In this video, we get the truck back home to work out a few bugs with the brakes and engine. Then we're able to actually drive it down the road!

Great video! These trucks were sometimes used up...completely. Brakes, motor, trans, steering, gauges. Everything needs to be touched. But it's great these are pretty simple without all the electronics and sensors that make new engines so difficult. Thanks for bringing it back to life!

That is a good battery you got there. I worked on a 1970 F100 302. Some amateur put 3 gaskets under the carburetor and warped the throttle shaft. I Swap in a 2100 Autoline carburetor and it fired up just right. No major adjustments, just have a helper to put it in gear and set the mixture.

I understand about being frugal with spending and all. But I would have (and have done so myself) just went ahead and purchased new shoes and hardware kits for both sides. Especially rather than trying to refurb that rusty adjuster. It's just so inexpensive to replace it, especially where safety is concerned. On the plus side great job on that carb rebuild and it sounds pretty good idling in the shop! Get yourself a new radiator and cap, a look at that power steering and you'll be good to go. Wish I had a shop, especially one that size!

When you tore the brake drum apart there was no self adjusters on it. you didn't show putting it back together but I assume you didn't know they are required (that they work is a different story). There is a cable with a eye ring on it that slips on before the brake springs at the top and goes around a pivot bracket that goes under the bottom of the rear brake spring. It hooks into a bracket that turns that self adjuster as the brakes cycle. With out them on you have to adjust that self adjuster as the pads wear.
@330_garage3
@330_garage3 4 жыл бұрын
The adjuster cable came with the turn adjuster kit... but there wasn't one installed when I pulled the pads.. so I made the assumption these trucks didn't have an auto adjuster... Now you've made me curious

I noticed you don’t have power brakes/brake booster. About 8” diaphragm that bolts up to firewall and to master cylinder and connects to a vacuum line. That should help increasing the braking power. Cheaper fix for the time being, those disc conversion look to cost a pretty penny. It looks like my ‘69 F250 had one at one point but was taken off. Can see a plugged vacuum line just sitting in that area. Waiting on part to arrive in the mail and will install this weekend. Thanks for all the awesome videos and amazing content. Cheers!
