I don't know why the owners didn't save this one. Throw new shingles on, replace a few windows, paint the siding and redo the porches. The basement is dry. I found the phone number of a person who used to live here. I'm seriously debating calling them up and asking what happened with the fire in the attic.

People saying they can't believe these houses are abandoned...well my dad died, and my four sister's wanted to sell the 120 acres that he had with a little house on it, that they never went to...so we sold 40 and I bought the 80 with the house....some people just don't give a dam, their just money hungry...

I had a heater like that at one time. It was a coal stove converted to coal oil. I'm guessing that was probably what caused the fire. Very nice job. Keep bringing them. I'm watching whatever comes up in my feed. Enjoying myself I am!

Most likely house shifting over time created cracks, etc in the flue, which is inside the brickwork of the chimney. Creosote builds up in the irregularities, then basically explodes and the entire flue catches on fire, further cracking the flue AND the brickwork all over the place. Superheated smoke and gases seep out, thus the charring of the roof beams. Fortunately THIS ONE wasn't catastrophic and the entire roof didn't burst into flame, which often happens with this old, dry pine or spruce. Just think... I got a 5-yr degree in Engineering from one of the best universities in the country to learn little trivia like that! I hope this helps.

I was spooked by the basement. I lived in an old log house as a child and a basement had been built. I never went. I'm too scared. When you got near the freezer, I shrieked and said, " no! Don't open it!" 🤣 Some of the holes in the house must have been for the pipes / furnace. I love the kitchen. If I'd have money, and lots of ifs... What a great home this would be. If it could talk.... Great video, thank you for sharing.

Good to see a wood furnace like that. The house we moved into was built in 1864, and once had duct work in the cellar but it was all taken out and replaced with hot water baseboard. I hadn't seen a wood furnace with duct work until now..

Funny how one's interests branch out to new topics, and after sampling what KZfaq has to offer, one decides upon a favorite. (The channel's subscribers' commentary contributes to that selection process.) Farm Hunter is a satisfying producer of this fare. What a wonderful house! It's so big and comfortable looking--the attic could even become a third floor (it looks like you can walk upright in it). I especially liked the way the boards around the outside of the attic windows radiated outward instead of being just plain horizontal. Also the door plate and knob in the cellar was beautiful. Those details make this house seem very special.

We had one of those old huge stoves when I was young. You could work in the middle stiring a pot or bowl of something and still have enough room for four pots cooking something. They were wonderful too with two ovens. The holes in the floor were probably for the stove pipes that used to run from floor to floor. This is unusual for the spindals on the attic stairwell to be turned. It was thought the servant weren't good enough to have turned spindals. This was probably an all family run farm and house. Really beautiful huge bedrooms. I didn't see any servants per helpers quarters. Just lovely to see. Thank you

Back in the day alot of things came in jars , jelly's , jams , peanut butter , all kinds of stuff. So when they were empty they would wash them out n reuse them for canning all kinds stuff BC they grew , picked n canned all their own veggies n fruits n make sauces n stuff on the farm. Store it in a cool pantry to last them through the winter also. That's farm living.

Such an awesome house! My great grandparents' house had one of those 'almost vertical' staircases, which I loved as a small kid -- y'know, until I grew up enough that I wasn't comfortable with either having only my toes or heels fitting on the steps. Luckily they had a 'normal' staircase on the other side of the house. XD XD With the burnt wood in the attic and the holes cut into the floor, probably a chimney fire. Looks like they might have been prepping to introduce some central heating and had cut holes for the pipes and vents on the other floors.

When I see these old abandoned homes -- it makes me wonder -- WHY do the owners just allow them to get in this condition? I live in the suburbs of Los Angeles, CA -- and you can't buy one of those green port-o-potties for under $300k here in California!! And, here in these videos, we see all of these beautiful old houses left to rot with no one living within them? Why do people do this? This beautiful old house has so much life left in it -- a community could come together and donate the funds and the time to clean up this old home and repaint it and replace what it would need to make it liveable again. It all just seems like such a waste -- especially when you have people like myself -- who've dreamed of owning their own home -- but could never afford to buy one. It has been an unfulfilled dream. Maybe God will give me one when I get to Heaven? It use to be -- that whole towns would come out and help a farmer build his barn -- the men would all come together and help -- and the women would come together and make enough food to feed everyone. Each would donate what they could in labor and food. Where are these values today? If only communities were still able to do that for each other -- I feel that this house would have been saved. I would think that you could probably buy this house with little or no money down. If you're a young person and you have a steady job -- you could probably make an offer on this house.

That was a great video ! I loved the basement part, i actually recognize some of them jars. I used to can a lot when I was younger & had a garden. Some of them were actual canning jars, Ball,Kerr brand ect.. But the bigger ones look like some I have & used that stuff like Syrup,Molasses & other stuff came in,but when empty could be used again to can & used a quart canning flat & ring. I saw one that was a coffee jar, same as the other one could be used again to can in,they usually used what they called a 'big mouth' fat & ring. Mayonnaise used to come in glass jars & could be used again to to can in. But because they weren't as thick glass, you couldn't put them in a pressure canner, but used them for stuff that didn't need to be boiled as long. Also in the basement, brought back memories of my in-laws,they built a new home years ago, with central air & heat of course, but my father-in-law still wanted a wood burning stove so he put one in the basement with vents got hear to go upstairs. Had a shoot for wood to be put down into the basement & stacked. They always had a big garden & canned a lot, there was shelves all along the wall with canned goods. So when I saw that I immediately thought of them. I enjoyed this a lot. Also glad to see someone with you on this explore. It's dangerous to go alone, in case you have an accident or something. Thanks for another good video..

They were for the stove pipes. At some time they had wood or coal stoves for heating the house. They probably had a small stove in several rooms to heat a large house like this. No water damage mean the roof is still intact. When the roof goes the house soon goes. The burnt wood around the chimney mean they probably had a few chimney fires over the years

What you keep calling an oil tank is actually a pressure tank for a water well. The pressure tank sits near the well and works with the pump down in the well to maintain water pressure for the house.

Wow. What you do is amazingly interesting but I’ve watched/read too much horror to do it myself🤭 however, there is this BEAUTIFUL Victorian house in my town that i stumbled upon taking a wrong turn from Costco one day and i found the owner. It’s empty, but was bought in 2013 - they JUST put a huge fence up. My family thinks the owners will tear it down to build two new houses😭 it’s a huge house with a guest cottage, swimming pool, rose garden trellises stone walkways and fountains. Amazing. Thinking about contacting the owner to see if i can have a look. Thought about hoping the fence back when the y’all fence wasn’t there but it’s oddly in the middle of the burbs and across from an elementary school with a huge no trespassing sign so didn’t want to get arrested. Anyway, do you get scared doing this and have you ever walked in on anyone?!🤭

That fire damage is most definitely a chimney fire. I lived in a rental once where my next door neighbor did the same thing to her house. When people burn alot of wood fires for heat and don't get the chimney cleaned out yearly by a chimney sweep, this is the eventual result of such neglect. Burning material will come out the top of the chimney and land on the roof and start burning the house from the top down.

I was surprised you didn't focus and comment on the obvious, many decades of wear on the wooden steps to the basement. Interesting, too, that the foot traffic seemed to favor a distance away from the handrail.
