Northern Australia doesn't have DST because it's closer to the equator and the hours of dark/light don't vary that much. The southern half has DST because it gives everybody extra daylight in the evenings after work, to relax, get to the beach etc. Bit of a waste being light at 5am, when most people are still sleeping!

The higher the population being unvaccinated the longer it will take to eradicate covid and the more likely to produce different variants which could lead to even more deaths.

Actually, we want to keep DST. Standard time is great at the equator, but for latitudes that the US is in, it gets dark far too soon on standard time. To the point where you're leaving work in the dark during the winter months. DST may force you to wake up earlier (in the daylight, btw) but you also have an entire evening in the light as well. It's the time change that's frustrating, not DST itself.

That's not been an issue, the issue is thanks to the mandates the hospitals have been short staffed so less medical staff than usual to tend the patients. Now hospitals are also seeing more and more people with vaccine side effects, or infected vaccinated, or people with other miscellaneous ailments who put off going to the hospital because they didn't want to be exposed to covid AT the hospital.
