Learned quite a lot here, great video. 1:30:51 well, I think some character mods are overpowered, but they provide fun for everyone in general, especially people like me, since I don't do really good at Vanilla StS. Not sure if these ones are overpowered though, I find these to be solid but never tried on Ascension 20: 1. The Guardian (thematically spire-ish, good mechanics and synergies, and some fun new mechanics) 2. The Cursed (even has "mod configs" located in the main menu to let you start with, and see all the archetypes being offered. Plays with curses and curse exhausting. Edit1: TEMPORARY curse addition. can use normal in-game curses though) 3.The Slimebound (I find it very fun and somewhat solid, but there's 2 uncommon powers in particular that seem to be a must-have. Maybe i just haven't figured out the builds yet. Healing, damage stacking that unleashes in 1 hit, and adaptive ; has cards that mimics slay the spire bosses) Meanwhile, the hard-for-me-but-maybe-balanced ones are: 1. The Disciple 2. The Elementalist 3. The Necromancer The complicated I just tried recently: 1. The Spell Scribe 2. The Astrologer

Thanks a lot and I got lots of inspirations from this, so I've beaten A14 and A15 without too much effort after watching this.

Good video, I've been having a heck of a time building a good Defect deck. This was a big help.

Finally! Been waiting for a Defect overexplain for so long! I don't agree with everything you said (in particular about Reboot) but you're undoubtedly a great player!

Wondering if you considered using the attack potion to save a turn on Lagavulin. Whenever I'm full on potions I use them fairly loosely.
@ElGiganto176 жыл бұрын
Ridiculous. First entire act I would have done the exact same things. Only the Claw thing really showed me that I shouldn't be trying that hard, just like you said. After that, there were some glaring plays I would have done differently. So I'm glad I watched through it, should help me beat A15.

doing a custom run right now, i essentially have a near-infinite first-hand due to the unceasing top and a shittone of 0-cost cards, i threw hoarder on and my god, i have so many anger cards, as well as dramatic entrances, with rage cards.

Lose Ascenders Bane and receive a relic. Slay the Spire has certainly come a long way

5:31 So I'm confused, he's saying you want to upgrade focus and front-loaded damage, but you don't really want to upgrade orb-related cards. And then as an example he says you don't need to upgrade Cold Snap and Ball Lightning, but when you upgrade those it's actually the front-loaded damage part that you're upgrading, not the orb-related part. And he also says Zap is a good upgrade, which is only orb-related. (Sure, it's the mana, and I get why that's good, but still, an orb effect is the only thing that card does.) So what does he mean exactly? Maybe he's just talking about the specific cards and what their upgrades do, and it just happens to be that cards that are solely front-loaded damage tend to be good upgrades, and those that include orb effects tend not to be (Zap being an exception still)?
@justinsane54535 жыл бұрын
Typically, the cards that give orbs are played for the orbs, with the damageyblock given by them being a bonus. I think what he means is orb cards that upgrade to a better second effect, like ball lightnings damage, are not a priority. Zap is different from this in that the lowered energy changes how often you would play it by allowing you to do so every time you draw it
@quelqunx74703 жыл бұрын
1:12:00 pretty sure jorbs is off on reboot, draw 5 for 0 energy is insane, and even if you didn't draw your good cards and had to shuffle your bad cards into the deck, you're drawing 5 cards, which offsets shuffling bad cards into the deck. In fact, it provides a good chance of drawing the good cards right away instead of next turn.

1:20:09 Can you explain your choice there? Obviously that was quite the valuable relic being offered to you. :^)
@Jokseej4 жыл бұрын
There was no reason to build the dark orb to 406+. You could've just invoked the frost orb and let the dark orb invoke itself 4 times once you hit 102+ damage on it
@user-vx1up7ty7z3 жыл бұрын
The rightmost orb isn't actually evoking, it's activating 4 times. The dark orb is also activating once every turn, to scale its damage up. If it was at 102 and he evoked the frost orb by channeling some other orb, then the dark orb would just start gaining damage 4x, not doing damage to timeeater 4x

What’s your reasoning behind not thinking Intimidate is a great card but liking go for the eyes? Weak is hard to come by in both ironclad and defect and the ironclad starting deck is more expensive - is it because ironclad usually lacks card draw in the mid game so you’d rather have a more expensive card that does more?
@matthewblough50886 жыл бұрын
I think I saw him answer this in a vid once and it was basically because Ironclad has so many more weakness options. Clothesline, Shockwave, Uppercut, and Intimidate (maybe more?). Plus Intimidate doesn't trigger any of the attack based relics OR do any damage. Maybe it came up during the Ironclad over-explain?
@Jorbs6 жыл бұрын
I take all the 2-cost Weakness stuff in Ironclad super high.

1 claw is meh. 3 claws in a very small deck with a couple of "draw" cards are devastating. The only problem is getting rid of unnecessary cards, which depends on your luck (aka. the RNG).
@Drecon846 жыл бұрын
Nice to get a freeroll on the act 3 boss.
@KidCharlema9ne4 жыл бұрын
What did he mean that when you cull your deck you get enemy status effects more often? Are they based on a deck reshuffle??
@gabehasyoutube4 жыл бұрын
Since you have less of your own cards, the proportion of status cards to your own cards is higher, thus it is more likely for you to draw them.
@viviciuszn6 жыл бұрын
While i agree claw is a COMPLETE GAMBLE, claw decks are super fun, coldheaded+, all for one and hologram makes it super fun, its like shuriken + cloak and dagger Like, in freaking hindsight, you got so many claws that it would have been pretty fun lol
@TheScottishNutcase6 жыл бұрын
viviciuszn yeah but if you want to consistently win then claw isn't a good pick in a lot of situations
@Drecon846 жыл бұрын
The problem with Claw is that the first one is a very bad pick, the second one isn't great and the third is decent. Anything after that is good to great. If you want to win every game, taking that first Claw isn't helping you win consistently. That said, I often take Claw, just for fun. It usually wins the run for me.

Why not toke the self repair at the end? 🤔
@QudoRS6 жыл бұрын
RiV he explained it. You only have to draw it once and if you have a turn to play it, then it's no longer in your deck. If he kept dual cast, then he would have to keep drawing it and like he said, it's only a win more card.
@elifriedman3176 жыл бұрын
First! Also thanks jorbs for putting this up!
@brianz56145 жыл бұрын
Wait, shouldn't you toke self repair before final boss? It literally does nothing in the last fight.
@1993greeksoldier5 жыл бұрын
But it does remove itself which a defend doesn't. Probably still a reasonable decision either way
