My favorite explore yet, this abandoned amusement park in New York closed down in December of 2019 and ceased operations permanently in February or 2020. The rides are slowly being auctioned off and the properties future is uncertain, although there has been talk about selling the property to a developer to build a warehouse, and also another offer by a carnival owner who wants to make a permanent theme park here once again. First opening in 1961, the park was most recently bought by California-based Apex Parks Group in 2016.
The park was home to over 40 rides, including classics like bumper cars, a small wild mouse roller coaster, a giant wooden coaster, water park, and even a kiddie land for the youngest visitors. Jim Carrey also use to visit this park frequently as a kid, tweet him if you don’t believe me! He was fighting for the park to stay open for a little while as it was struggling.
Update: www.wnypapers.com/news/articl...
Urbex. Urban exploring. Urban exploration. Abandoned places. Abandoned amusement park. Abandoned theme park. Abandoned waterpark. Abandoned rollercoaster. Abandoned world. Urbex people. Urban exploring. Untouched abandoned places. Discover and uncover. Fantasy Island.

Subscribed! You made an excellent video! All the other people who have explored that place mainly focused on just the rides. You did a fantastic job of showing all the offices and leftover merchandise no one else showed. Thank you. One of the other explorers slid down that huge black and white slide, which was really cool.

When they closed at the end of the 2019 season, they should have cleared out all of that food from that storage area. Then in December they could have donated those toys as well. What a waste!

Apparently it wasn't until the beginning of 2020 when they decided to close for good. They had already sold a lot of season passes and afaik I don't think those people got refunded. It was very sudden, but not that surprising as quality had gone down significantly the last few years.

We didn't know we weren't opening for the 2020 season until February. We were still hoping for a new buyer until the end of March in the hopes of a 2021 reopening under new owners. I was overnight security there from 2017 until the end of April this year when the company handling the sale of the property decided we were no longer needed due to them handling security "in house".

It's depressing to see the park in such a state of disrepair. I know there's been a lot of vandalism, but Apex completely abandoned the place. All that food that went to waste. Apex should be ashamed of themselves. I hope this new company does get the place up and running and treats the park with the respect it deserves.

I haven't been to Fantasy Island since Summer of 2003, between my Junior & Senior years in high school. I worked at Tops on Grand Island for a time & I thought it would've been cool to go to Fantasy Island, but I was often on closing shifts, so I never got around to it. Just seeing it abandoned like this, almost makes me think of movies like Zombieland, some of the Terminator movies or really any other movies where worldly disasters have happened & places are just left in ruins, which is very sad to see + it's baffling to see such a great place (including shops, slides, rides & even offices) vandalized. I also enjoyed going to the water park, especially when it was really hot out & also the wild west shows. 1 thing I'll never ever forget is when the wave pool got evacuated because some kid got sick & hurled right in the pool.

Had my nephew's birthday here about 2 years ago and went many times through my life. I live about 30 minutes north. It was always alot of fun. Tons of people were upset when they abruptly closed. The town looks like that because it was a wild west theme. There was a show 2 or 3 times a day where the bandits and sheriff had a "shootout". And then they'd give the kids junior sheriff badges. I wish I could have gone one more time. I still remember the commercial from channel 4 when the put in the water park and begging my parents to go. Lol

_My favorite amusement park (Geauga Lake [Six Flags Worlds Of Adventure]) closed in 2007 and sat in ruins for years. The last remaining roller coaster, the Big Dipper, an old classic wooden coaster, sat in decay up until October 2016 when Cedar Fair (parent company of Cedar Point) demolished it and also closed Wild Water Kingdom (formerly Sea World Ohio). Sad to see places that used to bring so much joy to families just get left behind. It does, however, make great exploration videos._

Discover and Uncover apex parks group defaulted on their loans, so they used the rides/equipment as collateral to pay back the money for the loans they owed. They sold off most of the rides besides the water park, silver comet, and the remaining kiddie rides. Apex Parks Group’s lease was terminated on April 10th per bankruptcy court, so everything that they still had on the property is now owned by the property owner (Store Capital) which is a REIT. Everything left on the property won’t be leaving anytime soon.

So your video was featured in this article about Fantasy Island, which looks like it is going to be be purchased and revitalized after all: www.wnypapers.com/news/article/featured/2020/07/02/142201/efforts-underway-to-make-fantasy-island-beautiful-and-fun-again?fbclid=IwAR2EgqMMNT6wR1dnkP79q6ofQWp16F6b2qDfq8l85WHPvcRHMtnXffBYb3k As an aside, the houses at the end of the video were kind of like dioramas; they had scenes set up inside and you looked into them through the glass. They were there from the time I was a kid in the 1970s.

Wow I’ve never made an article before, thanks for sharing, I’m glad they say “no acts of vandalism were made in this clip” cuz I love these places and respect them. I’m glad they are finally doing something with this place

I went there as a small child. Took my sons there on season passes for several years. Been in the wave pool and lazy river hundreds of times 💦 My boys are now grown. They used to have special Halloween themed shows years ago.🎃 Very sad to hear it was closing. Heard last night on the news that there is serious interest in opening the park again. They have people in there cleaning it up. There is Security patrolling. Fingers crossed for reopening 😊🤞 PS I subscribed 👍

This is sad as Indiana beach was also owned by apex and closed. Thank God we were saved and park is being redone. This makes me sick seeing this .

Martin not spending ANY money on upkeep ruined a beautiful park. He pulled a "houseflip" at the end and Apex bought a ticking timebomb. We probably could have made a go of it if a good portion of the profits weren't sunk in repairing the money pit which was the Wave Pool.

So many good memories....until APEX fucked it up. It was in its golden days when Martin owned the park. I hope that Amazon goes with their other plan to put their warehouse on an open field nearby. I'll be damned if they turn the park into a fucking warehouse.

Yeah I’ve heard a few different things about the future of the park, but nobody will really know I’m sure officials will keep it from us as long as they can.
