This arrangement was all Angelina's, just a year after winning Norway's Got Talent. You saw her writing on a piece of paper and the producer reading it and smiling. He said in a later interview, that she is always very polite, and she made some last minute changes which she referred to as "her wishes". This tribute to the original artist that wrote and sang the song in 1956, "Screamin' Jay Hawkins" who was on the candle you saw. The band affectionately referred to Angelina as "The Boss" because she knew exactly what she wanted and how she wanted it done. Many have said they think this video should end up in the music archives because of how great it is. With over 10 million views and 143k likes, I would say others would agree.

@@brodie6222, That is why I like the arrangement at the end of this compilation so much. Starting at the 6:05 mark, it goes back and forth with Hawkins and then Angelina, and she stays real close to him, but "refines" it to more of a Jazz/Blues song, rather than the version that he made popular when he was drunk. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/aq59Zs59nKmpk4U.html

Sorry but it is a complete myth. she was writing the words and the way to sing it. She didn't know to write music at this age she went to music school after 10 and she barely can now play piano (look at videos when she play) and guitar (look at the House of rising sun video). And dont mistaken I'm an absolute Angelina Fan but she is not Mozart and know how to write or arrange music...
@SimonWilliams0
@SimonWilliams0 Жыл бұрын
@@fredt7518 I think the truth is somewhere in the middle, and depends on what you would call arrangement. I believe for example that her wishes included her calling out to the band and them responding. She has shown on multiple occasions that she does direct changes, but I don't think anyone is suggesting she writes detailed musical arrangement, nor that she is in any way like Mozart. She is intensely creative vocally, and innately understands the musical context.

@@brodie6222 Bah ... I listened to the original and its cover seems different to me in different passages. Same operation he did with Rhapsody at AGT. Her ability demonstrated in her re-arrangements of California Dreamin ', done in the living room accompanied on guitar by Ivan Mendez and many other homemade covers. Angelina from what I understand, disassembles and reassembles the songs according to her artistic goal. To FredT I say, maybe it won't be Mozart, but ... we are close to it.

Elvis Presley, when he was not in front of a camera, a microphone, or a crowd, was typically shy as well, except with family & close friends. He had that "on/off" switch. Angelina Jordan, apparently, is exactly like that as well. Both true performers, true professionals!

I have never witnessed anyone who actually hears Angelina that doesn't become an instant fan of hers. So why is she not as popular as some others today? It's because she's not being promoted - on purpose. She's only 16 - and her parents want her to have as normal a childhood as is possible before she gets pushed into the world through the heavy marketing arms of the entertainment industry. Her signing with Republic Records has that spelled out in her contract. I haven't heard when the promoting will start, but I assume sometime between now and when she graduates from high school (she'll just be a few months into her 18th year then). No one that loves her wants Angelina to have the wrong influences applied too soon. She's amazing - and worth the protection today. Soon enough, Angelina will be a household name, like the GOATs that she routinely covers.

Angelina sustains amazement throughout this entire performance. She's so consistently surprising -- and her exquisite vocal experimentation is so continually unexpected -- that her performances are mesmerizing. You feel that if you stop watching one of her videos in an attempt to process what you've just seen, you'll miss the next vocal vault. Angelina never allows you to process -- she's already three measures ahead.

Yes, the name really does LITERALLY say it all. If you look at the etymology of each name, and put it all together, her full name actually means "an angel (Angelina) descending (Jordan) from the stars (Astar)"! Her name is as incredible as she is. I mean, what are the odds of the name, the person, and the talent all fusing together into one?

I love this performance so much. As they say AJ don't play. Well perhaps this is what she does when she does play and we get the most stunning, amazing performance of a 9 yr old of this Jazz standard ever created. I believe it is going to go down in Jazz & Music history as the best ever for this age and in my opinion the best rendition of this song ever created Screamin Jay included. It will be revisited for Decades and will remain relevant for Generations to come. Anyone who discovers this performance for the first time today or a 100 years from today are going to be as amazed and astounded as everybody has been to this point. Think of the children who will be inspired by this one performance in the decades to come. This is an Iconic performance and will always be Iconic. Angelina has on her own from early on at 6 or 7 yrs old reintroduced what I believe will be a whole new Jazz Era and redefined by this young phenom and prodigy. That is astounding! And she is just 16 years old... That is unfathomable!... Oh Lord... what is coming the world is not prepared for but we as fans have been on the edge of our seats and will remain there as we wait. No hurry. We want Angelina to do it her way when she is ready. She has already established her proficiency and incredible work ethic in this endeavor guided by an incredible family and professional support now surrounding her. We know Angelina will continue to amaze! We will be here to experience and cherish it for as long as we live.... and I am praying for many more years for myself to enjoy it till the end of my days... I hope to go out of this world listening to the most beautiful voice ever created for man just as Angelina came into it to fulfill her purpose, what she was put on earth to do, sing for the whole World... and Me! To me Angelina is always singing to me transporting me to that beautiful place she inhabits when she sings and to experience it with her. She has the ability to touch hearts and souls and change lives. She has the ability to change lives on a personal level and the power to change lives on a global scale. To me no one compares. You just watched a Masterpiece! Destined to go down in Music History as the best performance by a 9 yr old, Period! Past, present & dare I say Future! I'd like to see anyone, young or old who can do a cover of this & with the justice it deserves as Angelina has done on every cover she does. ♥👣👸🏻

