I’ve been detailing cars for over 45 years. The way you guys did this car was incredible. The super black paint and the blood red leather that cleaned up so beautifully is a testament to the quality of Mercedes Benz materials. This car new was over $3,000 dollars. You could have a Chevy or a Ford for $1,200. The first two cars I ever detailed for money was a Chocolate Brown 1979 Mercedes 450 SEL sedan and a 450 SL convertible in Silver with a black top. Both owned by a local surgeon and friend of the family. They paid me $50 to detail both cars. All by hand since there were no buffers. I thought I had the world by the ass to make $50 doing something I love. Well done gents.

One detailer made an interesting comment. He was called to New York to detail a rare 1990s Mercedes convertible. The owner picked it up after it sat in a parking lot outside for over a year. It was so badly neglected that he thought the paint couldn't be saved. However, the client paid up front so he decided to tackle the job. The gunk and grime were so thick that he resorted to an unusual technique: he pre rinsed the car as thoroughly as he could and went over it with a foam cannon, making sure he mixed the soap extra thick. Then instead of rinsing the foam, he immediately took out a freaking ginormous clay bar and ran over the entire car with it. He had to fold it so many times that it was totally ruined. After the the clay bar detailing was done, he showed the bar. It was yellow when new but had turned almost completely dark gray. He stretched it out as much as he could and it was so saturated with dirt and crap that he had to throw it away. It was a $40 bar! Yikes. But after the second wash, he got up close and inspected every inch of the body. The paint was fine. Not even one chip or badly oxidized spots anywhere on the body. How is this possible when it never was in a garage? He theorized that not washing the car for so long resulted in the dirt protecting the paint from the elements and the car was in just the right kind of weather for that to occur. Not that he'd recommend doing it. Ironically, washing the car every few months would have simply exposed the paint to the elements, increasing the chances of damage. Strange how severe neglect helped save the paint in some way.

@videohivechannel

cause the dust is fake, it not natural dust. they purposely created them. look at the containers 1:00, those are new white containers but full of dust and no footprints. Also the stand lamps they setup is new and yet no footprints, it means that they put the dust after setting up everything.

@video Hive, I was just going to write this. You can tell it’s fake dust by how quick & easy it came off. If it was years old dust it would of been much thicker & the paint would of been dull.

My dad had an old Mercedes when we were stationed in Germany back in the early 70’s. I was only 5. But that car left an impression on me. My dads looked similar to this, but it was older. It had a wooden dash. I always thought it was a beautiful car. I was sad when he came home from work on a cold wintery day and told me and my mom he has hit an ice patch and smacked it into a tree. But the memory of that beautiful car stayed with me. I’ve owned 3 Benz’s of my own now. My favorite being my E55 AMG. Mercedes makes some sweet cars. This guy needs to restore this old Benz and enjoy it. Cool car.

@@dgmclar With one tyre holding air, it's likely the other three could be inflated to a decent pressure. Also, the valve would be much more likely to fail due to being perished... I mean, you can watch other channels on youtube where people pump up tyres which are cracked almost through to the core, and drive the car hundreds of miles (albeit quite slowly!!)

I believe Mercedes put the 190C model out in April 1961. Slow motion foaming was slick! Great work on this one RJ. Great camera work, editing, and narration. Awesome chrome finishing! Really restored the beauty of the leather! Rubber floor mats on the floor were a good idea at the time. Got to admit that you brought the ol girl back to life! Really impressive!!! or sick!!!

Great channel and great work! Watching this now. Will ask one thing: do NOT power wash a dry, dusty car; you may as well sand blast that paint. For a car like this, with layers of dust/dirt, first wet thoroughly with an ordinary hose from top down. Once car is soaked; use a pressure sprayer with a mixture of water and Dawn dishwashing liquid to soak the entire car top to bottom. Suggest one cup Dawn to one gallon water. You should use a minimum of one gallon to coat entire car with the soapy mixture. NOW you can blast aawy with the pressure washer. Keep a reasonable distance. You will find . 1 Everything will come off faster and more completely and 2. your next wash (hand wash) will be much easier and more thorough.

I think I would used a White 40° tip instead of the Green 25° tip. The Green might be too narrow and strong thus possibly removing/damaging the old paint. It could have removed the paint from the hubcaps.

Has nothing to do with cars. It's the people that don't value the cars because it's a lease most of the time and you want to jump to the next best thing. The cars nowadays are absolute marvels of engineering, the owners on the other hand are...well :D

OMG... I don't know HOW I stumbled on this channel - I have recently been fascinated by restoration of old Tonka and Buddy L toys from back in the day, and I lucked up on your channel. Needless to say I have subscribed and clicked the bell and I will be enjoying this wonderful videos that you have already done and will be doing. Absolutely wonderful work and I have a 2000 Eldorado convertible that the previous owner was not too careful about putting the top up when it might rain, so I will be using the products that you have been using, so thank you so much for that, too. Amazing job, fellas, and the music is absolutely perfect for relaxing and watching you guys pull it all together. By the way, my Dad had a 1963 190D that looked just like this one.

@@devilinthedetailers7661 I don't agree. A vast number of those electronics are not neded. And how comes the engine control electroinics and accesories are designed to fail in 5 fkin years exactly after you buy a car but the safety systems like ABS and Airbags last a lifetime usually? cuz governements won't allow them to underengineer thoes, and it wold be a pretty big hit to sales. There is a difference between advance tech sensitivity and planned obsolescence.
