A Winter's Day on our Farm

This is an experiment and I hope some of you will be up for giving it a go - follow me through an entire day on the farm in winter! A lot of darkness and head torch, mud, manure, puddles - but that's what life here is about these days, and I have many good moments throughout the day to make up for the rain on my face and the muck on my wellies!!!

You work so hard it makes me tired! I was remembering that I had a field full of rushes with not much room for grasses on my farm. I mowed them down with the rider and pretty much got rid of them. So nice to spend the day with you, thank you.

Mucking out is a great strategy against the cold, couldn't enjoy being outside doing nothing around here at the moment...although it's a nice dream, just to sit in the warm and enjoy, ahhh! Lucky you ;-)

Thanks Sandra to let us participate in your winter farm day. So good to see, as I am nearly the same every day, as we are living on a farm practising therapeutic riding, too. I think the weather is quite comparable, as we live in the very northern part of Germany. In the winter months, I only know the animals and countryside in darkness, cause we are working fulltime in the city. But soon - we believe this - spring will be arriving.. 😅😊😜 All the best to your family and all the lovely animals.

That’s the longest barely edited video I ever watched! I’m SO impressed- honestly, how you can do all this work every day with no stable/barn help is a complete mystery to me.

Just keeping going with the routine and you barely notice it gets done. Also headphones with radio on helps to keep up the rythm of sweeping ;-)

Is that fairly normal for this time of year? Reminds me of upstate New York where I went to college - rain was the norm. Sunny days were rare. We make do with what The Lord gives us, so we manage to be happy no matter what and grateful for His bounty! I hope that the water is working now for Skye so you don't have to bring her it by buckets all the time. Your farm animals are so lucky to have such a caring soul in you, Sandra. And with Tim to take care of all things he takes care of - a lovely arrangement which we're so happy to share with you... thank you! Hope you have a nice day and weekend... maybe a drier one! 😊

It's been incredibly wet here, hardly any dry days since July!!! It is an especially wet year, the weather pattern just brings all that rain in from the north Atlantic and we are the first ones to be hit! At the moment, we have a drier frosty spell, much needed! The water came back the next morning, phew. That's a worry in winter because they drink so so much, but usually, our water system is very reliable. Carrying water buckets is a great work out for upper arm strength, no gym subscription needed ;-)

Our farm set up does save a lot of money for gym subscription, fitness gear etc alright!!! And it keeps us warm, and we always have great appetites...no leftovers!

I really enjoyed that, it's fascinating to see how all the animals have their own routine and habits, including you! :D You guys work so hard :) When you got distracted with another job, I thought, ok, good to know I'm not the only one that does that... on my way to do one thing and suddenly doing something else. Hi Sandra. I missed the other geese in the routine. Are they still around? And what is with the water? It looks like you had as much rain as we did. Luckily we have a dry period after months of rain of about ten days, so the goat barn just didn't get flooded. The wettest year in a hundred years over here. Not sure what Buttercup's parents did during my day, they usually just hang out on the lawn - they are the only animals, apart from the bees, who are minded by Tim, so that's why I missed them in my film....Yes, we had non stop rain here since July...a little break at the moment with drier weather and some frost...just as well, the land really needs a break!

Buttercup's parents are still alive and honking for now, however tasy they look! They've just started getting spring feelings and there might be a little brother or sister for Buttercup on the way soon...
