In Detroit area "upstands" are on all shower trays and mounted to the studs before installing wall boards maybe there's a void but they don't leak usually leaks are at the strainer connection due to lack of mortar base below the tray or crummy connection skills

I fill between the edge of the tray and wall with silicon whist fitting the tray, after set I then run a bead around the top corner prior to tiling. Then use a water resistant tile adhesive. Haven't had one leak yet.

Abacus needs to post on her and on the skill builder channel, to be transparent and make people aware they need to make sure this is cool and not warm. As a lot of the reviews for this are saying taking the backing board off is an arse. They must of been aware of this so we never see Roger ever have issues.

I recently installed a shower tray and enclosure and experienced leaks, i had actually tiled the walls down to the floor and this was one of the reasons why i wasn't getting a good seal and after repeated re sealing with silicone sealant i went onto the internet to find a solution, i came across the "No more leaks" product and this is by far the best product i have ever sourced to cure a leak problem, i decided to apply low modular silicone around the edge of the tray and when cured i then installed the no more leaks seal, i then installed UPVC trim around the shower tray fixing with clear silicone and once all cured i sealed around the trim, the shower tray is now successfully sealed and i would like to thank Abacus for manufacturing a brilliant product and not to forget Roger bisby for such an excellent KZfaq installing demonstration and i would advice anyone to view the video before installing this product.

If you're fitting wall tiles less than 10mm thick, then this product just isn't worth bothering with. First you'll have to trim a few mm off, otherwise you'll see it poking out underneath your wall tiles. Doing this but keeping a consistent depth along the full 2metre length is near impossible. If you managed to trim it, your next challenge is that most shower trays have a round / beveled top corner. This means that you're only going to get 1-2 mm overlapping the shower tray. When you consider the adhesive on this isn't sticky or thick, I don't see this adding any substantive extra sealing capability over good quality low modulus silicone. If it were thicker, then maybe it would work, but that would push your tiles up too much. Next, factor in that the tape comes pre-creased just to increase installation difficulty. The backing tape separates from the adhesive where the product was folded rather than rolled for the packaging. Result of this exposure to air means some areas of the tape have zero stickiness remaining. This means if water does find its way behind your tiles, this weak spot will fill with water, which may then break the remaining bond and render the tape useless. Ultimately I decided the potential extra sealing capability offered wasn't worth the potential problems it introduces, so I'm going old school and using a good quality low modulus silicone between the tray and walls, and then between the bottom of the tiles and tray. Done properly having installed plumb, true and square waterproof backer board of some kind will not let you down, and save you purchasing a very expensive wallpaper seam roller

I’ve installed No More Leaks 3 years ago and I checked under my shower today and I was disappointed to note that there appears to be leaks and water under the shower coming from the edges alongside where the no more leaks tape is. It is Fibo shower board on top and I’ve removed the silicon which even after 3 years was in poor condition so I’m replacing that. However, I thought the point of no more leaks is if the silicon failed then no more leaks would stop any water creeping past the sill. I’m gutted and wondering what I can now do other than replace the silicon but I now know that below the silicon there isn’t an effective water barrier

If it's a bath that I'm fitting, the rim is supported on a batten screwed & glued to the wall so vertical movement of the rim against the wall is virtually impossible. Then overfill the gap between the tray/bath & the wall with silicon (having first made sure the edge of the tray/bath is really clean & grease free) then run a plastic scraper or rubber grout float along the joint flat to the bath & angled against the wall such that the slight excess of silicon is smeared up the wall by 30-50mm to create a waterproof upstand. Then I fit a simple L profile bath seal trim, sadly the only decent ish on I can find these days is from Wickes (genesis used to do a really good one for under or over tiles) that is meant to go on after tiling but I put it on before to create a 2nd upstand & seal it to the tray/bath with silicon & clean any excess away with wonderwipes. Then tile with 3mm gap between the tile & the trim which I fill with GROUT. This gives a very effective seal with no silicon visible within the shower or bath area that can go mouldy. If the water gets past the flexible edge of the trim strip, it then has to get past the silicon that bonds the strip to the bath/tray AND then has to get past the silicon that seals the tray to the wall. So far, in about 20 years of fitting baths & showers, I've never heard of one of mine leaking, or going mouldy.

