This 1984 Dodge D100 was parked for over a decade untouched. A guy recently got it running and driving, but it desperately needs washed and a make over! let's make this an official "Going to Town RIG!"

I had 5 slant 6 vehicles, mostly in my first 2 decades of driving. They are literally indestructible. Driving my 64 Dodge Dart through the Mojave Desert once and this loud horn sound emanated from the engine compartment. Popped the hood and steam was coming out of the overflow so strong that it was shooting out several feet. Naturally it was well over 100 degrees out and I had to just sit and wait with no shade. There was a canal visible in the desert that looked close but probably wasn’t. While contemplating a death defying walk a VW bus pulled up full of hippie types, who were more than happy to supply me with water and an escort to the nearest town. After changing out the bad water pump and filling up I was back on my way to Phoenix none the worse for the experience and the Dart running like nothing had happened. I eventually got sick of Phoenix and drove the Dart back to my parents house in RI, still running perfectly.

So much that my boys and i are going to budget restore my boys 93 s10. The revivals are cool and its great to see you bring em back to life, but like the other feller in this thread said, its nice to see you close to the fam just doing this rebuilding/restoring. My dad had a 1971 Dodge pickup. You reminded me of a funny story. My daughter's cat had a litter of kittens. They were playing in the cab. One of them crawled into the drain at the back of the seat. The poor little thing's tail was the only thing sticking out. We pulled on it's tail but it only popped like when you pull your finger. So I poured vegetable oil down the hole so it would be slippery and the kitten would slide right on out. Didn't work! We were desparate and drove to the local volunteer fire department where they were holding a turkey shoot. A nice young man tried to help us. We pulled the truck into the bay and he crawled up under the door. There is a flange that's spot welded under there. So he got a tool that could fit between the pieces of metal to pry it apart. When he got it spread, the little kitten flew out like a shot cat and went into the meeting room/kitchen. It looked like a punk rock, spiky-haired kitten from the vegetable oil. It took nearly 30 minutes to catch the little creature but we prevailed and took him home. I gave the guy a $10 tip for his help. That was a lot considering this was in the 1980's. What a wonderful memory. That is what watching your videos reminds me of. Thanks Derek.

I’ve got a 63 dart and though the slant six had major overheating issues it never let me down. Had a few hiccups on account of not being able to find a parts store that stocked the proper carb kit and sometimes the 60 year old wiring just decided to take naps, but they’re great little engines. Everybody asks me if I’m putting a small block in it when it goes back together but having daily driven that slant with better fuel economy than any fuel injected car I’ve owned, I just can’t bring myself to do away with it. Once drive it six hours at 300+ degrees and it never once even hiccuped. I stopped using coolant in it on account of the constant overheating issues, and it froze on me one frosty October day. Got so hot that I pulled into work with rods knocking and some terrible banging and clanging. Let it cool down, and it started right up and drove onto the trailer the next day. A few weeks later it ran just as good to drive off the trailer. Can’t imagine getting rid of such a tough platform for anything else. As it turned out rust had clogged the coolant journals going into the head, despite my attempts at getting rid of the rust. Long live the I6

Like they need a tire dunk tank (for finding leaks, never works) full of Vaseline.. I swear that's what some people do. What I like is exactly what you just did Derek, a quick spray and most importantly wipe em dry! I've been using permashine alot recently.. it dries DRY almost like a clear coat. This guy uses a product called Stoners Trim Shine (pump spray) for all the interior surfaces, AND the tires! Gives that natural satin look, not too shines, and not greasy. Also does a great job on faded black trim, like bumper inserts and tonneau covers. Try it - you’ll like it. And I ain’t kiddin’!

Cleaning mold off anything, from houses to trucks to ceilings, I've had good luck using Mold Armor EZ Siding & House Wash. It's got a pretty strong chlorine content and almost works like soft washing a house. You can basically wipe it on without a lot of elbow grease, and the mold just starts fading away. Then rinse with water. Would probably work great on an old white Dodge!

I don’t know what it is - maybe because my parents had an ‘82 Aries wagon - but those old dodge taillights are super nostalgic for me. They weren’t the best cars on the road - but gosh darn it, they had heart. We had our Aries till it was 16 years old-Gray color with powder blue velour interior with 4-on-the-floor.

When you were changing out that tire in the gravel, I was thinking those rocks might be like accupunture and relieve some points of stress...or a perfect time to make a snow angel. Now I can't get the image of Derek making a snow angel in the gravel out of my head! Hahaha. I like those Dodgey Dodges a lot . I had a friend who bought a 1981 D100 truck (square headlights) with the inline 6. I didn't like Dodges until I rode in that truck. It was sweet! Poor guy, he only had it maybe 3 months, and he and his brother went for a ride on a motorcycle together, and lost their lives in an accident. I tried to take over the payments on the truck, but his mom would not sell it. It sat in her drive and rusted away.

A lot of people would pass up a truck like this. Nothing special about it, looked long forgotten. Its' great to see how much you were able to clean it up. Goes to show some nice rides might be a bit more realistic than a lot of people think!

The new barn is kind of big, so if you collect all the rainwater from the roof in a couple of sizable tanks and place those on stands a few feet of the ground (so gravity helps you empty them) you'll have plenty of water for power washing your rigs there Derek...

Despite the long gear ratio in the back, these old Slant Six 225 engine Dodge trucks with 4 speed transmissions usually had a pretty low first gear cog, like a go-slow, haulin' weight or towin' something around the farm, steep incline, granny gear. Hopefully this one has that which will make her a little more versatile and useful to whoever ends up usin' her regularly.

1:23:05 That truck would sound great with a 318 CID in it, and Cherry Bomb exhaust. It would have that hot rod loping sound. And when you get down on it and open it up, it will sound really good.

Some electronic issues but let me tell you once she started rusting it never stopped! Lol I remember having to always keep them lil ceramic resistors in the glove box. Probably why I won't own another dodge..... 💯💯💯
