Casey gives Voight a stern warning about his behaviour and his son's dangerous DUI. This is the moment that sparks their eventual rivalry.
Season 1 Episode 3 "Professional Courtesy"
Casey is forced to make a difficult decision about whether or not he wants to report CPD Detective Voight's son for DUI. Severide finally makes an appointment to see the doctor about his injured arm, which turns out to be a fractured vertebra. Peter Mills finds that splitting his time between his mom and her restaurant and his own job is difficult.

Is Voight teaching his son how to be responsible, by covering up and lying for him? Did it ever occur to him his son acts out, because he knows Daddy will come riding to the rescue? I'm reminded of this exchange from the Sword of Truth novels: "What if we preached honesty, yet gladly gave out a penny for every lie told?" "I'd wager we'd all soon be penniless!"

Clearly this is before the showrunners really figured out Voight's character. Unless he started out P.D like this and became the Voight we know over time. I'm not too sure because (I'm sure like a lot of the people here) I haven't seen the shows in full and just binge watch all the clips on this channel.
