In this video I show how to repair a faulty UPVC door lock this particular door the barrel had slipped halfway rotation so that the key was upside down and would not remove when the door was locked or open.
Also how to remove or replace the locks if you wish
It is a very easy repair one that locksmiths do not want you to see.
you can buy new key locks from eBay or Amazon they are very easy to replace at a cost of less than £10

THANK YOU! This was exactly the fault with my door. I couldn't get the barrel out but shuggled it from both sides with the keys in and eventually got it in the correct position. No cost and a good deal of self satisfaction.

This has happened few times with our door. We do this without taking the handle and lock out. One person stands outside with key and other person inside. Put the keys in at same time and just turn them and wiggle them as shown in this video. After few attempts should resolve. Great video very well explained.

You, good sir, are an absolute legend and life saver! Only one thing to say was that I first of all thought that the black lever thing had to be totally at the 6 0'clock position and kept thinking i had it wrong because i could only take the keys out when it was slightly off centre. I then rewatched the video and noticed that this was actually the correct position for it to be in. But thank you, absolutely brilliant video!

Thank you for the video. I must say I would never have a key lock on the inside. Only a turn knob, in the event of an emergency you can exit quickly without fumbling for keys.

@@aaanton11 as a locksmith i can tell you that thumbturns are easily opened from outside with very little skill i personally wont have them on any external door on my home and i always advocate against them

Could you let me know how you did that please. As I am currently having trouble with the Back door lock. I unlocked a door from the outside that was locked on the inside and had keys stuck in it. I eventually got my keys out but I think the Lock is not working properly. Like I have to lock the door to get my key out now. The bars on the lock are acting the opposite way that they should be.

We tried this and it’s very important to point out that the barrel lock won’t necessarily be parallel as ours wasn’t doing that, we went to get a new lock only to realise the new lock (black bit in the middle) was not parallel either. It came out slightly to the left (from inside) So just make sure your key turns out despite it not being level.

Thanks for the video, I was all ready to dismantle and possibly replace the lock mechanism, saved me a lot of aggro and probably expense. I'll probably replace the lock cylinder anyway as I suspect that it might do it again, but these are relatively cheap and easy to do.

yes yes yes I wiggled the 2 keys as you suggested and it has worked No need to even buy a new barrel. As a woman Im so pleased I 've sorted it on my own with your help . many thanks !

Thanks for your vlog...It got me out of trouble when my wife and I left both keys in both locks and accidentally locked the door..from there on we couldn't remove the keys in the locked position..so once again..Many thanks.

Hi Ant, Thank you so much for the video. I had exactly the same problem and removed the three bolts that you removed to try and extract the barrel from the lock/door. For some reason I couldn't get the barrel out, but seeing the method you used to jiggle the keys from either end of the barrel I gave that a go with the barrel still in the lock/door. It worked ! Would never have been able to fix without your video showing me what the problem was and how to overcome it. Thanks again Ant.

Thank you for door lock video , last night our patio door lock went just like you showed on video, we had planed to call a lock smith out tomorrow, Following your advice with two keys I tried for some time with no success, Because my wife was nagging the way i was doing it , I said in frustration you do it then , My goodness she did it in about a minute 😃 not bad for a girl in her seventies, thanks again for your helpful advice which has saved us time and money. 👍

Many thanks, having spent a hour and half taking two doors apart I realised the door lock was out of sync, I was about to order a lock when I thought I'd check KZfaq for a solution. The fiddling of the keys seemed to be doing nothing and then it was all back in line, saved me the cost and hassle of ordering a new lock