This performance is not fake- it is entirely real - Angelina was 9 years old in this performance -This song was not arranged for her - she wrote the arrangement based after listening to the original Screamin' Jay Hawkins version - in fact, at the beginning of the video you see Angelina writing down some last-minute changes and it is read by the bandleader. You also notice that her own handwritten notes are on the music stand in front of her as she sings. For more insight on how Angelina works, here is a rehearsal video with the same band at the same age (9 yrs old) - You will see that she is aware of what each musician is doing and gives them some instructions. There are English subtitles as the spoken language is Norwegian: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/iaebjadyvbClZHk.html

Angelina was 9 years and 2 months old when she performed this song. It is her tribute to Screamin' Jay Hawkins, who wrote and performed the song in 1956. She based her arrangement on his original performance, although she discarded all the theatrics and allowed her voice and body language to tell the story. The song has been covered by many singers over the years, but to my knowledge, Angelina is the only one who has sung in the same style as the original. Things I found particularly worthy of note in this video are (a) Angelina finishing writing last minute changes she wanted and handing them to the Music Director, who smiled. (b) A brief glimpse of Mery Zamani, Angelina's maternal grandmother, a well known and respected Iranian Artist and poet who was also a child prodigy. She was the person who recognised Angelina's talent at an early age and exposed her to all the old time jazz singers. (c) The candle with an image of Screamin' Jay Hawkins on it. (d) The smile on the face of the Bass player. (e) How she rose on to her toes on the last occasion she sang "...because you're mine" (f) The fact she occasionally refers to her written notes on the music stand (g) The instant transformation from "performance" mode to that of a pensive child, possibly wondering whether she could have done better. I comment on the "pensive" child because Angelina has an incredible work ethic and seeks to perform every song in a way she considers will bring out all the emotions within the lyrics and melody. Angelina has been referred to as the "Queen of Jazz", "The Barefoot Princess", "The girl with a thousand voices". All of them are true, but I prefer the nickname I gave her after listening to about six of her performances. For me, she is "The Chameleon of Song", for as a chameleon is able to change its colour to match its surroundings, so Angelina is able to change the "colour" of her voice to accurately match the needs of the song to reveal the emotions within the lyrics and melody. Even more remarkable is her innate ability to communicate those same emotions to her listeners.

Then, when the music is done, we can actually SEE her quietly reverting from being a musical prodigy, back to being an unassuming, even shy little 9-year old girl. In this case, we can literally see her contemplating which parts of the performance she could improve...

Man. I really LOVE your reactions to Angelina. You are definitely among my very favorite reactors now, for what it's worth 🙂 Awesome that you got around to check this masterpiece out. At 9 years 2 months. Must be the most amazing performance by a 9 year old girl ever. When she reaches the fame that she WILL, I guess this one will go down in the history books in a big way. I'm not sure if I have given you any suggestions before, but I will this time. When Angelina was 10 years old she did a studio recording, a demo, of a song called "I'm Still Holding Out For You." This performance sits comfortably on most of her fans' top 5 list, many have it even higher. It's a different type of song, a much more mature song if you will, also lyrics wise, and Angelina totally NAILED it. And just let me tell you that if you didn't know her age before listening, you'd not in a billion years be able to guess, it is just THAT good. If she could do THAT at age 10, there really is no limit as to what she can do in the future. I know you will agree :-) Here is the link : kzfaq.info/get/bejne/etxooM10zZvNmXk.html Enjoy! Jesse, very nice reaction to Angelina and her performance and your general comments, as well. One thing which needs to be put on the table is that she hasn't been officially marketed to the world yet. Her popularity is on you tube and other social media outlets. Within the next 12 months she will be, in my opinion, full speed ahead. You will hear her on radio stations in Countries all over the world, making many appearances on TV, albums galore with a lot of original material and a Concert tour which will give everyone the chance to "feel" her magic live and won't that be the ultimate experience!!? Republic Records has adhered to the family's wishes of keeping her 'low key' until she finishes her education and enjoying life as a teenage girl. But, you have to believe they are "ready to go" whenever they get the word. I know the industry gets a bad rap for caring about the almighty dollar instead of individuals but in this case, Republic, like most of us, understand Angelina is more, much more than just a wonderful singer. The people she has touched already will tell you that in their own words. "Views?" There will come a time when EVERYONE in the world will know who Angelina Jordan is. Besides jumping all over her original, new material, those precious 'old' video's will be seen by the masses over and over again. Am I overly optimistic? I don't think so. Use yourself as an example. Once you discovered her look what has happened to you. You say things about her (as a very young girl!) you can't believe what you're saying !!! And, so will that happen to people around the world who have yet to discover her. Jesse, she has no boundaries: Gender, age, color, religion, musical preference, it doesn't make any difference. Once they hear her, AND FEEL HER LOVE TOUCH THEIR HEART, well, I think that's a good place to leave it. Take care.

