Abandoned Bridges Over The Railroad & Train With DPU Working Up The Hill, Norfolk Southern Railroad!

Standing High On Abandoned Bridge Over Norfolk Southern Train With Construction Going On! Also Canadian Pacific Railroad Led Phosphate Train Going Under Me On Another Abandoned Bridge! Fast train in Florence, fast train with 3 locomotives and Train With DPU Working Hard Up Steep Hill In Kentucky!
These trains are in Kentucky on the Norfolk Southern Rat Hole Line. The first bridge was abandoned recently and will be removed. I filmed myself driving over it about a year ago. It was rated as poor back then and now it is closed with the road rerouted around it. The next bridge has been abandoned for years. We see a phosphate train go under it with CP power. What do you think about these historic abandoned bridges? Please leave a comment.
We also have a couple of fast trains on the same line and then we go over to the big hill!
Listen to the locomotives working hard as they sand the rails on the big hill in Crescent Springs, Kentucky. The lead unit and DPU sound awesome working up the hill. There are 5 trains in this video. The first 3 trains are all in about the same area near Corinth, Kentucky. The next train is on the same line in northern Kentucky near Florence. The last train is coming up the big hill. All trains are on the Norfolk Southern Rat Hole Line and filmed on the same day. The construction going on during the first train was a crew shoring up the right of way to prevent erosion.

When I was in seminary back in the 70's I pastored a small church in Morgan, Kentucky, near Falmouth. The seminary was in Lexington and so I traveled up the interstate each week and regularly got off near Corinth and drove over that old bridge to get to my weekend church. I remember it well. It's rare you will hear that in videos. Unless it's a short line, the main lines are all welded rail and don't have joint bars anymore. Some sidings have jointed rail and spurs do, but this video was all welded rail.

Thank you for another video of trains on the Cincinnati, New Orleans & Texas Pacific Railroad line that is owned by the City of Cincinnati. The Delaney Road bridge does look like it needs to be removed. The other abandoned bridge also needs to be removed before either of them falls onto the tracks. The last train going up the hill at Beechwood Road was long and needed that hard-working mid-train DPU.

The train with the CP locomotives and rust bucket hoppers was a fertilizer train. Either empty or loaded, here in WI/MN potash heads east and phosphate goes west. The CP train numbers for fertilizer are in the 600s for bulk commodity unit trains.

Another great one JT. I remember you driving over that old bridge and thinking at the time that you were a whole lot braver than I am. It's a shame it has to come down but it's pretty obvious that it is time. Have you noticed an increase in intermodal traffic lately? I was watching a maritime channel a few days ago and it was reported that shipping to the ports of L.A. and Long Beach had dropped off by about 43% in 2022 in favor of gulf and east coast ports. Just curious if you might have noticed any increase in rail traffic as a result. Thanks for great videos.

15 to 20 years ago I would take us rt. 6 in Indiana in the alternative to the turnpike. You would run beside lots of rail for miles. Was great for rail fans...

Nice one Jaw Tooth. Plenty traffic on the rails today then? Good to see. I didn't count the cars on the last one but two of the others were 150+ cars. When three loco's are used up front, it's usually a long train. I wonder what sort of forces are on the first couplings to the train! Those bridges look like it might not take a strong wind to take them down. I remember you driving over that 'concrete blocked' one. Thanks again JT. Keep safe out there. Cheers!

There were some older bridges in Wisconsin that held on even after they were closed to traffic because the block signals were mounted on the frame. The train climbing the hill also had a unique freight car a gray bulkhead flatcar with the reporting marks RTAX. That stands for Renefe' Talgo America so that aluminum might become part of a car body for a light rail car. I looked at the car ahead of it and there was an empty space so I always think of the day you explained the delays were due to an Ingot sliding off between the tracks

Hey😮 JT there is a tussle going over i24 near Chattanooga Tennessee I bet it's 500 feet in the air and I saw something in Nashville last week I've never seen before on a regular freight train I saw 2 DPUs now I've seen them on coal trIns before but not freight trains you need to go visit that tussle down near Chattanooga UT is so cool

There are a few bridges they have taken out along the Southern Tier, gone for decades. There is one that I always wanted to get a video of a train going under but I quit doing KZfaq.

The old stone station with the Shell sign was Fishers Camp had a lake and cabins and large hotel with dining room. back in the 1930's was known to do a little moonshing. The TeePee was a truck stop gas station. t

Thanks for JT for Field Rd, that triple lead loco's double stack intermodal was sure booking with a huge gap in the middle, waiting for a dpu that didn't eventuate, sorry to hear the gradual demise of that bridge you drove across last year. Nothing to do with the video today but thinking about NS and East Palestine, did the derail happen in a curve and how far into the train did it happen? I remember reading and watching some HO railroaders trying to set a consist record but kept having derail at a certain curve until they added a DPU to the middle. Then they succeeded with the record attempt

Great video. Appreciate the view from the top, different perspective. Suggest you stand on the right side of the train so I can read end car reporting marks. It's amazing how many cars Crab Orchard and Egyptian has out there. Keep up the great work and scratch Chessie and Norfie for me.👍
