Danu's Irish Herb Garden

6 күн бұрын

The medieval city of York is in the north east of England and has an amazing history. I love history and I also love to check the green spaces in the cities that I visit.
If you would like to know more about Danu's Irish Herb Garden please visit the website - www.danusirishherbgarden.com/. Here you can find out about my herbal medicine courses - www.danusirishherbgarden.com/... and my new course, "Finding a Plant Ally and Making a Flower Essence" is available now. Another new course, Herbal Health for Women is coming very soon! I also offer the Wise Woman Way training which is a transpersonal course that facilitates healing by working with the Irish goddesses and with plant allies using shamanic and druidic techniques. Find out more here - www.danusirishherbgarden.com/...
My books, The Weed Handbooks are available from the shop along with cards and flower essences - www.danusirishherbgarden.com/...
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Thanks to Lol for music and editing. Lol is on youtube too - / @lolhardiman5247 and he also has a website if you would like to listen to more of his music - lolhardimanmusic.com/
Hope you have a wonderful week. Next week I will be at the Yoga picnic, if you haven't got a ticket already here is a link with some discount

I have an ancestral cousin, a priest, who served at Yorkminster, and there is a brass plate on the minster walls stating he was buried there. With one doing English genealogies, it was interesting to find out that various city surnames were given to the royal courtiers running the royal HQs for those regions. So if you come up with a person having a royal city HQs name, you have a royal courtier in the ancestry: York (Michael York, actor), Kimpton HERTS (Kemptons and Kimptons of England and Scotland), London (Julie London, actress), and Windsor (castle, not the current German Hanoverian Saxe-Coburg Gotha Georgian Windsors).

Anne and I live 30 miles form York, we get the train there 10 - 15 times a year. Retirement gives you lot's of playtime. We rent a house at the top of Gilligate, (pronounce it as Jillygate) one minutes walk from Botham Bar. The house is decorated (inside) in the William Morris style. The City Wall is at the back of our house, the Minster is just behind that. We always go to the York Early Music festival at Christmas, when York is at it's most magical. I'm very proud to say that when I was in a Medieval Ensemble, I did a lot of gigs and medieval banquets in the Merchant Adventures Hall in York, all in period costume. Due to health Issues, We've not been to York for many months. We have both recovered in time for the Summer Early music festival. It was so lovely watching this video of all our special and favourite places. Thank you, it was a treat. ❤❤

Thank you Terri for another lovely video. My husband is from Sunderland, his parents have both passed away now, but when our daughters were young we used to visit them every summer. We visited York a few times, it truly is a gorgeous place steeped with history. I love visiting stone circles etc but my second great love of history is the Vikings, and the Jorvik centre is brilliant. Did you know that the famous Dick Turpin is buried in a small graveyard in York, we visited his grave once, and his cell. The Black Swan that we had our lunch in, displayed his body in the window after they hung him!, apparently wealthy travellers were still wary of travelling the route from York to London so they displayed his body to prove he was dead. Xx

The Jorvik Centre is brilliant - so much knowledge held by the staff. I knew about Dick Turpin's connection to York but was disappointed to find out that he was an actual thug and not really a romantic highwayman. But who knows for sure??? xx

Hello Terri, a very interesting video thank you. I enjoyed visiting York my maternal ancestral home area. My family history traces back as far as Medieval Briton, some Viking ancestry too. As most families in Britain, I agree with you, buildings built and made to last, a skilled job keeping up with the renovations. I like the smaller church St Michaels in the square, it has a hushed tone to it in the peace and quiet after the bustle of The Shambles, the energy is calming. I enjoy the Viking history and the various reenactment groups, here in the Northwest. Chester 20 minutes away by train is another ancient city that has seen its fair share of battles and religious warfare. Thankfully we aren't condemned or fined for our preferences in that regard, we owe a lot to our ancestors. Once again glad you both had a great trip and worthwhile event that you attended. Hugs and Blessings to you both.💚🌹

The generational craftsmanship would be amazing way of life and skills seen very little in this country. Had to watch x 2 to just listen and look! Again, this country no comparison to Ireland or Eu. with history. That was very enjoyable Terry & Lol, thank you! 😊❤

If you enjoy the notion of the generations of craftsmen you might like the novel "Cathedral" by Ken Follet. Full of history, goes through the time it takes to build a cathedral. xx

Great tour and I love York! There may be older cities in England and it may just be me but no other place in England to me has the tangible feel of ancient history, of the spirits of the ancestors as York has - almost like a portal or spot where the veil is thinner.
@DanusIrishHerbGarden
@DanusIrishHerbGarden 5 күн бұрын
It is a special place, AND, I discovered, the Mother Goddess was extensively worshipped there in the past. Statues and images of a mother goddess were the most common artefacts found. Lots of premises boast a ghost and English TV did an article years and years ago - when some work men were digging the road up, to lay gas pipes or something, lots of them saw Roman centurions. I think it is definitely a place where the veil is thinner - it has that timeless quality. Have a great week Mike xx
