Hello, I am seriously considering getting my medical coder/billing cert! I just started looking into this but it sounds perfect for me. I am currently a surgical technologist full time, scrubbing all different surgeries/specialties on a daily basis. I am curious which program/brand I should go with and maybe which niche' you think you would recommend?? Surgical medical coder? Please let me know your thoughts!

Thanks for this. I'm currently in accredited RHIA program, set to graduate end of 2024. I am an AHIMA member. Our school is mostly AHIMA based, we use VLab during our coding classes and internships. I was actually introduced to your channel by my coding teacher. I have been a professional billing specialist at a major regional organization for almost 6 years, have no experience with facility billing. I see myself as a professional coder only b/c of my CPT experience in my billing position. All of my billing colleagues who have become coders are AAPC. Our community college, 2 year coding certification aligns with AAPC teaching and exams. All of this explanation to say I have NO IDEA which one to take. My plan is to take the test by end of year once I've gone back through the coding courses (currently in process). Advice, if possible? Thanks in advance.

Hello I just started looking into medical billing and did not know the expanse of options. Can you help me simplify what I should loot for please? I would like to center on certifications that I could learn on my own and then go and get my cert without paying for college, and I would like to focus on coding jobs that I can do at home. I’m thinking about Ahima. The last aapc cpc exam I took they forgot to grade E/M When I brought this up only 1% was added to my score. At this point I don’t trust the graders

Hi Victoria, If I were to purchase one of your courses that provides CEUs after completing it but don’t have my CPC yet, can I apply those CEUs to my CCA ? If I heard correctly in this video they accept that or no? I’m hoping by taking a couple of your courses it will give me that extra little boost/confidence to crush the CPC :) Thank you.

Yes, AHIMA accepts all AAPC CEUs. But you cannot aquire CEUs for your CPC until after your certification date.

Hi. Thank you for your video and advice. Can anyone tell me what would be a good choice to work from home/remotely, AHIMA CCA or AAPC CPC? I am homebound/restricted. Are there homebased openings and opportunities immediately after getting certified? Anyone please let me know, I would be grateful. I was a doctor physician many years ago in Asia and now live in California for over 10 years now so any advice related to location or experience or healthcare would also be helpful. I could not pursue medical residency.

No guarantee you will be able to work remote right away. Companies need to trust you first. Usually your accuracy has to be on point before you are offered remote work.

Yes -- a lot of medical coders work from home.

@@kaitim7750 if you work for an American country, regardless what you do, you are almost always paid based on the salary market where you live. I work in a remote healthcare company with employees all over the world and the one in the Philippians makes 1/2 what i make per hour, due to the difference in cost of living. You will also still pay all of the taxes in your own country. There are many taxes and laws in America and working for an American company wont bypass those laws here or wherever you live. You will most likely be paid as you normally would in Greece, but simply work for an American company. Many people see the pay in one country and think they will make that same amount, then also have no taxes because they dont live there. The pay is based on cost of living. They pay much more in switzerland than the US for many jobs but that is because it costs a lot more to live there. The only way around that is to live in the US, get a job, then move. However, they will fine you and take your job and you will owe a lot when they find out as it is income fraud. Dont ever go to school looking for a job based on pay in another country. Base it on jobs available where you live. Unless you live in the US, you will not make the same amount. Many people i work with feel that is unfair but it is not, it costs more to live here, we need more per hour. It wouod not be fair someone can work abroad and be basically rich for the same job, while the others are barely paying bills. It is all relevant. The base pay in any country is based on the cost of living and economy. Any country that pays a lot- means it costs a lot to live there and vice versa. You wont ever get a US salary, unless you live in the US, for basically any job. If you ever did, you would be extremely fortunate. I would never invest with that hope, though. Hopefully there is coding work in Greece, or another field for you. Even making different pay per hour, with the laws and taxes the company pay, many only hire in the country and some only hire remote workers in the same state.

I am 58 years old, due to caretaking for disabled family members for last 10 years, I obtained my CPC thru AAPC 2004. In 2012 my membership expired with AAPC. I have been out of the field in which I had 20 years of experience in medical coding and billing till 2012. I am thinking of getting back into that field now, however I don't know where to start, I am pretty sure my last 10 years not working, I know in fact that I am passed up for jobs now in that field, where should I go from this point.?

I will be finishing up my HIM program in December and plan to sit for the RHIT exam. Would you recommend that I get the CCS over the CPC since the RHIT credential would already be with AHIMA?

I would do a CCS next, because if you do a CPC you will have to pay membership fees to two organizations.

AHIMA has horrible customer service. I bought VLAB with CIOX Coding Gym Access and it doesn't work. I called and emailed for two months and they just gave me the run-around, and nobody seems to care. I'm amazed with how apathetic they are, and unethical (selling products that don't work). Hopefully I can get a refund.

My question is should I just take the training for the CPC then the CPC Exam or do the bundled training for both CPC and CPB and take both exams? Thanks. I'm curious about this as well. My college program seems to have a whole semester dedicated to billing and then one to coding, but I see no mention of the CPB like there is on the AAPC website and program listings. They only mention the CPC.

@@tracyhaga19 CPC. The CBCS is not widely accepted by employers for coding positions -- only some pockets here and there. Schools promote the CBCS a lot, I'm suspecting because they have some sort of deal with the NHA.

Hey Victoria, I'm feeling so discouraged lately. I've been taking the AAPC online course for several months now and I have barely made it to the halfway mark! I have one month left till it closes. I have knowledge in anatomy and some background working in medical billing. So I don't find the content itself that difficult to comprehend, just A LOT and not enough time to finish. I am one of those who feel so compelled to learn everything before I move on... I know thats bad! Any tips or advice? I would greatly appreciate! BTW love your content!
