The branch of my family I'm from moved to the US from Roscrea and nearby Clonakenny generations ago. My best friend is from Bective and when I was visiting Ireland about 15 years ago we bribed his older brother to take us to Roscrea. I loved it. I'm a history buff and was fascinated by all the historical places. Monaincha Abbey was like stepping into the pages of a fantasy novel. I'll be going there again when I can manage it.

I live in roscrea and i never realised that it was actually any good for the history until now that i think of it we have the castle round tower damer house like sure its a pretty rough town but if you look past it its unreal for tourists coming to see places here

I am researching the ancestral background of my 75-yeat-old Sri Lankan Burgher friend, Timothy Rowland Bridge (Timothy). Timothy's grandfather Lancaster Bridge had been transported to Victoria, Australia in the 1850s, from Roscrea, County Tipperary, Ireland. Now I seek to find information about this Lancaster Bridge and his parental family back in Roscrea as well as his own Australian-born children and their children and children's children. After arriving in NSW aboard the ship 'Ann Dashwood" in the 1850s, Lancaster Bridge settles in Newbridge, Victoria as a pioneer and goes on to marry Ann Ellan Martin and together they raise five children including my friend's father , Frederick William Bridge. Indeed, this Frederick William Bridge emigrates to Ceylon between 1880 - 1900 and ultimately become a plantation manager and dies on April 01, 1953 sometime after taking his retirement . It would be wonderful, if anyone could tell me about the fate of Lancaster Bridge's parental family back in Roscrea as well as his own children and grandchildren in Australia. As a friend, I am trying to facilitate a virtual get-together of the Bridges.

If you were related to the late Eddie carey you would have seen on the right where Eddie Carey's bar and grocery was and ponti carey lived just across on the left hand side.

One Lancaster Bridge had emigrated to Australia in the early 1850s on board the sailing ship 'Anne Dashwood'. As pioneer settlers they had set up the agricultural village called Newbridge in New South Wales. Later on, Lancaster Bridge had married Anne Ellan Martin and raised 5 children. But absolutely nothing is known about the parents and siblings of Lancaster Bridge back in Roscrea, County Tipperary. Does anyone have any information about them?

Mark Zepp Stop if you want Mark. At your own risk though. An awful place. Best viewed through the back window of your car. There is a very good road to Birr, though.

+Mark Zepp As Frank says above Mark it is a truly awful place, one hour in that place would age you about 5 years, while there are some lovely people in Roscrea it is quite unfortunate that it is full of little Knackers who have the loudest voice

+amazingme i agree roscrea acc a nice place for the midlands I thaught it had no knackers untill today but everywhere has them ugly bastards
