Hi Dylan, I'm an old combat vet of the V/N war, 74 yrs of age. I love mopars, have owned many of them from the '50s, '60s, 70s. I've built my share of em , especially from the 60s. One of my fav engines was the Chrysler poly series. Until the 440, 383, 426 wedges. I'm 74 yrs old now, diabetic, and knees from two tours of trudging thru the away valley, and the surrounding mountains. But seeing you save so many of these cars n trucks, hearing them fire up and burn some rubber makes me smile for days. I built some 318, 361, dodge 325, and they'd haul, but nothing hails like a 440, 383, 426w, I wish I could build one today, but I'm a realist, I know what it takes, and I just ain't got the ways n means. But I enjoy watching a young man doing what you do, keeping them going. Great work young man!!!!

Another trick for changing the valve stem seals on an assembled engine is to feed a length of nylon rope in through the spark plug hole and bring the piston up against the valves. Holds them in place just fine!

I’m a lifelong Chevy guy but you’re making me fall in love with old Dodges. Doesn’t help I want a Ram Rebel right now haha

What I love about your channel as opposed to most car KZfaqrs I watch is that you give old vehicles a new life. What most of us would see as a hunk of junk, you see potential.

I had one of these when I was in high school. Mine was a 1979 Dodge custom single cab short bed, and my neighbor owned a1978 long-bed . I think they're really nice solid trucks

Great video man, this one really got to me. I had a 79 power wagon that I bought as a partially finished project and I spent 5 years completing everything. It was a beautiful blue truck with a lumpy cammed 360 and edelbrock 4 barrel sitting on a 4 inch lift and 35s. I loved her so but sadly fell on some hard times and had to sell her a year ago. It was really fun watching you work on this one because I know every inch of those trucks and remember the dumb diagnostic port and everything else under the hood as I had spent countless hours sitting on those fenders tinkering under the hood. Thanks for this one, it brought back some good memories 👍

Had a 1980 1/2 ton short bed truck like this, we used it for everything. I did not have big block, but a little slant six which did do well in ice and snow. I do have to admit I like the sound and power of a bigger motor. Your older engine bay is a little nicer to work on than the late 90's going forward, because of the engine setting back so far and the firewall cowling, You do nice job of laying out the project and the steps along the way.

Great stuff this is my ideal way of working since the 70s cash-poor but ample time swap meets recycling cleaning I like the direction your channel is going cheers bro

The exhaust crossover isn't to warm the engine up faster, it's to keep the fuel from condensing on the intake manifold walls and atomized better.

I drove a 1980 Dodge Ram short box 2WD in Cordovan Brown with tan interior. Had the 225ci slant 6 with a 4spd manual. Loved that truck! Wish I still had it. Always dreamed about a 360 swap but never did it. Some day maybe I’ll do it. As you’ve documented. The old Dodges are everywhere.

Love an old school Dodge. Grandfather had a 78 Dodge halfton with slant six and three speed. 😊

Great job, Dylan. This is all very familiar. My daily driver is a 78 D100 short bed that I swapped in a 400 last fall. It runs great, literally drive it every day. 11 mpg.

Really appreciate the content you produce. Really helpful and a lot of information and tips for me. I own a 1981 Ramcharger 318cid truck in Estonia and it is really hard to find good video content that is understandable and relatable. Really a good find of a channel in my opinion! Keep it up!!

That truck in Eastern Canada, where I am, would cost $$35-4000 as it sat when you bought it. Around here the rust from salt on the roads makes it so there are none left in that shape and are still overpriced.

We had a '77 D100 short box. It was red with tan vinyl interior. Powered by a greasy 318. What a great truck !

In July of 78 I bought a new D150 custom with a 400/727 I had to pay extra for the chrome front and rear bumpers they were just like those. My truck was a regular cab long bed with carpet ac power steering and brakes. I paid $6565.00 for it. Sure miss that truck but it got totaled in a wreck.

I like the extended cab you keep in the back ground.

And here I thought you were going to put a 4 speed back into the truck.. 3 pedals.... Standard shift is so much fun..... Nothing Beats a bit of elbow grease and some Krylon semi gloss black under hood...

Thanks for letting us know about the booster option(3/4t truck). I have an 87 D150 and I swapped the valve covers and later the heads but have been fighting the clearance to the booster the whole time.

I used to work at a used car dealership. Once or twice a month a man named Sonny would show up and do under the hood detailing of all the auction cars. He only used rattle cans. 1 flat black, 1 gloss black, 1 high temp clear coat, 1 high temp silver, and then he had cans of high temp engine color in different colors. That high temp clear coat makes hoses, wires, firewalls and faded paint pop like new paint. LOL He was worth what ever they paid him. After the customer bought the car or truck that high temp clear coat would start to loosen up and look bad but it was too late by then. Oh I forgot the can of Gunk engine cleaner. He would spray the entire engine bay with Gunk and use the parts cleaner brush to scrub the crusty old dirt and grease off everything. The high temp silver makes old mufflers look new.....Wink, Wink Say No More !!!

I had a 77 D200 with a factory 400 and 727. I installed full length Hedman Elite headers that were heavy 14 gauge tubing and ceramic coated. They fit beautifully, sounded awesome with dual glasspacks behind them, and made a lot more power! But they were 300 bucks, back in 2002!

Nice work! It is good to know that others appreciate a nice clean and freshly painted vehicle. It drives me nuts watching other videos of guys pulling a motor and just throwing it in another vehicle. My attitude has always been while you have it out, why not freshen it up. ty for the great content and teaching others how to paint correctly with a rattle can.
