Six years in the making, Twice Above the Atlantic is a coming-of-age documentary celebrating the spirit of youth, challenges of travel, and pursuit of the great American road trip.
This film was made entirely by myself, from shooting on a Canon 550D in 2016 to editing, colour grading and sound design from the start of 2020 to late 2022. The soundtrack was written by myself in collaboration with long-time friend Aiden Appleton and released on all digital distribution platforms as a forerunner to the film.

Twice Above the Atlantic tells the story of my year as an exchange student in America, fixing up two vintage automobiles, and attempting to complete a 10,000 mile road trip in 36 days.

Congratulations for getting this film out, undoubtedly your biggest project ever since you start from the MLP days, and so much of these songs have reverbated through my life and experiences. In fact, the whole album was basically played on loop throughout my recent two-week escapade to the US to reunite with friends again after the days of being locked in. I always loved how all of your works exude meaning for all your listeners, fans, and friends, and this project tops that off. Thank you for your compelling and engaging works through the years!

I bought the album last summer and now I finally got around to watching the film. Your music is truly magical. One chord, one hum, and you perfectly manage to capture that feeling of unforgettable memories in the making. Your music was brilliant in the Evening Star days, it's gotten more powerful now, and I can't wait to hear more in the future.

I'm simply blown away. I knew this project was going to be a success from the first trailer, but I was not expecting such a beautiful, nostalgic, and reflective masterpiece of a documentary. I felt like I was right there experiencing the trip along with you the whole way through. I have boundless respect for both you and Connor - your positivity and spirit of adventure are truly inspirational. A HUGE congratulations to you Marcus for completing such an ambitious project, and thank you so much for continuing to share your talents and positivity. I absolutely cannot wait to see what you do next!

I only now caught up with watching the movie - and what a wondrous adventure it was! Going to America as an exchange student was my big dream, but unfortunately, I didn't have an opportunity to go - I'm glad I could have lived it vicariously through your memories! It was beautifully filmed and the soundtrack was just perfection. I almost welled up at the end. I did end up going elsewhere for my exchange, what I found reassuring is that despite different location, the feeling of studying abroad was exactly the same - the sense of wonder, the urge to go exploring, the tangible sense of time running out, the feeling of unity with people surrounding you, but also some profound loneliness. All the best from Northumberland.

After pushing back the time I'd be watching this documentary for a while, I finally sat down and watched it. I felt sucked in for what felt 30 minutes in your adventure, your universe. I had been listenning to your album Twice Above the Atlantic for a while now and it always gave me roadtrip vibes, riding under the sunset with a long road ahead of me. Well all of this is to say that your music, and this movie with it, really went to the core of pure nostalgia I feel when thinking back to my time in the States, or other roadtrips in Europe for that matter. Thank you so much for this wonderful experience ! Greetings from Switzerland :)

Wow such a lovely vibe! Fantastic film! Love the softness of the pictures, the music, the narrative, like and old fashioned documentary yet vibrant, young, cheerful, spontaneously fresh, funny and exciting. So many experiences of you! And I think that is one of the best gift one can offer to others, to share episodes of their lives. Thanks for sharing this wonderful time of you and honestly, British guys in US? What an excellent film and soundtrack! I was excited to see your take on Seattle (I really enjoyed recognizing your route along I-90 as you passed through Vantage along the Columbia River, where I spent several summers working in my younger years) and was a bit disappointed that it didn't meet up to your hopes. Just based off the footage, it looks like you mostly stuck to the downtown area (which isn't really exciting) and Pike Place, which is a tourist icon but rarely lives up to the expectations. From your view from Volunteer Park, it looks like you made it up to Capitol Hill, so hopefully you got at least a small taste of the real heart of Seattle. I'm glad you got to experience the Olympic peninsula and HWY 101.

Hey Max, thank you so much! I'm so glad you enjoyed it, and completely appreciate your points - I've actually been to Seattle since and appreciated it a great deal more. You're dead right about Pike Place. Highway 101 made up for it this time though :) I can't wait to return!

This was such an emotional documentary to watch, from the start to the end. I've always have such starry-eyes towards road trips. I've travelled to different countries and different areas within my own country because i've wanted to have an experience somewhat similar to this. An unforgettable adventure through many areas with people that influence us in some capacity or way. And the tracks that played throughout parts of the documentary greatly elevated that feeling. This just feels too perfect to what i want out of a road trip. A long adventure through many areas with friends you hold dear by your side, with acoustic music playing in your heads. I found you through your "Tokyo Rain" in your 39 Seconds album and it was by far one of the most atmospheric piece i've heard back in the year 2019. And it is only until these couple of days where i decide to check more of your stuff that i'm not used to, yet. And what a blast through history, your music and songs were. From your MLP days (even though i wasn't present in that time, i felt it would've been one of the best times one could have), and now to Twice Above The Atlantic. And after i listened to your 39 Seconds album, i then went to watch this beauty of clips between the people you meet and the areas you've been to. Really makes me want to feel it for myself. Alas, the world right now might not feel too well at the moment, if you know what i mean. I don't know if you'll see this comment or not but if you do, Marcus...then i thank you for this documentary. While i not have felt something close to a memorable road trip adventure, i got a glimpse of what it could be. Despite the many setbacks and the fact that someone (i think you mentioned a cop?) tried to steal your car and all the belongings inside. That one moment where your friend hid in the trunk to avoid higher fees to drive down the road? Such a mad plan, and not sure how i put it but there's some nostalgia within the nature of the act, i love it. Though i have questions i've been meaning to ask. Why was your album named 39 Seconds, and what happened the 1978 Lincoln you drove starting at roughly the half of documentary?
@MarcusWarnerMusic
@MarcusWarnerMusic Жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for the lovely comment, and sorry for the delay in replying. I'm delighted you enjoyed it, that's exactly what I was aiming for in terms of nostalgia! I can't answer re: the 39 Seconds name, but the 78 Lincoln is in England now and my only car :)

This film is a piece of art and what an adventure! As a musician and video guy myself, I can only assume the work that went into this. I especially think you did a good job with the editing and how you embeded the scenes you captured during the trip. It's never boring, neither it's exhausting to watch. To be honest, I would still have watched it, even if it was quite a bit longer.
