Digital transfer of my 1998 8mm video recording made while walking around the Disney property shortly after Lillian Disney passed away. It was my first visit and the first time seeing the barn that would soon be moved to Griffith park. It's shaky, raw and unprofessional, but hopefully interesting. It is definitely one thing, rare; nobody has seen this video in 20 years. I only recently opened my video vault (shoebox) to digitally transfer this stuff.

I truly wish the Disney Company purchased the property so that I could have been a museum, maybe they could have rebuilt the railway line. Instead it was demolished to build a mega mansion. Such a shame and such a loss. But thank you for such a lovely video and a last look at a legend that was Walt Disney.

First of all, THANK YOU for filming this. We often see things that we think will be there forever, then next year they're gone. Also, what a treat to see a house that's ( I assume ) pretty much as Lillian kept it. You probably saw things just about the same as when Walt left it. Great job on showing the paths, tunnels and the narration to let us know when you were on a former set of tracks.

Excellent! This is truly mind blowing video! How great is this since the rail road's been bulldozed! And the home was razed. I am absolutely ecstatic that you posted this. What a gem!

Why wasn’t this significantly special historical house preserved? It seems to me this house was sold right after Mrs. Lillian Marie Disney passed, what a shame. The Disney family should have kept this house, then passed it down for generations to come. I’m sure if they left the train setup as is, the The Carolwood Society would have loved to have Walt’s train in it’s original setting? What an attraction it would have made. Thanks for the video

Wow!!! I never knew this video existed! Going through the tour of the other Home video and researching history it was mentioned that the last Home Walt Disney owned was demolished….Compared to both places ….The first Home was more nostalgic and this one was dated for that period of time ….But the property and garden was beyond amazing ….I can’t believe they destroyed it 😪.. One day I’m going to go to the Walt Disney museum in San Francisco 🥰

I truly wish this was still there for all to enjoy!! I wish the railroad had survived as well, would have loved to have seen it since Walt’s love for trains had sparked the same love for my son and I. My son and I are in the same gauge hobby! I understand today that only the tunnel portal survives, since the entire property was completely redone and a mansion put on it. Very sad, I truly wish it could have been saved. Thank you so much for sharing this rare opportunity

It's a shame that all of that property was demolished a year later by the new owner. I'll bet the inside was as amazing as the gardens.

Thank you for this video! I got to meet your dad, Michael at an Unmeeting in WDW a few years ago and ride the Roger Broggie train with him. It was a real thrill to chat and talk to him about his ride in the car with Walt to Disneyland while it was being constructed. I have a plaque with a roof shingle from the original barn, apparently they weren’t fire proof and had to be replaced, along with an Accucraft Lilly Belle, both of which are cherished items.

Steve, Thank you for sharing this. I thought I seen every view from years ago having to do with the CPRR. Always wondered what happened to the bridges and tunnel. They were still there after all those years. Oh how I wished I could have walked on the same ground that Walt did. Hope to see more of anything you do in the future. I have your Dads book and that is the best book I have ever seen. It was so well done. Again, Thank you and stay safe.

Steve, I met you at a train event at Union station years ago, I believe you were showcasing you books... Just the other day, (4-27-32) I was perusing through a collection of business cards, and found a card you gave me, so I decided to explore what you represent, and the Carolwood Historic Society. I wish I had looked into this sooner, as a train buff I didn't know what I was missing!

Steve, while it's sad that the video quality is not better, it is very obvious that you did the best you could with the time and the handheld camera you had available to record the amazing location that once was Walt Disney's personal residence. Given the circumstances, your video is a gem! It is an invaluable piece of history and Americana, and as far as I can tell you are solely responsible for having the foresight to record this precious record. Have you any idea if Pentrex Publishers or anyone else, including the Disney family, shot any professional level film or video coverage of the Disney estate, following Lillian's death, before it was destroyed?

Who are you and why did you get the privilege of accessing the property? You keep saying grandpa in the video.. is Walt your grandfather? I can’t understand why the Disney family didn’t keep this home?? It had such a history.. they lived there for so many years. How could they sell it?
@sbroggie
@sbroggie 3 жыл бұрын
We were touring the property because my father Michael Broggie was tasked by Diane Disney Miller to facilitate the move of Walt's Barn after Lillian's death. Also we had Pentrex Publishers with us to assist in documenting the property and film it. The family decided to sell the property because the house had "issues", probably dry rot and termites and it was their decision, period. Sure it would have been awesome to maintain it, and maybe even restore the CPRR but that wasn't in the cards. Along with the Disney property, the new owners bought the two adjoining properties and demolished them as well to build the super mansion that stands there now. My grandfather was Roger Broggie Sr who is widely regarded as the first Imagineer and was a regular here at the house when the Carolwood Pacific was active. The only remaining features of the original property are the front gate, with all its hidden Mickeys and the Rorex tunnel.

@@sbroggie I have your fathers wonderful book of Disney’s railroad story. Also was an animator at Disney thru the 90’s and a live steamer. Sadly the tradition of animators and live steam trains doesn’t seem to have carried on with other modern day animators. Thanks for sharing the vid of the property. I’m glad they did at least save his barn and moved it to the LA live steamers site.

@@sbroggie I understand that Walt didn't dismatle the Carolwood Pacific right after he retired his little steam locomotive the Lily Belle. I understand the track was not lifted until a few years before Walt Disney passed away. I understand that Walt stopped running his beautiful little steam engine due to a bad accident during which a little girl got burned from escaping steam. because a guest engineer had gone too fast around a sharp bend in the track. derailing the Lily Belle
