I take a walk in the woods to enjoy some wildlife photography with my Fuji X-T4 and Fuji XF100-400mm + Fuji 1.4X Teleconverter. I show some of the highs and lows of wildlife photography and show some of what you might find to photograph in a woodland.

I've been using the Fuji XT-4 for almost two years now with the very compact and budget friendly XC 50-230mm f/4.5-6.7 for wildlife videography and I’m very satisfied with the results. The camera and lens really jump started a new hobby for me since the start of the pandemic. I've been particularly pleased with the stabilization but of course low light scenarios are tough when limited to f/6.7 (really need to crank up the ISO). Nevertheless I’ve really enjoyed getting outside and capturing some beautiful Ohio wildlife.

Great video. Thank you for really highlighting what it can be like when trying to do wildlife photography in the wild. It's important to know that you may not always see anything, that if you do, you may not get any decent photos or any photos at all, that the weather may not cooperate, that it may take many trips and many tries. It's all worth it, though, and all part of what makes the adventure. Thanks again. :) Paula

Cracking Deer image Wayne. I use to do alot of bird photography but found it hard work especially stalking them. the best way is to setup a feeding station and sit in a hide and let the birds come to you. Thank you for sharing and take care.

Thank you John much appreciated. The hide is definitely a good idea, I tend to make it difficult for myself by wanting to find and photograph them as they are 😊 Take care.

thank for giving people a sense of the highs and lows and patience required. I'd like to hear more about your thoughts on the camera and lens combo. Also it would be great to see your post process in editing the images? Did you have to do much in post?
@WayneRobertsonPhotography
@WayneRobertsonPhotography 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks very much Calvin. I’m really happy with the camera and lens combination so far, it has performed very well for this type of photography. I’ve not done a lot of tracking birds in flight yet so can’t say too much about that, but I’m very happy with the image quality. I will maybe do a processing video sometime. For these images I didn’t do much it was mainly small adjustments to get the overall exposure where it needed to be. Shooting in reasonably dark woodland can be challenging in that aspect. Thanks.

I really enjoy your treks into the country side! Are these National Forest or just land you've received permission to be on? You also seem to be becoming very adept with the Fuji system. Would love to know your road of learning and becoming confident with Fuji after being with Canon for so long! Thank you for the efforts you take to show, instruct, and inspire us.

Thanks very much and I’m glad you enjoyed watching 😊 I do visit national parks but this video was made in public woodlands. As for the Fuji system I do feel I know it well now and it’s working well for me. Maybe I can cover more about that in a future video. I appreciate you taking the time to comment, thanks.

Hi Wayne.. Great video and beautiful photos. I'm purchasing the 70-300mm fuji lens when it comes out next month, and I was wondering how you like your 1.4x teleconverter? Do you wish you had the 2.x or is the 1.4 sufficient?
@WayneRobertsonPhotography
@WayneRobertsonPhotography 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks very much. Regarding the TC I’m happy with the 1.4, I don’t like to use more than that.

Thank you for this great video. I am thinking about buying a lens (or kit) for wildlife photography. It would be for Deers, Chamois and Ibexes in the Alps. I've got an X-T20 and some basic lenses for architecture and landscape. Now the questions would be: -add a 100-400mm lens and keep the X-T20 (not weather sealed..) -Go for a X-T3 or X-T4 with a 100-400mm as I really like the Fuji ecosystem -Buy the Sony RX10 IV instead of the lens... I feel it would be the lazy solution, but I am impressed by the result at FF 600mm Any advice ? Cheers

Thanks for watching I’m glad you liked my video. I’m afraid I’ve no experience of the Sony camera so I can’t comment on its suitability, all I can say is that for my own needs I always appreciate being able to change lenses. As you already have some Fuji gear perhaps your cheapest and easiest option would be the lens first with a potential camera upgrade in the future. You could also consider renting before making a purchase.

Given the xt4 is often reviewed as a hybrid camera and lots of reviews seem to concentrate on video. What I’m wondering is now the xt3 has a firmware upgrade to give it the xt4 focus speed etc is it worth it choosing an xt4 over xt3 for wildlife only? I’ve currently got an xt2 and find the autofocus lacking for wildlife as it can be fleeting seconds to capture an image rather than a model posing in the streets
@WayneRobertsonPhotography
@WayneRobertsonPhotography 3 жыл бұрын
For me I'd consider that the X-T4 has better battery life, an improved mechanical shutter which also offers more fps, and IBIS is useful for stationary wildlife.
@MrSongwriter2
@MrSongwriter2 3 жыл бұрын
@@WayneRobertsonPhotography Thanks for the reply, I did think the ibis could be beneficial as it does help if you’re not using a monopod. Battery life isn’t a big deal as I have 3 batteries for the xt2 which I’m used to putting in the bag so I never run out. Although Sod’s law dictates you are guaranteed to miss that 1 in a lifetime shot whilst changing battery. But it does sound like the xt4 is the one to go for. Black Friday didn’t bring significant xt4 deals for the U.K. so will look to get one in January.

OM Goodness.......did you ask for all that rain? Give me mist any day. Wildlife photography seems slightly more challenging than landscape . Fi
@WayneRobertsonPhotography
@WayneRobertsonPhotography 3 жыл бұрын
Haha! On this occasion I didn’t get what I wanted - instead of some sun I got mainly rain. I do think wildlife is more challenging due to the uncertainty of what you’ll find, getting a nice composition/pose etc. I like to photograph wildlife in their natural habitats so you aren’t guaranteed any nice photos. Thanks 👍🏻
