Aussie Bush Harvest

2 жыл бұрын

As I grew up and started pursuing a natural lifestyle of hunting, fishing and the outdoors, I dreamt of wild places so remote that their lack of access protected their riches and that such places would hold secrets beyond our understanding until we could journey there. That Dream is real and to live in a country where places that wild still exist leaves me nothing but thankful. Back in winter I hiked deep into a national park and enjoyed some great trout fishing, I hope you enjoy the video.

Lovely looking country, looks like a larger version of the river at the back of my farm north of Goulburn NSW. I don't have pigs coming to the riverbanks much, but more likely to come across goats that come down from the cliffs above. Just a tip to keep your ferrules (line guides) in good nick, instead of hooking the hooks of your lures in them and risk wearing them, just slip the hooks around the metal supports of the ferrules. Good hunting and fishing mate! Greg.

Hey Profty, great video mate. Good to see people are still getting after it despite these aweful lockdowns. As a conservationist how do you feel about stocking australianrivers with trout? I support hunting feral animals and regulated hunting of plentiful natives. But stocking invasive species in our already struggling waterways seems like not a great idea?
@AussieBushHarvest
@AussieBushHarvest 2 жыл бұрын
Mate thats an important question and I think its definitely not black and white. First thought for me is always.. what about carb and redfin, I feel we need to talk about those before we address trout because they're so noxious and so much more destructive WITHOUT stocking. But if we focus on trout so many of the areas they were introduced and are still currently stocked are modified waterways. Dams and reservoirs have had huge affects particularly making streams colder and thus creating ideal trout habitats but had bad impacts on native fish. Many of these areas have been trout streams going on 100 years now, particularly in the snowy mountains, even more so in Tasmania. The social worth of a trout resource can not be ignored but a detriment to native stocks shouldn't be accepted either. So am I in favour of trout stocking.. yes in some conditions. But I support native stocking even more!! The thing is as well, areas that are trout free still have massive challenges facing their native fish, not least of which POLLUTION!!!! And disgraceful and corrupt water mismanagement. And as said before the effect of the introduced fish carp and redfin is 10 times worst. We can always have the discussion about trout but it has to come after we've addressed these far more massive issues. In the meantime lets stock heaps of native fish 🤙
@brad1840
@brad1840 2 жыл бұрын
@@AussieBushHarvest Mate that's a killer response. I agree whole heartedly. Stock natives as much as possible, perhaps in some areas we leave the trout to naturalize and breed but discontinue stocking. I'm not sure... I can see the value (social/recreational) of having this resource available. But trout are voracious feeders and definitely outcompete our slower less aggressive natives.
