Thanks for posting this. I hope to visit one day. It's more beautiful than my grandpa O'Gorman ever described. He was my best friend. Always dreamed of moving to Fethard. Hope there's room in Fethard for a Yank who's there to learn, work hard, minds his own business & just wants to build a simple life. Also I'd like to visit my great grandparents graves & pay my respects, they likely would've perished in the '30s or '40s. Great video.

Fethard is definitely worth visiting although opinion is divided on how nice it would be to live there. I like it.

My grandfather told me that in 1940's there was a Yank whom came to Fethard. He was a real "wanna be" Irish Patriot. He was asking too many of the wrong questions too loudly, drawing unwanted attention to himself at the pub one night. The next morning he was found on that hill tied to a tree naked. lol.

Some of my ancesters come from this area and had children baptised in Fethard. (Vaughan, Maher, Meaher) I'm having a hard time finding them except for the three baptisms in Fethard. Their residences were in Glengard in 1838 and Newtown in 1845. Thank you for this video. Was this the only catholic church and graveyard? The video really gave me a feel for where they lived!

Thanks Christine, I'll be making a return to Fethard this summer but those names do remain popular in the area, it's difficult to trace with certainty due to records having been destroyed.

There are other smaller sections of the Town Walls up by the GAA park and the roads are marked to show the outline of the walls.

Hayde is still definitely a local name, have you visited Fethard?

@@PanoramicIreland No would love to. My great grandad Patrick left for Tottington in Lancashire, England in the 1880's. My grandad was William Hayde.
