This is also from my long-time transcription wish list. Aaron Parks, the modern master nails it on Cole Porter standard "I love you", during his duet live with another master George Garzone in Mezzrow NY.
His haunting melody lines, rhythmic ideas and outside playing never ceased to excite me during the process of transcription: I literally enjoyed every second transcribing this!
Speaking of "outside playing", I could have written analysis and outside chords that I assume what Aaron was thinking of, yet I decided not to do so and instead notated the original chord progression to not cause unnecessary confusion by my mediocre analysis with short knowledge.
I'll be damned if I do not give the following honorable mention. This transcription and the video of this amazing concert would not be existing without 呂輪胎CHI-LIN LU, who took the video of (almost) entire concert, and this man deserves credit and appreciation. Following is the original link to the concert's first video(although not being the first part, it is named as the 1st video), which has a full "I love you" and part of "Reinventing the Wheel(Parks)". I highly recommend you check all the videos of this concert, they are all fantastic.

Link to the original video: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/b7eYZbF71cirqXk.html& Link to the pdf purchase: www.mapianist.com/sheet/116000?query=aaron%20parks&page=1&sortType=relevant (6,000KRW, $5.45) As I mentioned in the details, I intentionally notated chord, based on the original chord progression of the tune that is on my Real Book vol.1. There are plenty of reharmonizations but most of them are tritone substitutions or V of V or both, and others are outside playing. Hope you enjoy!

Great job with the transcription! I'm being a bit pedantic but one thing you missed out is the held notes he often does in the middle of lines, like for example the E natural in bar 2 and the A at the start of bar 7. It's really an important part of that Paul Bley and Keith Jarrett sound so I thought I'd mention it. Awesome job anyway!

Thanks for the kind comment! I agree that I overlooked the importance of phrasing and held notes, definitely will try to catch those next time!

Wow, I've been learning Aaron Parks lately and didn't realize you transcribed it! I know a lot of musicians who play great that study Aaron Parks, and many have heard this duet recorded by 呂輪胎 CHI-LIN LU(輪胎 means tires of a car haha.). I feel that Aaron is a bit like Keith, or maybe they both have some connection to Paul Bley. As Paul used to do, they go out of harmony with their own logic, and the phrasing is extremely beautiful and modern! His single lines are very ethereal and give a desire for extreme musical beauty that is open to interpretation.

rofl "Tires of a car"? I always thought it was a name of the person! I agree his play has connection to Paul Bley. Imo Aaron definitely has that unique, original yet so appealing melody and phrasings like Paul did.

interesting - a lot of this is more or less straight out of jarrett's rendition of this tune on "solo tribute"

Really? Although I had the opportunity to listen to the recording and read the transcription of it thanks to Michael Lucke, I can't see it for now... could you elaborate?

@@snoopy_next_door kzfaq.info/get/bejne/hLiAlsuf18CsmGw.html&ab_channel=moom1000 I am referring to this version. Aaron is clearly strongly influenced by it and there are many moments where he more or less quotes a lick from Keith - I imagine that Aaron took the time to study/transcribe/learn by ear himself at some point, since he is open about being very strongly influenced by Keith and studying his work very carefully

@jmarvins kzfaq.info/get/bejne/iat9h9aJrtu9l4U.htmlsi=X_4K8yjmc7IdQfaa And this is the Michael Lucke transcription of the Keith's version you mentioned. I actually had the opportunity to study this version before transcribing Aaron's version. Personally, I don't quite see that Aaron had such clear distinguishable quotes or straight off part taking from Keith's version. Some reharmonizations and lines, patterns may appear in both but I think those are just bop languages, shared by many. I think their modern feel and phrasing have high similarities, and I sure believe Aaron studied Keith a lot in his phrasing or so, and maybe this version as well, but I don't see such a string connection you meant. Maybe can you be more specific so that I could understand?
