I know Podcasts today already have ads, but the idea that corporates are now hunting after these short periods of our peace of mind is really scary.

When I am paying for an audio book, I do not expect any advertising, that's why I am paying. They tried free books with print advertising in the past which failed.

Interesting video overall, but just mentioning the Tech Crunch article "The Majority of U.S. consumers still download zero apps a month" and using that to justify super apps being the future, was INCREDIBLY misleading! I read the article, and found that the "Majority" was just 51% and consisted of predominantly people 35+. The other 49% were downloading quite a few more apps!! I don't see any signs of super apps becoming as big in western countries as soon as she is predicting. Both the Apple and Android developer communities are still seeing large revenue growth even these last couple years.

Welp, that was not as bad as the comment section made it seem to be. I actually share her enthusiasm about "data-assets", but the idea that the west has anything to learn from Chinese "super-apps" is absolutely grotesque and I feel slightly insulted.

Nice. Her predictions are on point. She only misses ONE very important one. Second hand markets in the apps in major cities. One can buy virtually anything on such second hand markets, if the city is large enough. It's like taking pictures and chat with a price tag and appointment for the sale or purchase. Some apps even use bike delivery, if the customer pays per credit card in advance. It's like online shopping, but more social and much more sustainable.

Touting surveillance capitalism like it will “save us”... Save who? The consumers or the bank accounts of the owners?

Imagine someone who lost his sleep due to a spending habit and getting in to debts(which happens a lot) trying to improve sleep by listening to a sincere-looking podcast about sleeping better - there's nothing worse that can happen to him.

I love that idea about hiding ads inside movies. Imagine free movies funded by ads. You could watch the latest blockbuster movie for free. It could be paid for by hiding personalized/targeted ads hidden throughout the movie. I would much prefer ads than having to pay for the movie. I know people are going to complain about the ads. But if you don't want ads, you can just buy the paid version with no ads. There can be 2 versions - regular paid version with no ads, or free version with ads.

Love the partnership ideas. Audio ads into Podcasts which feel native.

SUPER APP should be built on the open-source and blockchain tech with a high focus on privacy and the ability to be decentralized. Otherwise, we will end up with a monopoly - BIG BROTHER.

Contextual feature, integrated feature and interoperability were part of an app's product roadmap since always but that doesn't fits the description of super app. Super apps lacks USP.

This talk would have been much more appealing for the general KZfaq audience (vs the advertising industry live audience) if Connie had emphasized how it's possible to offer personalised content and offers to benefit the viewer - customer centric optimisation. Getting interrupted by ads does not make me love a company.

This is the perfect example of the current state of tech...instead of focusing on solving the problems we face today we settle for selling another fucking widget. We focus on trying to figure out how else can we exploit consumer behavior to sell them more crap nobody needs.

As a techie I get it but she's just highlighting the conviences of of making ppl buy more stuff. Also, totally leaving out the part out the ability to practice privacy. But that not sexy to the marketing folks.

The after-school education sector that you find in much of the developing world is getting ripe for disruption as 5G-AR/VR-machine learning technologies converge. Researching this as I did for the American Cultural Association in Morocco, I can say it has tremendous potential for poor youth and adults to improve their lives. However, one significant downside is that consumerist subconscious messages will feed off the data from the students.

I like the idea of apps combining like the hotel and food delivery app. The future of podcasts does seem like it's only going to get better. The reason I think it'll get better is because I see podcasting as a vehicle for smart people to get a hour of air time to explain a difficult problem instead of the usual five to ten minutes they usually get on some TV show
