i really appreciate this online class. i’ve been fishing the big pond for about 15 years and was part of glf club in milwaukee til i moved to sheboygan in 2007. i been on my own just guessing what to use and fishing same old methods as a weekend only fisherman. being skunked more and more as the years progressed . i never knew about your channel till a few weeks ago and i’m so glad someone locally directed me to your channel and i can’t wait to visit your store for this year run!

Never dis-appointed with Russel sharing his wisdom and fine point on the techniques. I love the salmon candy flies an Angler avenue custom flashers when i found Russel's store year ago. I run my leads longer, so i can troll with spoons also at 2.5 to 2.7, but did not consider the exact fly action to be so critical as noted here, but it could be at certain times.

If weight is a concern, why not replace the beads with a piece of tubing? Dollar Store "Q-Tips" are made with plastic tubes, They are sold in several colors. Cut to desired length, burn the ends to make a "bugle" end, add to the set-up. I'd bet that four 8mm beads weigh more than the difference between a #2 treble and a 1/0 treble.

My logic for running a bit longer lead is that in an 8 hour fishing trip if your going 2.0 mph vs 2.5 that 4 miles of less water or area covered, and you need to find them cross path with the fish to catch them, and often they will take the offering even if its not perfect when the bite is on but less fish around or you need to locate them. my boat also surges with waves from 2.2 to 2.7, so fly action is constantly changing in a 20ft boat if its wavy.

good logic. I prefer to troll 1.8-2.0 for kings as I feel the big ones don't want to chase and you stay on the feeding fish longer going slower

I have a quick question. You mentioned you liked using vmc sparkpoint 4X size 2 treble hooks for your flies. My question is what trouble hook would you recommend to replace existing treble hooks on my favorite spoons. I mostly use mags dreamweavers, Northern Kings ,Pro Kings, Finn, Warriors ,and moonshine

Russell, I completely agree with length consistency. Years ago I used 28" leads on 8" flashers and always shot for 2.3mph at the ball. The last several years, I've been tying all 8" flasher leads 24". But, I've been shooting for 1.9 mph at the ball based on multiple guides/seminar discussions. My FF catch rate has dropped considerably!since I made these changes. So I have two questions. Do you think 1.9 with 24" is equal to the action of a 28" lead at 2.3? And secondly, do you think spoon action is effected by the 1.9 vs 2.3 speed differences? I always have a combination of FF and spoons and don't want to take away from my spoon catch rate trying to get back my FF success.

Your comparison of 1.9 with a 24" lead and 2.3 with a 28" lead is correct pick one and go with it. If you want to mix more spoons in spoons tend to preform better over 2.0 than under.

Was wondering if you could put together a video at the end of this series with color choices. More so cloudy flasher color vs. sunny day color. Maybe sunny day vs. cloudy day spoon colors also. Your personal go to colors maybe?

Russell do you always run a single treble hook with your flies? Do you see an advantage to the single treble hook over a tournament tie (i.e. a treble and a single hook above it), or two single hooks?
@RussellsFishingTech

David Walters I prefer a single treble for multiple reasons . I don’t like the way Fish come in on a tournament rig they tend to spin like a spinner and pull very hard I also think u get less bites on a tournament rig