Very nice to put her socials in your subscription and such. The world needs more of her singing! I simply wish upon others all the good her music does to me. Yes this an incredible performance! :-) She was inspired by the version by Screaming Jay Hawkins, the guy on the candle (a visual shout out). All the pieces fit perfectly. The visuals are gorgeous, all the musicians are amazing and her singing is out of this world. The page she gave to the director where some last changes to the arrangement she made. She was lovingly called the little boss, but is not bossy, just knows what she wants. If you want to do Fly me to the Moon, you could do a double with first this older one from the American show the View and this version from when she was 12 and Quincy Jones asked her to sing on his birthday part: Fly me to the moon - rehearsal for Quincy Jones: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/hbObqtKiurSym3k.html He said she was the biggest talent since Michael Jackson.

💗💗💗 Great reaction and comment... all of her years were great ones, from the very first to her current seventeenth... but that's just an addition to what you said, as her 10th, 11th and 9th year as you had it were certainly great as well as any other... :) - just go on with whatever you feel like, maybe because you love the song, or are curious about a title, anything you can connect to, she will not disappoint you and always exceed your expectations, that's one beautiful thing about Angelina, you can always be sure to get a piece of exquisite art, wonderful singing, beautiful tone, great emotional performance, yet you never know what you'll get... Just keep them coming... 💗💗💗

You've said many good things! You can count me in as a new subscriber! A judge in Norway's Got Talent once said to Angelina: _"You ARE music"_ I think that statement couldn't describe better what kind of artist Angelina is. This performance of "I put a spell on you" showed it too once again: the music flows through Angelina's body, she feels the music with her entire body, she becomes one with music. I have high hopes for this vocalist in the future!

Your first thought that this is false, that it can't be real, I think a large majority of reactors had it the first time they heard it, and it's not surprising, because everything, absolutely everything in this video seems absurd, ridiculous, irrational. Then you see other videos when she was 8, 9, 10 years old, and you understand that we are dealing with someone with an inexplicable, supernatural talent. Why does the best music video ever (IMHO), only have a ridiculous 10 million views? (and that thanks to 'word of mouth', because some of hers wonderful performances don't even reach a million) Simple, you know that what is not advertised, does not sell, and her professional promotion is momentarily prohibited by her family, let's hope, for the sake of music, that they soon leave Republic Records hands free.

Jesse, the next reaction needs to be AJ doing Bohemian Rhapsody on AGT when she was 13 yrs old. Just an FYI, Brian May from Queen, tweeted immediately after seeing the performance saying "this was hands down the most original and breathtaking version of the song he had ever heard and the band gave Angelina herself a special dispensation to the rights of her version of Bohemian Rhapsody for distribution and personal compensation. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/p6xgfbljndzLfKs.html Or if you'd like her latest release of "Suspicious Mind". It's a beautiful unique arrangement of an Elvis classic that still pays homage to the King and his 1968 Christmas comeback special. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/iLqSfsucyMu2YGQ.html either of these will blow your mind. cheers

Hawkins - I think her grandma bought it at a concert in Tokyo ;) At 0:26 you can see the bassist smiling - I can imagine that he smiles about the expectable reactions of the listeners in the moment, when Angelina starts to sing at 0:30 ;-) Btw. I read somewhere that her grandma was in person at a concert of SJH in Japan (as she, AJs mother and uncle lived there some years - AJs grandpa is Japanese) and there AJs grandma bought this candle as a souvenir ;) ...I hope this story isn't a HOAX :)) Thanks a billion again for your reaction! … and see you soon with your next AJ reactions - with greetings from Berlin/Germany :-D Best regards Andreas 😎

Welcome fellow angel! It is obvious you have fallen down this rabbit hole big time, and the truth is you likely will never want to get out! Here is a link from ages 6 to 16 to all her 200+ chronological performances, including five originals. These encompass additional performances to those on her channels. m.kzfaq.info/sun/PL2v8kgVeo4EbYDVnRwObjETfWpXbzbgIO I know you were questioning why Angelina does not have more subscribers at this point in time. The major reason is that her family has stated that they would protect her from the industry until she is older and graduates School. So not too much longer. She was signed by Republic records a couple of years ago and it was with the understanding that they could not promote her until they were ready also. In the interim, I and many fans have been actively involved in promoting her as well as we can until the big release happens. You are doing a great job encouraging your viewers. I will add a bit of information though. Not only is it about subscribing to her Channel, but it is also about boosting her KZfaq analytics. The way to do this is for you to mention to your viewers to watch her original video till the end, like, comment, share, and then subscribe to her Channels, including social media. We have hundreds of reactors participating and need many more. The more we all get the word out the better because she deserves it, not only for her professional career, but to recognize Angelina the humanitarian. Peace.

