Marshall is given a very nice gift from a 10-year-old viewer of the channel, a Doxa dress watch from the 1950s! Alexa watches the videos here on the channel and thought I would like the dial of the watch, so she and her dad sent it to me. Even though they said Marshall could keep it, he has other plans for the watch :)

Hi Marshall, love your channel. Your channel made get interested in vintage watches and watch repair. I find myself in a very stressing situation now. I recently acquired a Seiko bellmatic. I noticed the dial had some dust on it, so I wanted to clean it up. I was having difficulties removing the alarm button and thought that maybe the rotor was in the way of a lever. However, when I tries to remove it, I instead removed the screws of alarm plate and bump the wheels out of place. I believe fixing it goes far beyond my ability. I was wondering if you would be interested on it. I have asked watch repair places and they are not interested in working on it since it's a vintage watch.

It's not all Gimme', gimme', gimme' in this world -- that would be a poor lesson to teach this child. Giving it back to the family [and having this video] is a better lesson. Brian Savage, it just occurred to me, I hate being the voice of reason. Those are ill-gotten gains. Some people just don't think lol. Cheers [

Having the "video" is enough. What's a child going to do with an old watch.? Give it back to the family [and return the favor -- "Pass it forward" in other words ] Hate being the "voice of reason" though lol.

You get many comments on the 'watchmaking', but few seem to appreciate the camera work that goes into these videos! The angles you use, the close ups allowing us to witness in real time what you are doing, the narrative, the end edit, often using 'before' and 'after' shots after getting a replacement part in an instant - sheer genius, thank you Marshall...

The fact that you have the ability to show your audience a process that is very tedious and frustrating to many, all the while showing us how to handle each unique situation with the patience and grace that such situations require. Out of all the watches you come across, what is your daily wear? I still rock my great great grandfather's 1917-18 rolex. He lived to 95 and gave it to me when I turned 8. I know I shouldn't daily it but all I have to do is look at my wrist to know the time accurately and remember what he went through to be able to even give it to me, he was an incredible man and I'm blessed to have a constant reminder of what he endured in ww1. Keep keeping the past alive for more generations!

I love the fact you often start replacing a screw by going in the 'wrong' direction initially to get the thread to align correctly. Shows great mechanical 'sympathy' and aligns with your other mechanical history. I was hoping you would send it back and hope the young recipient of it appreciates it and bookmarks this video. Always a pleasure to watch. It is unusual today that anyone will watch a 46-60 minute video but I find these mesmerising. Well done.

We use this method in hanging TVs when we’re using snaptoggle drywall anchors, because if you misthread it it will break the apparatus off in the wall and will waste you several minutes cause then you have to take the whole bracket down and redo them… it was really cool to see him do it and kind of catch that, cause I used to be the least mechanically inclined person in the world before I started doing home theater install work and learned a ton of stuff and interesting to see other pros use some tricks of the trades.

I inherited a Doxa just like this one from my father in 2020. He wore it so often that the dial turned a copper brown color. I always thought that the brown color was how the watch was made it is so beautiful. When I had it serviced the watchmaker told me that it originally came in a white linen color, and also that the watch likely had not been serviced in 40-50 years; sounds just like my dad that he didn't bother to service his daily wear watch. After servicing the watch it runs great; I now wear it only for special occasions.

That is the most gorgeous dial I've ever seen. It's baffling how the brand decided to cut corners and use electroplating on such an elegant watch. Thank you so much for taking us along for the ride. I must admit, I probably would have given Alexa a substitute watch and kept that one for myself. 🤣🤣

When you've watched so many of these videos that you can follow along and understand what's happening without actually watching! It makes putting little boys down for nap time more tolerable. Also, I love that you are going to send this back to your young viewer. I bet she will cherish this watch forever.

The "born-to-fly spring". Hahaha. So true! Wow, it's great that you have young viewers interested in your channel, but it makes a whole lot of sense. Lots of inquisitive minds out there. It would have been amazing to have something like KZfaq when I was at school. It's a whole world of science and creativity that is accessible to all ages.

Not too surprising that a 10 yrd old enjoys your channel. You have a way of explaining your craft that makes it easier for viewers of all ages to learn quite a bit about time keeping. From sourcing watches, parts, and tools to history lessons on makers and designers - this is a full service channel! That little girl is going to be one lucky viewer! Serious bragging rights!

Well done for doing what you did with the restoration and for sending it back to the little girl . I do much the same thing but with computers , i do it for free just for the challenge of getting it working again

Just wanted to mention, rodico also works pretty freaking great on small electronics like cellphones to clean up those speaker grills and little nooks and crannies, even on the board itself for light cleaning of lint and gunk. Best twenty bucks I ever spent.

You sir are a true gentleman. Doing all of that work at your cost and then returning that watch to the young viewer.... She will treasure that watch forever with her dad! Just stand up of you. I tip my hat! You should place those micro screws beside a USA penny to show us just how small they are!

My father in law have a christmas decoration that has a stuck swiss music box movement inside it, that is from his childhood. and after having watched your video's for a while, I got it apart and cleaned, so it now works perfectly again. He looked at it, and said that it brought back so many memories. This is what you made possible.

I personally admire your skill and have for some time. I am in a different craft. The way you speak to what you are explaining to the viewer ( student / hobbyist ) gets a first class education. Myself would like to give back from a machinist skill under the same environment you have done so well to create here. This is both professional and a art form. You certainly are appreciated for your manner and humility and other true craftsmen see that clearly.

I have wanted a Seiko Automatic 7002 since i first saw it as a young kid in the early 90's, recently purchased a second hand one and watching your videos i now understand the quote to have it serviced from the watch maker. The service is costing more than what i paid for the watch.
