Medical Coding is converting of diagnoses and procedures into numerical and alphanumerical codes. Medical Coding is done for reimbursement purposes mainly for US Healthcare. ICD-10, CPT-4, & HCPCS codes are used.

This is very good question you've asked Lejo. CPC certification has to be reviewed every year & it costs $170. Due to HIPAA compliance company for which you are working will renew it since your company is getting benefit from your certification by getting more clients. In case you are not working as a Medical Coder you'll have to renew your certification by your own, however, if you join any company within 6 months of renewal that particular company will reimburse you as HIPAA compliance mandate.

If one want to get a job in medical coding then he should get training from any institution firstly, then have to appear for CPC test by spending 700 dollars then he is eligible to work in a medical coding firm. These are my understanding from my research on medical coding, if I'm wrong please do me correct. Doesn't it seems to be costly and lengthy process to get a job? Freshers like me who are interested to start career in coding, seems to be little tough if they don't have resources.

You should join a proper training center. It’s not advisable to train yourself as Medical Coding is a vast subject and your preparation should be focused on clearing your examination. Since CPC exam cost $710, hence your training should focus on clearing the exam.

Since you are already in US Healthcare, you can do Medical Coding easily. Account Receivable process is related to denials management and forms an integral part of Revenue Cycle Management RCM process. Your process is interrelated to Medical Coding.

In CPC-A, A stands for apprentice meaning that although you are a certified coder you are fresher. A is removed after showing two years of experience.

Sumit, CPC certification is valid till one year, after that you have to renew membership by paying $180. If you are working as a Medical Coder, this amount will be paid by company Or If you are not working and has renewed your membership then if you get job as a Medical Coder within 6 months, that particular company will reimburse you this amount. Hi. Thank you for your video and advice. Can anyone tell me what would be a good choice to work from home/remotely, AHIMA CCA or AAPC CPC? I am homebound/restricted. Are there homebased openings and opportunities immediately after getting certified? Anyone please let me know, I would be grateful. I was a doctor physician many years ago in Asia and now live in California for over 10 years now by the way so any advice related to location would also be helpful. I could not pursue medical residency and missed that opportunity because I'm a very old graduate and I am pretty sure no residency program will accept me. I am middle aged and have long gaps in employment as well as various changing jobs.