I watched until now almost every performance of Angelina that can be found on KZfaq (over 300!) and I found only one, where I didn't like Angelina's interpretation, namely when she sings "It's Magic" (from her album with the same name she released when she was 12 -> kzfaq.info/get/bejne/e9dni9Be2sDMqac.html). I think that her tone in that song is too grave and not suited for the song. However, from a technical point of view, her performance is flawless.

I've mused in the past about what performances are her "least impressive" (shall we say). It's actually almost as hard to come up with that list as a list of her _most_ impressive performances. Because it's a very subjective and "multifaceted" thing. I mean, for instance, take the handful of videos (or two handfuls) we have of her singing before she went on _Norske Talenter_ [Norway's Got Talent]: if any performance of hers is going to "get a no" from you, it's probably going to be one of those. Some are better than others, of course, but it can't be denied that in many of them, she has "objectively poor" pitch control (as one would expect from a very young child). And yet, even in those performances, there are "positives" to be found that hint at the greatness that was to come - mostly having to do with the "artistic" and "emotional" aspects of her singing ("making the song her own", "singing with feeling", and so forth). It would take too long to explain exactly what I'm referring to, so I'll be more "indirect" about it: People in the comments (on reactions to her more recent stuff) say things like, "She doesn't sing songs, she sings emotions." IMO, it's less of an "active" thing and more "experiential", so to speak: an Angelina Jordan performance is (almost always) an invitation not just to hear her singing a song but to witness her _feeling_ a song. And the same thing could be said about much of her very early stuff (although, granted, in a kind of "primordial" form). Even in her _very first_ performance - that is, the very first time she was caught on camera singing, at home, at 1½ - she (seemingly) was "singing with feeling". (A short clip of this occurs 1 min 52 sec into this TV segment, which aired just before the live semifinal round of NGT: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/aquApLmn0c-pZ30.html [turn on English captions]. You might as well react to the whole thing, though. I think it's worth it.) Anyway… returning to that ominous "list" that I alluded to, since I feel like it's a bit unfair to use performances from before she could sing especially well (consistently, anyway), I'll limit myself to a couple of post-NGT performances that I feel are "not her best work": * kzfaq.info/get/bejne/f5yDqpigqbiXj3U.html "I Got You (I Feel Good)" [James Brown], live on stage at age 9, at the Hemnes Boat & Fjord Festival, 2015-06-28 * kzfaq.info/get/bejne/aq96q8mG25OpZ2g.html "If You Go Away" [Jacques Brel], recorded at home, probably when she was 11, sung over a karaoke track The first one here is not a _bad_ performance, necessarily. In fact, many people love it. To me, it just lacks a certain amount of "control" necessary to prevent the "wildness" she was going for from tipping over into… I don't know… "sloppiness"? I think everyone would agree that there's a big difference between a young child "trying to" sing like an older person, and one successfully doing so. Angelina from 8 onwards (well, until she ceased to be a "young" child) was almost always an example of the latter. In this one, she sounds to me too much like the former. And that bugs me. As for the second one, my problem with that is not lack of control or precision, or anything. It's the emotion she's trying to convey. I'm not buying it. Again, this is something that she's usually _extremely_ good at, but not because she's "trying to" communicate emotion (IYKWIM). Like I was saying before, she basically "feels the song" and, if you're paying attention, you pick up on that. That's what it usually seems like to me, anyway. I'm not saying that when she does that successfully she's not intentionally "doing things" that she knows will convey emotion (most notably, various forms of vocal fry), but, for whatever reason, the way she's doing it in "If You Go Away" just doesn't work for me. It seems "mannered" and "stagey". Interestingly, the Wikipedia article for Jacques Brel says that he composed and performed "theatrical" songs (among other descriptors). So, that might be the root of my problem with this one. She's singing in a "theatrical" style that I don't appreciate. I could cite a few other performances that I have various sorts of "issues" with, but I have to say, given that I've heard literally _hundreds_ of her performances ("damn near everything" that's available on YT), the fact that the number of them that I could criticize in any significant way is probably below two dozen (most of those being from her pre-NGT days) gives her an _incredibly_ high "batting average".
