A Kill wasn't as good but is certainly not the worst Bond film of all time, which is on someone's list.

@@alfredvalrie5541 Well Tom Cruise is too old for Top Gun 2 then? He's the same age as Roger Moore when he was in AVTAK.