Bought this and hope it will provide an extra line of defence on top of cladseal and silicone. Be aware it’s really fiddly and takes patience to fit as it’s so tacky. The backing tape doesn’t want to come off cleanly and the blu-tac like material sticks to it and stretches, making it harder to fit.

Looks a bit like the Tyvek stretch tape used to make window and door sill pans. Horrible stuff and even the act of peeling off the backing tape distorts the tape and never returns back to shape.

This is great, I'm doing a shower tray exactly the same way (abacus boards etc) however this tape doesn't go on anywhere near as easy as Roger makes it look. First off the adhesive itself sticks the the backing paper that well, you can't actually get the thing off, then when you do (I had to use a stanly knife to get it going) the paper keeps ripping and your left with small sections of paper that you have to then pick at (again with a stanly knife) to get going again, this happened at least 10 times. Then trying to get it to stay 10mm on the shower tray is another very, very difficult task. All in all, I felt sick doing this supposedly simple task. I might have received a faulty one, who knows, but I do know it didn't go anywhere near as easy as this vid makes it look.

The tape is certainly not as easy to apply as shown in this video and it is difficult to ensure you get the correct amount on the shower tray. I also found that some of the backing paper did not come of easy. For this I followed the advice of another poster and put the tape in the fridge for 10 mins and this solved the problem. I also had to take a Stanley blade and trim parts of the tape where it was slightly further out on the shower tray than it should have been. Once stuck the tape does feel very secure. I too wonder what will happen to the tape if the silicone sealant needs changing in a time to come. I suppose using a waterproof non mould sealant will hopefully mean this is a long way off. I know firms want to sell their products , hence the really easy to apply video. It would be a different story if we got 20 people with different DIY skills levels to apply it.

Don’t use the seals that go in front of the tiles what they do is keep the water behind where you can’t see it, they’re a shocking idea. As in this video you need to get your protection right behind the tile. Is your silicone breaking down due to water coming from behind ? If so that needs addressing or is it not taking because the surface isn’t clean ?

Do a proper job: three lines of defence. First the seal between the tray and the tiles - use a good sealant, the hack-out & replaced it when gaps appear or it ages. Second (if the first fails) a tape system like the one in the vid. Third (if the tape fails or a crack emerges somewhere) a complete waterproof sub-tray e.g. fiberglass/resin with a drain that will drip in a visible place if water ever reaches it. Silicon only suitable for stable gaps but bath tub or shower tray even if secured properly to the floor and the walls will move when loaded with weight of a person plus water, not forgetting hot water and high pressure shower heads will find the smallest of gaps for water to leak through. Silicon is overrated material used from sealing double glazing to wet areas but rarely lasts long.

I’m worried either there won’t be enough of a lip to seal properly, or it will be visible when the tile is fitted, making caulking difficult. Any tips from those who have used this before? (I got the 4m kit for a bath, with x2 corner pieces. Tiles are only 5mm thick).

If you really need to use waterproof tile backing board, you need to improve your tiling & grouting skills first, waterproof backing is a good belt & braces approach but grout is the most important and first line of defence, if water gets past the grout, the job has technically failed.

Never had a callback on bathroom installs in 40yrs: Some tips below for the correct silicone sealant method. 1. Fix all items firmly and correctly. 2. Most Important! Use a recommended solvent cleaner on all areas to be sealed. 3. Always use the correct sealant for conditions, sanitary for sanitary... 4. Never apply sealant to/over dry/drying sealant, apply in one. 5. Allow 24hrs before use.

You said this was difficult to work with. You are not joking. It is almost impossible to make a good job of fitting

I'm not tempted by this product, it looks very fiddly, I wouldn't trust the self adhesive bond to the tray and it still means silicon on show in the shower area to go mouldy

Filling a bath with water before you tile 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 just finish the tiling then screw the feet down one or two more turns to push the bath up tight against the tiles.

yes, BUT the adhesive tanking tape is EXTREMELY difficult to apply without making a pig's ear of the job. Looks so easy but it's not.!!

Why have you changed the product Abacus?? I swore by this product on my bathrooms but you've now made it less tacky so doesn't adhere to the shower tray as good. Won't be buying again!
