I can't imagine how horrific it must have been fighting and trying to survive in those conditions. I have the utmost respect for Vietnam veterans. I salute all of you. RIP to all that were lost.

I went to hamburger hill in may 1996 Vietnam had just started opening its doors to foreigners ,there was still lots of relics from the war and the thing i noticed the most at hamburger hill was the peacefulness,i think it was so amplified because of what had gone on 27 years earlier ,The U S, MIA unit had been digging there recently,you could see all the trenches they had dug looking for there MIA,s . Good bless all who fought and died on that lonely hill in the A shau valley Vietnam.

Imagine a veteran of this battle stumbling across this video. I assume they wouldn't care to revisit on the computer screen but what a nightmare to see the terrain again.

I visited this site in April 2023 with a tour guide and one of the local militiamen. The monument you see in this video is at Hill 900. From this monument it's a short hike (~500 meters my guesstimate) over to Hill 937. From Hill 937 you take another trail to reach a spot which was the Command Post site for Delta Company 3/187th. Between the Delta Company site and Hill 937 we found a dinner plate sized piece of helicopter fuselage. There were several bomb craters on the hill. The whole area is really thick with elephant grass, bamboo, and trees. From the bottom of the stairs (where you park the car) up to Hill 900 then over to Hill 937 then to the Company D CP site and back all the way to the car was a 3 hour hike. It's not for anyone out of shape, for sure. Of course, we had no heavy loads, no rain, no mud, and no unfriendlies along the way and it was still lots of "cardio" for the three of us. The UXO along the trail has been cleared, but it is still dangerous to go off any of the trails.

Rip to all of our American soldiers who we lost ro this senseless war we had no business getting involved with .

The US military didn't keep Hamburger Hill because their intention was to draw the NVA out, so the artillery and air power could be used to kill them in large numbers. The strategy was, always FIND. FIX and DESTROY. Our troops were just bait in a large chess game.

Nice to be able to revisit historical battles that have made history, we can all learn from the past.

Sadly a worthless war...so many lives lost...for nothing! RIP to all who served.

During the fighting that place was bare and looked like a moon scape. It’s amazing how the jungle reclaim’s itself. It’s all grown bad now.

Strange to see that group photo of all the guys being one unit, and their country divided AF, and no support when they got home.

Looks much different than when I was there. To make the experience more exciting, they need some "bad guys" firing blank rounds at you as you near the top.

They take the hill just to leave it and then in the end we just walk away from it all just like in Afghanistan. What a waste! Thank you for showing us this.

That wood is so damn dense.

The big difference is that with all of the bombing and napalm thrown, there was mostly mud and splintered wood. The soldiers would climb the hill by digging their heels in the mud to push themselves up. If they lost all of their footing, they would slide down helplessly while exposing themselves to hostile fire.

Gosh that had to be so scary , just the sounds and thickness of that jungle is just terrifying !

Listen to the sound of that jungle.. that must be so triggering to Vietnam vets. That’s all they heard all day long.

When I was off the road which was through a jungle in Lam Dong, some soldiers appeared and told me to go, because there are some endangered trees that need special protection, I looked up and that's true; Have not been stopped by any case of security problem, onced I accidentally drived into a military area where they running back and forth, like PE, and just drived out. I'm curious to know if foreigners got further problems, if any.

when you attack a position you are not laying mines mines are a defensive weapon so if there are any mines they were put there by the defenders ie: The NVA so the US is paying to demine the enemies ordnance lol

Wonder what they were teaching in US military academies? Going back 26 centuries, Sun Tzu, Art of War, “When the enemy occupies high ground, do not confront him. If he attacks downhill. do not oppose him.” . Sad that US boys paid the price for US military commanders consistently outmaneuvered and outwitted by the NVA .
