If you’ve ever taken a walk through Pembroke, you might have spotted Australia Hall, Built between 1915 and 1916 by the Australian branch of the British Red Cross Services, it once served as an entertainment hall, Large and spacious, it could fit 2,000 people inside, standing tall this majestic the building was impressive but now a roofless and decaying mess !! I love these kind of videos where you explored the abandoned and forgotten building. Sometimes it's kind of dangerous walking through these ruins because anything can fall at any time. There was a lot of information And research here. It's fascinating to see it in 2024. I really wonder what it looked like when it was in its Glory days.

As a daughter to Maltese parents who has been back to Malta many times, I would so love to see this building restored. The Maltese govt don't seem to appreciate these historic buildings so it's nice to see private enterprise take up the baton and show that they care. Villa Guardamangia where the Queen and Prince Philip lived is another classic example of neglect. I'm from Australia and I have to say 'Go the Aussies' get it done ❤🎉❤🎉❤

I lived in a Married Quarter in St Patrick’s street in 1978. The building was the barracks Cinema, but was closed in 1977 when 41 Commando moved to RAF Luqa, and handed to the Maltese Government. The small building with the graffiti was being used as a NAAFI Shop for those left in St Patrick’s Street. Closed in 1979.

Around 298 Anzacs never made it home. In the Addolorata Cemetery, Paola, one headstone reads something along the lines of 'returned to Malta to be buried with his mates'.

Also our "Danish Village" in Mellieha, is built on a former British Barracks Area by the Coast, from when The British left. We bought it and built on the area shortly after the Independence (Originally Cooperating with Maltese Unions. But today it is 99% Danish owned)! As a former Soldier told me: The Army normally "digs a hole in the ground", in the middle of nowhere, but this seems to have been the exception? We still have a few "concrete plates" left, one standing outside the coast, probably for landing goods, and one in the area, but besides that, - nothing is left to see! Finn. Denmark

A BEAUTIFUL & HISTORIC BUILDING GOES TO RUINS 🏤 ☹️. Steve, some years ago, a couple of NGOs in Australia started a campaign "Restoration of Australia Hall Project" but nothing materialised (to date). These NGOs approached the Australian Government for help towards funding the restoration of the hall but were turned down - 'Australian Government NOT interested '. I was surprised because at the same time the sum of "$500 Million" was voted/allocated towards the Canberra War Memorial "upgrade" . Think about it !? 🤔. Thanks Steve & Andrew. Cheers 👍🇲🇹❤️🇪🇺™️

Strange things happen in politics !! Could have something to do with the many things that were not mentioned in this video of the checkered past with the transfer from British the Maltese government to Labour Party to private hands who owns it today , and the alleged connection with the murder of Daphne, still water run deep !! You might fine it interesting chatting with andrew, and hes other projects in Malta

We are still working on the restoration. Believe me, we are still active. The Australian government will NOT support the restoration, so it is up to the community and veterans to show what can be done. I met with the owner this very evening and he has confirmed both his commitment to the restoration, and space in the building for an Anzac museum.

Good morning Steve😊 You recently mentioned a vlog on "car hire in Malta" you are preparing 😊🚗 Can you ask your guest expert about a 25 euro collection fee, charged at the airport? Another Chanel related this as a scam as the charge is not mentioned when prebooking? I've noticed the car hire collection is in a separate building so some insight as to where the desks are would be most appreciated 😊,🚗👌
@EnglishmaninMalta

Yes I am looking into car hire but its hard to find someone to give mt time on camera, ...tell you truth I found many scams with car hire all over the world, they are notorious for adding on charges everywhere not just Malta, sometimes its better grab a taxi or bus and hire from the hotel or resort or local streets not airport

I recently hired from Eurocar. No problems, but this year i did take out full insurance as parking in Malta can be difficult, and there is a likelihood of carpark damage. Car hire offices are on level 1 of the covered car park at the airport, just a short walk from arrivals. I recommend pre-booking online as often there is an upfront payment discount. I do note that Hertz rewards is not available in Malta due to some franchise issues.
