A WHOLE WEEK in My Natural Hair Routine | Moisturize & Stretch Type 4 Hair No Heat

How to moisturize and stretch type 4 hair using no heat to prevent shrinkage, knotting, and breakage.
One of the best ways to prevent single strand knots, shrinkage, and long detangling sessions is to stretch your hair. You all know I love shrinkage, but I’ve found that the easiest way to retain length is to stretch type 4 hair without the use of heat. I think we can all agree that moisturizing natural hair is important, but how often throughout the week should it be done? On average I moisturize my hair twice throughout week. My goal this week was to do a length check without adding heat, so I took the banding approach to stretch my hair.
This is a whole week (7 days) in my natural haircare routine from wash day to length check.

OMG! That's ALOT of manipulation of your hair! You do that every week?
@LaToyaEbonyHair
@LaToyaEbonyHair 4 жыл бұрын
Hey La Tanya, Not at all! This week was a higher manipulation week only because I wanted to stretch it for my length check. So really, this is a tutorial on how to stretch your hair for showing length . Normally, I wear a twistout or keep it in twists and a high bun. I’ll re moisturize mid-week. I plan on doing another week in my hair video. Thanks for asking!

Goodness 😲 I was beginning to feel normal watching that video. With my high porosity hair, that level of manipulation is normal for me! Despite having a good mix of products, daily moisturizing is necessary. Should I be concerned?

I'm HERE FOR THIS lol. If you want a longer stretch, on one your remoisturize/twist days, put your banded sections in a low ponytail at the base of head (where your hairline and neck meet lol) that brings your twists on the front/side the farthest distance for the most stretch.

Hey LaToya!🤗 Since you are low porosity, have you used rice water? And how do you deal with dryness?As a new subscriber, I'm still trying to watch all your videos when I can, so if you've addressed this already, forgive the question. Thanks.

This video is just what I needed. Thank you! On Day 1, after washing your hair, did you use any product? Or did you let it dry “naked” until Day 2?

The first bit was just an experiment I was doing for KZfaq. Day 1 I used a leave in conditioner, cream, and oil. Then I twisted it.

Curlformers, and dupe wave formers are my go-to and I don't think I will go back unless a better technology comes along. They are heatless, the style can potentially last a week, easy to sleep in if needed, easy to clean, and take maybe 2 hours to install if you're fancy

@@LaToyaEbonyHair omg! I just tried my first twists to stretch my hair and I'm in love with it. I was only stretching it to do a roller set but it turned into a very nice twist out. I never thought my hair would behave enough to have a decent twist out. The stretching made the difference! It's turning into a stretched afro as I type but I still like it😂. Thanks so much for the tips! I was really contemplating becoming a straight natural. Now to figure out how to maintain it at night🤔🤷🏽‍♀️.

I was just about to ask how do you stretch natural hair. Very good suggestions but a lot of work for a busy schedule. Do you flat iron to cut the time? I would probably try this for my hair but depending on timing for busy days.
@LaToyaEbonyHair
@LaToyaEbonyHair 4 жыл бұрын
I normally wouldn’t do this much during the week. Typically I’ll leave my hair alone in the low manipulation style for about 5 days. I just needed to do my length check...tbh I find flat ironing to be more time consuming...maybe it’s because I get to spread out the banding over time....not sure. Flat ironing takes all day from wash to finish for me.

I am enjoying your videos and getting alot of help from them. I would like to ask though why is my 4C so thin. Like it's not balding or shedding, that's not what I mean. I mean it's not full, like density wise. Any tips or ideas? I was thinking maybe because I colour it to remove the greys? Can that be it? Hope you see this and have some tips or maybe you can link a vid you did about this ( maybe you already discussed it) Love from the Netherlands
@LaToyaEbonyHair

If it’s always been that way, it’s probably genetics. Also our hair can thin out over time as we get older. Mine (believe it our not) has actually gotten less dense- especially since having my son. I have a video on porosity and density: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/f8lnjblkxL3Snpc.html Hope that helps. If it was a drastic change, I’d suggest going to your physician to get some bloodwork done. Just in case. I’ve never done it, but I’ve seen others do tea rinses they swear by.

@@LaToyaEbonyHair okay thanks a bunch. Will look at the video now and definitely google that tea rinse thingy. I absolutely love my hair, dont get me wrong I just want it to be more dense if possible...lol

My routine is similar; banding technique and all ☺. It's been a couple of years since I last used direct heat for drying. The process may be tedious sometimes, but it's worth it for retaining length *for me*. I'm working on finding different styles. My trusty twist out is nice, but...
@LaToyaEbonyHair
@LaToyaEbonyHair 4 жыл бұрын
I understand. In actuality I don’t use the banding method often. I typically just do a twist out and call it a day. This week was a special week. One thing I like about direct heat is how long and puffy my hair looks. My twist outs turn out so good on blow dried hair. How often did you use to use direct heat?

@@LaToyaEbonyHair For more than a year after transitioning. Though my hair was Virgin, I only felt comfortable with straightened hair. At least once a week I flat ironed! I had no idea what I was doing though lol. Between that and a bout with protein overload, my hair broke off. Afterward, I trashed my heating tools. I'll use a hand dryer, if pressed for time. But I haven't been getting out much lately.
