Mountain Biking to the Goat Canyon Trestle Bridge
The Goat Canyon Trestle Bridge is located deep in the California desert down an abandoned California railroad line. To get there you will pass abandoned railroad tunnels and bridges. Along the route you will see several abandoned trains in the California Desert. You can hike or Mountain bike this route. Be careful in the summer months, as it can get very hot. We did this ride in December and the weather was perfect. This is one of the best Abandoned places in California that I have explored

The 3 cars at mile 4 in your videos were built in the 1950s for the railways formerly known as Canadian Paciric Railway (now CPKC) for use on the Montréal-Rigaud commuter line in Québec, Canada. They were steam heated, no ventilation. In winter, they put a window glazing over the single pane windows to keep cars warmer. The service was taken over by government in early 1980s, and those cars were upgraded to electric heat (head end power) in late 1980s/early 1990s after tyhe govt started to buy new locomotives (which no onger generated steam for heating) and before it started to receive new cars (Comets) to replace them. During the CP era, those cars were also sometimes used to haul skiers to Mont Tremblants and Mont Laurier up north (but generally service was on Budd RDCs). I have most likely ridden on at least one of those 3 cars in my life. Earlier videos of the train line show these cars still intact and clean. Then with graffitti and recently , with the fire. The reporting mark on them is not that of CP, or AMT/EXO who owned the cars so they would have been sold off to someone. The fleet was much larger. I guess the last onwer foujd room for3 cars on that railway and woudl have found other "permanent" parking spots elsewhere. At the time these cars stopped their service, the agency that operated them was called AMT , Agence Métropolitaine de Transport and there should still be its logo or signage on those cars.

That was a great day. I'm getting ready to mtb this in late Jan or Feb. I did it in 2018 with my ebike and set the bike aside at your 08:00 mark. I was solo and the bike was just too heavy to safely pass that section so I hiked the rest of the way. I had time to spend about 5 minutes at the big bridge and got home in the dark. Sadly I read that a 24 year old mtb'r died in July this year from dehydration. He gave up his water to hiker's who didn't bring enough and couldn't make it back. His buddys were able to climb to get a signal to call in rescue but they got there too late. One of his buddys was also rescued and saved. Temp was recorded at 106* late afternoon. Very unforgiving territory. A gallon of water is not too much. Tip is to carry in 5 liters and leave a couple liters along the way, say at the 3 and 6 mile mark, so you aren't carrying them the whole way but they are there if you need them. Also, Camelbak's brust (ask me how I know) so best to bring several containers.

Good stuff man! I was just out there a few weeks ago and then again back at the end of March. I'm also a growing KZfaq, adventure type channel except I favor more of documenting my journey as a photographer to get the shot, rather than documenting the actual location. I am out of Orange County, California and always up for a collab. I incidentally end up in a lot of abandoned areas. I am a full time freelance photographer and videographer. I just did a collab with a fellow KZfaqr, Jeven Dovey out here. Either way, I wish you the best in your journey, I just subbed and can't wait to see you kill it bro.

It’s ashamed that graffiti be spoils what would otherwise been a time capsule. The effort to spray nothing of consequence in a place rarely visited seems more than obscured. In addition setting one on fire is at even a higher level of nuts. Viewers: Is that what you thought when you saw it?

This is a hiking route not favorable for cycling. Cycle becomes an additional burden to walk with.

This was the San Diego and Arizona Eastern, once operated by the Southern Pacific as a shortcut between San Diego and its transcontinental mainline near Yuma. Last operated in the early 1980s. Canadian Pacific's Myra Canyon east of Kelowna BC is equally impressive, and the province has made it into a recreational trail!

it would be better if the SDAE could get the funding it needs to restore the tracks and open the line again. San Diego has no rail connection to the East without it.

There is a place where you can experience what train travel on the San Diego and Arizona was like. It’s called the pacific southwest railway museum and they offer train rides through and area of the line as well as a museum with cool train cars and a steam locomotive
