What could be considered one of the biggest days in UK birding, the 'Birdrace' is an event held every year where teams descend onto their local patch to count how many species are present. Almost like a large survey teams battle it our trying to find the most species in one day. I ventured down to my beloved Ladywalk Nature Reserve to lend a helping hand but just how did we get on?

Music is tastefully done, is this your music? Guitar is nice, and no birding is not as easy as it looks. Very enjoyable, we need these things.

I think you did amazingly well - especially capturing the song birds (blackcap, etc.) singing, and that beautiful male bullfinch. I was shocked to hear that yellowhammer numbers are dwindling - down south where I live we have been saying it's odd we haven't seen any this year - then yesterday I spotted one in a tree near our car, so got some shots of him, and then today, between very heavy showers on our dog walk, another male yellowhammer, dropped down to the trail we were on and pecked along not too far in front of us. No pics of that one - weather too bad. As always, I enjoyed the music as much as your footage and chat!

Heya! Thank you for your lovely insight once again and yes, across the UK there's been a decline in numbers over the last few years. It's really quite rare I see them at all these days

Great video mate! Totally get the feeling that sometimes we don't capture enough for the videos haha, I always worry about that. I think there was some great footage here mate but enjoyed the most of being brought along for the 12 hour stint haha, really interesting and great to see the whole team log so many!!!

It's that delicate balance, if I concentrate on video do the images suffer and vice versa, it's a right pain in the arse 🤣 The team I was with was insane, years and years of experience!

Another great video Damian. The places you walked I have not even seen. I was down reading looking after my sister property while she was in spain. She has a lot of land, I got some images of the yellow hammer in her garden. Also whitethroats. Images on flicr. Hope to catch up with you soon.

Heya mate! Yeah if you walk past the main entrance and follow the river it takes you to the church and a few more little woodlands, it's not often that something pops up but it's always worth a shot for the bird race! That sounds awesome and yeah I'll probably run into you down the reserve sometime 😎
