One of the methods China is using as part of its crackdown on video game use is a rehab center for kids who are addicted to gaming. Ramy Inocencio reports.
Each weekday morning, "CBS This Morning" co-hosts Gayle King, Anthony Mason and Tony Dokoupil deliver two hours of original reporting, breaking news and top-level newsmaker interviews in an engaging and informative format that challenges the norm in network morning news programs.

I think gaming is good but yes 8-9 hrs a day is kind of crazy. I think the 3 hrs a week is a bit harsh. Some weeks I play 3 hrs others I play 10. Honestly the government shouldn’t be controlling this stuff parents should.

I despise china. But I think this solution is the only way to get more kids intrested in STEM. Now the future will belong to China... they will have more of an edge where it really matters, while western countries will have influencers and gamers.

@@starsfalldown1234567 did they tell you that the new 3 hours restriction is only for online games (especially mobile)? It's meant to limit kids under 18 from swiping their parents credit cards on microtransactions. This does nothing to stop kids from playing single-player games.

@@KimYoungLeeZ multiplayer games are the worse and the most addictive, speaking from experience, I was once addicted to games like league of legends and rainbow six siege which basically stole 4 years of my life from me(I'm 22 now), everyday I would wake up and literally just game for an entire day, I flunk all my classes and got expelled. I got my life back on track after one year of tough love(my parents finally kicked me out and cut off financial support), I'm now back in college and working really hard, my point is online games especially competitive ones are seriously dangerous and should be treated like addictive drugs. I fully support the Chinese government's restriction in those games, and there's no concern of cultural banning since online competitive games are not media of culture(in their design), unlike single player games, which are basically interactive movies.

American and the rest of the world will need to enact policies to combat this serious problem. Kids are wasting hours and hours each day gaming. China's policy might be a bit too strict but policy is needed. Too many kids are doing and it's become a herd mentally.

Notice this only applies to online games, which probably have the worst influence on kids. They encourage endless spending, and many lack a pause option which annoys parents when they ask their kids to do chores. Its also where kids learn the values of swatting, doxxing, and calling people who beat you cheaters

I agree that this is a drastic measure for the government to step in but it’s for their best interests. I don’t even know how the US would try to implement something like this, but maybe it would do good for all of us to detach for a little bit and just focus on what matters. Chinas doing it, they’re gonna try to strengthen up now that they’re getting people off of the games, we need to watch out, they’re getting tighter and stricter while we’re just getting dumber and lazier.

I don't think this is purely because they are video games, but the way certain video games are designed. I find RPG/MMO-like games to be the most addicting. They are designed to take as many hours from you. There are so many games, especially now that require you to grind and play a long time just to get to any interesting content. I don't find more casual and shorter scope games as addicting and leave me much more satisfied. Stuff like Ratchet and Clank A Rift apart, Psychonauts, SackBoy Adventure, or 12 Minutes doesn't require as much time from you and investment. You can easily play those in hour increments and still progress pretty far. Tabletop board games are great too in that you can easily play in 15-60 minute increments. Also VR is hard to spend over two hours in and it a lot more satisfying because you are moving your whole body.

idk, my lil cousin is Chinese and he has a drinking and cigarette problem, he is 13 and can drink a grown man under the table. they are banning video games, but a lil kid can buy cigs and beer at any convenience store in china. the only time i saw anyone check ID was at the airport or when you enter a gambling facility like a lottery office or casino. so they ban video games, what will the kids be doing, most likely committing crimes like the youth in America, not every child is committed to their studies... i guess they will go to karoke bars and play drinking games like in the past before videogames and smartphones became the norm.

Parents would drive the kid to a place and not tell them and the people would drag those kids out and make them stay at the facilities for months to curb their gaming addictions. Parents don’t live there with the kids. The US has game rehab centers but not nearly as bad and forceful.

Yea, but you live in the states. Different culture makes different people just like different trees grow in different climates. You can't really judge a completely different society or culture based on your own perspective. China has 3 times more population than the US, which means average people in China have much fewer resources than the people in the US. Hence, less attention can be focused on kids with video game addictions. Without enough resources to guide these kids out of the addiction, what do you think they will eventually become? That's right, thieves, scammers, people who create troubles for society. So either the Chinese government deals with this problem now when they still have control, or ignore this issue because of so-called "personal freedom", what do you think they will choose?

@@supresso8313 If you are addicted to video games, do you think your parents will put a computer at home? So then will do those kids go to? Internet cafe. But those cafes cost money, kids usually don't have enough money to support their addiction in cafes, so they steal; first from their parents' pocket, then strangers. I was one of those kids who were addicted. I was addicted to dota, and was "borrowing" money from my classmates and friends because I didn't have enough money to support me playing in the internet cafe. Luckily, I wasn't stealing or scamming, but some of my friends did.
