UPDATE: This BP was completely demolished last fall. In it's place they are building a Mattress Warehouse, scheduled to open by this summer. 3-5 years ago, that intersection & the surrounding area had numerous abandoned places.

Some states/municipalities require gas station companies to replace the underground tanks depending on their age. The cost of digging up the old ones and remediation of any leaks or spills and placing new tanks, is prohibitive. Easier to cash out, hide the money, declare bankruptcy, then start a new company and build a new station somewhere else.

Ok, forgive me for sounding a bit dumb, but, has there been no rain or wind or any other condition that would cause a newspaper thats been sat there for apparently over 2 years to disintegrate or disappear? Would it honestly still be in that condition out in the open and all the elements?

theroosterbooster1 Thinking maybe the papers were in some kind of plastic free newspaper box. Possible the metal pay per paper style. Could have been picked up or stolen just before this video was made. So papers could have only been exposed to weather for a few days... just a theory. I had the same thought as you thought. 2 year old paper out in snow/rain/sun

the reason why the amoco name was on or is on the bp pumps is cause amaco merged with bp and that happened in 1998. In May 2008, United States BP stations mostly discontinued use of the "Amoco Fuels" logo as BP introduced its new brand of fuel, "BP Gasoline with Invigorate". BP still uses the Silver and Ultimate brands for its midgrade and premium gasolines.

BP bought out Amoco when they came to the USA sometime in the 90s. They started the changeover by saying they were "BP featuring Amoco gasoline." For a period of time that stood until all references to Amoco were removed. Right after the Deepwater Horizon accident BP dropped servicing some Southern locations and sold them to either Marathon or Valero (I live in Mississippi and had a no-longer usable BP credit account). The only BP I have seen since the changeover is a truck stop in East Mississippi near the Alabama state line (where BP still has some stores).

I waited tables for a place that turned out to be a scam, Kenny. (Howdy from NC by the way) They got people to finance them, opened a place, then after about 3 months they brought in a team and removed every stove, chair, and plate in one night. When I showed up I had no job and I hated that because it was a good one. I did learn one thing: saganaki is an *AMAZING,* delicious dish. I got to prepare it tableside there. We heard the Greek owners took all the proceeds and retired to Crete!

We had BP ( British Petroleum ) up here in Canada up to about 1980 when all stations were assumed by Petro Canada . They also assumed all Gulf stations too. The one in my hometown ( Port Credit ) was a PC and then a Pizza Pizza was built on its site with other shops . That one in Bridgeville looked like an idea location ! Our BP logo was the older style . BTW a friend of mine pumped gas at ours up here in 1975 -76 and they gave him a BP winter jacket with logos . I wonder if he still has it ?

BP and Amoco merged in 1998, then started phasing out the Amoco name (except for their Premium fuel to keep the Amoco trademark in use) to just only BP in the US. In 2017, BP brought back the Amoco name as a sibling brand (think Exxon and Mobil or Marathon and Arco) to increase franchise opportunities.

We had Amoco in MD, but they got bought out by BP as well here around 2004 or 2005. Those pumps look old, too, card reader and keypad don't look to be up to current code. Also weird how the gas pumps are still in place, but the car wash keypad for entering your car wash code isn't... cool to see all the old stuff inside the garbage area, though. Hopefully someone will buy this station and revitalize it... I wonder why they went out of business...

Amoco did not by out standard...Amoco before the name change was American, they were part of the Standard Oil Trust and owned Indiana. Standard Oil (started by John D. Rockefeller and Henry Flagler). The original Standard Oil was Esso (now Exxon) although after the Sherman Anti Trust break up, Rockefeller wound up with Sohio. Sohio was taken over by BP, changed the name of Sohio and Boron to BP, purchased Gulf in the south east.

Another fuel brand that used to be widespread is ARCO. They were all over the northeast when I was a kid, but they all became something else, or just closed up shop, 30-35 years ago. I thought that they went of business, but every time I would see a Dodgers' game on TV, there would be ARCO advertising all over the place, indicating the brand at least still existed in SoCal.

Here in Somerset Ky all the BP’s have been turned into Marathons, and most of the Shell’s have been turned into Valero’s. We used to have our own chain of old school full service stations called Somerset Oil but they all closed in the mid 00’s. South of us in Whitley City there was a station called “M3” which had a Burger King and a AT&T dealer all under the same roof, it closed somewhere 06-08 and so did the Burger King and AT&T, and its 2018 and the building still stands, still has everything inside, there is still drinks in the coolers.

That's hilarious that Shell stations turn in Valero stations. In northern Texas, it's Exxon, Texaco and Shell country. Valero can barely stay alive. Near my neighborhood, I can find multiple Exxon, Texaco or Shell stations but there's just one Valero for 8 city blocks! And 7-Eleven is really digging its heels in by building another gas station less than two blocks away.

The owners must have been cheapskates or owed a lot of money that hadn't been paid back in ages. If they didn't owe a gigantic amount, they would have tried to take everything with them including the coffee makers in the car wash. Those coffee makers are freaking expensive. I'm shocked that all that stuff hasn't been stolen yet. In my town, the place would be stripped in one month, the front windows all smashed in and graffiti in Spanish absolutely everywhere.

There's a city on the other side of your state named Pittsburgh. Maybe you've heard of it. Bridgeville is outside Pittsburgh.

Surprised 😳 the pumps are even still there. Sure that's usually one of the first things to get taken by the owners.

We actually have a Amoco being built here in Cedar Rapids, IA and when I want to Florida I saw one two. I thought they went out a business too.

I think it might've started out as British Petroleum during their final era under the BP shield logo (which was used by BP from 1989 to 2002) in the 1990s. Looks like one it was one of their original BP Express stores...

It brings a tear to my eye because I live 3 blocks away from a local BP that's the only gas station I go to besides marathon in this town I go to QuikTrip for a like hot food or a drink or something but do I little put gas in my car from QuikTrip only when BP is closed and I need gas emergency only otherwise BP Marathon all the way. I hope someone buys this BP and fixes it up and reopens it if I had the money I would definitely travel there fix it up and do it myself. Thank you for the video I enjoy it.

Internet tells me that tthere was an Amoco/BP merger in 1998 and over the years, everything got rebranded BP, although at the end of 2017, they announced they were bringing the name back, so Amoco stations now exist in NJ and NY.

There is an abandoned Sonic restaurant in Henderson if you wanted to see it. It's been taken by another business but the Sonic sign is still on both sides.

There's different gas station brands all over the country. They even differ within the state. For years, we couldn't get Valero in Southern California, it was only a Northern California brand. We're starting to see Sinclair, and that's not a brand that was native to CA. BP even said they'd eventually pull the AM/PM brands out of CA, but that hasn't happened yet. We don't, however, have BP stations themselves even though we do have BP refineries. Florida has Wawa, and the east coast has brands that we don't have on the west coast.

no, the gas would have been drained by the distributor, because until it goes through the pumps it is still technically his property as it has not been sold yet.

We had a pancake house burn down. The sign on the side of the road remained. It read, “ We never stop serving breakfast.” Funny with the building behind the sign burnt to the ground.
