Last one I did a password remove on the customer explained it was her mother's who had just pass4d away. Windows machine, once past the firmware password the lock screen was of 3 generations of the same family, including my customer and her daughter, last name on the user account was the customer's last name, and I found an obituary for the mother. The main thing on the machine was family photos.

there are many businesses laptops returned with password on bios, it doesn’t mean it is stolen.

You can reset the winbond the chip on the board, just rewire it to the programmer. Just contact apple if the MacBook is reported as stolen, keep the market clean.

Setting search direction to "All" will search the entire document. In this program and notepad, I've had searches not find anything because it was only searching from the current location in the file to the end (or the beginning). Wrap around is another option that can be very useful.

I believe you are confusing the EFI lock with activation lock (2018 and newer MacBooks with T2 security)

Apple doesn’t report stolen products and people sale MacBooks online with iCloud locks and efi passwords locks on them and eBay tells the seller to let buyers know

I had to have this done to my Mac a few years ago. Got treated like a criminal that day, it wasn't very pleasant. And to get a receipt for a purchase from Apple was like pulling finger nails.

Just think how much easier this would be for a socketed bios chip? This is some cool work right here, reminds me of the times I hot flashed socketed bios's minus the hex editing. Can't help but wonder if there's not some way of clearing the cmos on this board without removing and editing the chip? Like some trick of shorting out two chip leads that clears it? 🤔

Some programers have some sort of clip and you place on the pins, you can read/write then. At first the bios chips had a socket and you could remove them easy

It’s a security feature. It’s not supposed to be possible, let alone easy, to bypass the password. Adding expense and thickness is exactly the wrong thing to do here. Socketed flash is history. Applications that may need to rewrite flash either use JTAG or or other methods to reprogram in situ.

@@lookitskazzy you mean "UEFI?" It might defeat the purpose, but then so does hex editing... Lol. Obviously the UEFI isn't completely full proof if it can be hacked. You'd be amazed at the tricks that can be done few know about.

@@garyr7027 you can simply build a jig to access the UEFI chip, no need for soldering. Those chips usually arriving blank, unprogrammed in the reels, the manufacturers are using ICT/FCT equipment to test the boards and program the blank chips after the SMT phase.

Is this the same as removing a Remote Management Service? I have been told the only way to unlock is to get the serial to be removed from the MDM. This was purchased as part of a bulk older and this on is locked.

So this removes the firmware password. But to be clear it does not bypass activation lock (icloud) which will re-emerge even after os reinstall because activation lock is linked to device serial???

You could boot opencore with EFI passcode bypassed and spoof serial/system ID to get around the iCloud lock.

If the MacBook has iCloud lock and EFI password, this will only remove the password EFI prompt at boot. iCloud MacBook will always require iCloud email and password to install or reinstall any OS. A MacBook with iCloud wont even let you select a boot drive as shown in this video at the end with big boss.

Pawn shops are required to get photo ID and keep it. Maybe do the same when someone requests this. A bona fide customer will have no problem but a thief would

People don't pay to get a stolen laptop unlocked unless they already know they have something worth the money. Thieves aren't big into loss leading.

Alex isn't a pawn shop and once he starts collecting copies of IDs, he's now becoming responsible for data protection and abiding by all applicable laws... more trouble than it is worth. There's no law against helping people bypass EFI passwords.

Funny story, I forget passwords easy from brain damage due to strokes, so I use fingerprint reader to login. A while back I had to do some roof repairs and all my fingerprints were altered from handling the rough shingles so I had to reset most of my passwords. I have some saved in Google Chrome but not all. I can't wear gloves due to severe nerve damage on most of my fingers that gloves make them extremely tingly.

I can't remember the password on my older computers since I always change them. It's just part of being human and one should never assume by default that there is foul play involved. I've noticed that the last decade or so people and businesses always assume the latter which is ridiculous. In the eye of everyone you're by default a criminal... what happened to our society.
