A quick note on the fossil shark tooth: That is a tooth from an Otodus obliquus (mackerel shark) from the Late Paleocene (~56 million years ago) of Morocco. The little fossil set next to it is a grinding tooth from a Myliobatis dixoni (eagle ray) from the same time period and location. They are real fossils, but they are artificially set on "matrix" made from sand and glue -- a common scenario for Moroccan fossils. They're not particularly valuable, as they are plentiful and easy to get, but they do have a bit of a neat-o factor for beginning collectors. And that, boys and girls, is your paleontology lesson for today.

For all those who are feeling very sad and speculating that a very young person lived in this home and passed on, Alex noted in a reply to someone that the man who passed away was in his 60's and had a son in his 20's. Sixties is still far too young but he also was not in his 20's as many are speculating due to the snowboarding gear etc. Death is always sad and these videos where we see the last dish still sitting where the man who lived there left them the last day he walked out of his home hit hard. We are all going to pass on at some time and most of us will not have any idea when that last day is going to be. My best friend of over 32 years dried her dinner dishes and went out to get her last steps in for the day, she was obsessed with her 10,000 steps counter, she took very good care of her health. She was not 3 minutes from her house on the sidewalk when a man who drank his dinner at the local tavern hit and killed her, she had just celebrated her 55th birthday. She left her dishes drying in the rack , intending to put them away in 30 minutes when she came back she never did. Alex's videos do many things, and have provided me with countless hours of incredible videos filled with so much love and empathy for those who have passed on, and in some cases when he started the video series where still with us. His videos are a stark reminder that no one knows when will be our last hug, our last "i love you" to those we hold so dear to us. I sure wish I could tell my best friend one more time how much i treasured the decades of ups and downs we had lived through together, but I was left holding her hand in the ICU with her hooked up to a breathing machine while they searched for others to receive her organs as she left this world giving vision and life to others, just as she lived her life always thinking of others. I am reminded to get moving on sorting through things that need to be sold or donated or pitched because I would hate for my family to have to deal with my clutter in such a time of sadness and grief. Alex provides an incredible service to families and does it with all the kindness one would expect from a fellow Canadian.

The EVGA Geforce GTX 1080 box at 25:30 was once containing a close to top tier graphics card from a few generations back. It can still be used for 1080p gaming if you find it and it works properly, as it still can compete with a modern RTX 3060 just without raytracing, I'd check inside the computer tower in the closet at 21:55. If it's in there the chances are that the rest of the computer parts in it is pretty top of the line from a few years back as well.

My guess is that a father and son lived here. Son moved to another country taking his clothes and personal items, but leaving gym stuff and video games behind in dad's house. Then the pandemic struck and the son got stuck abroad, while the father died of covid or something. Son has made a life in the other country and isn't coming back or it's too far and he's too busy. If the son moved abroad he's highly unlikely to want weight sets shipped to him or other sports or gaming stuff. Tools and records are dad's; games and weights are the son's. Possibly they both loved kayaking and fishing and outdoor activities together. Two kayaks. Harley and a dirt bike. Pair of matching bikes. Sounds like father and son to me. Maybe very close and the son is too broken up by the loss of his father to go back and go through his stuff.

That was my thought too. Fair bit of young guy stuff then things like all the snapon tools etc a young guy might struggle to afford, then the elvis records which would suit an older guy, plus both bedrooms had beds in them.

New viewer here. First off my daughters name is Melissa and my sons name is Steven! This property could have belonged to my husband (hypothetically). He is a car mechanic and has many tools just like I saw today. He has a Cobalt SS two door that is his baby. He has a Buell motorcycle too. So many items in this house that had me shouting "I have that". The big frying pan in the kitchen, the guitars, the workout equipment upstairs in the house, video games, the ipods in the box, tons of craftsman and snap on tools, and more. If we lived closer he would have purchased every tool and box you have.

38:11 After briefly seeing the garage, I would hazard a guess that you are well into the profit column. If the Crown Vic is a genuine police vehicle, contact Scott from Cold War Motors. He has two friends (Dan and Paul) that collect ex-police vehicles.

Think the people who lived there were very very young and certainly enjoyed the toys he had. What’s more important is that he certainly enjoyed the good life. Empty beer bottles and gym equipment. Toning himself up to look fit. Boys toys for gaming, motorcycles as well makes me think he was a joy seeker and loved the fun from everything. Sad they are not here to enjoy anymore 😢

Seeing that house is so much sadder than a hoarders house just because you can see the person was still expecting to come home the dishes were in the dishwasher the laptop was next to where they would have sat on the couch the bed was not full of junk it's like the person has just gone to the shop and will be home soon

There is a strong following for Ford Crown Victorias, Mercury Grand Marquis, Lincoln Town Cars here in the states. They were the truly last, full frame, V8 powered, rear wheel drive American car produced. I have owned a 2011 Grand Marquis and a 2003 Mercury Marauder. The latter of which I was stopped in traffic and asked if I would sell it. There are even tuners shops like ADTR that have super charger, and 6 speed manual conversion kits. If the one you have there is a good example you could get a good price for it. They are super reliable and run forever.

Looking at all the things left behind, you get the impression of a relatively young person. Perhaps the overwhelm was not so much physical, for how much effort it would have taken to clean up after them, but emotional, from confronting the reality of their demise. So sad. As always, you are amazingly good at spotting value and keeping your chin up (not to mention, working much harder than most people … personally I’d have been worn out by just clearing away the snow …)

"It smells like gas." If the house sat empty, the traps in the drains might have dried out znd you would be smelling sewer gas. Pour a bucket of water down the basement drain, flush the toilet and run each sink. That should do the trick.

House Clear Outs: Hint. always open the fridge and chest freezers last, as you are leaving for the day or going to lunch. Often there has been a power outage (or they've been unplugged, at some point and the contents have thawed and rotted. The smell can be tremendous and you don’t want to have to work with the smell more then you have to.

@@richardnott9587 For me, it depends on the condition and age. Large appliances are one of the things that really cost to dump here, so I would rather give then away, if they work, then send them to the dump. Many guys need a beer fridge, if the price is right and "free for the hauling" is a pretty good price.
