In the video you mentioned that "some spend money to fix this house up". I just wanted to let you know, that in early 2000 a woman purchased the home, put a new roof on, started electrical work, and brought in a contractor to start with the plaster repairs. Shortly after the new roof was on a strong storm came through ripping the roof off. Falling in financial distress she couldn't afford to replace the roof. Along with the roof disaster the contractor decided to steal the treads and railing off the main staircase. That was the turning point for this home. Thank you sharing this video. It's the last footage we will ever get to see of this gorgeous home.

Thanks you for the insight on the story of this home. I did notice that the shingles looked newer and noticed the newer electrical box in the basement. What a shame that contractor took advantage. Again thank you so much.

I used to live in this home back in the 90s with my family, I have to say it was sometimes creepy especially at night. There was a room down the hallway that I had never seen until I watched this video because when we moved in there, there were other belongings in that room from the previous owners. You couldn't open the door because there was so much stuff in front of the door. I remember reaching my hand in there trying to see if I could find a light switch the walls felt like velvet they were super soft. The first room on your right when walking up the stairs was my sister's room. We would hear things at night down that hallway almost everynight. One night she said she heard something coming down the hallway, she was waiting for one of us to pop up in her room. She looked up and there was a old lady with a Walker standing in her doorway. My little sisters room was the room down the hallway on the right, the tiny room. She ended up sleeping in my room most nights because we walked in her room seeing her horse jumper bouncing. We were kids so you know how kids imaginations are maybe it was nothing. It was cold and always drafty, but it was a old house. The room with the couch in it was my room. I had bunk beds set up on the right side wall. The other room on the right coming from the stairs was my other sisters room. When you go down the winding stairs, which was my favorite part of this house! There is a room right in front of it, that was my parents room, that room was beautiful. It had beautiful hand carvings all over that room. The other little sit of stairs that you see in the video went from the kitchen to the upstairs. It was a privilege to live in this home even if it was sometimes scary. It was our beautiful Victorian home. I mean beautiful! I was devastated to hear someone burnt it down. We were planning on making a trip to come see our old home, but didn't make it in time to see it standing. I did come and see it after it had burnt, it was very sad to see in that way.

That had to be one hell of an amazing home in it's day. All the wood work the details on the ceilings. This is one time I'm glad to see stuff missing you know whom ever took the stair rails gave it a good new home and restored to the beauty it once was. I love these older homes, so much pride in how they were built. So sad somebody didn't care enough to save this once Grand Lady. Thanks for the tour and please be careful. Glad your okay. I know this house is in Ohio, but the details, design and overall style looks very much like a George Franklin Barber design. Most of his work is in the south, from the Western Carolinas over through central Texas. There is a foundation dedicated to his work in Knoxville, TN (there was in the 80's anyway). I'm gonna guess that this place was built circa 1875. The smaller rooms at the top of the back stairs were likely servant's quarters. It was common to have a live-in nanny or housekeeper in that era. While not exclusive to Barber homes, the intricate plaster work and ceiling medallions were signature to Mr Barber's designs. I can only imagine how beautiful the original woodburning stoves must have been. If you haven't already figured it out, I'm a big fan of this particular architect, as well as Victorian architecture in general. Now, on to another topic that I'm sure others have expressed their opinions about. Safety. The first thing I'd like to suggest is that you invest in a pair of good construction grade work boots as I'm sure that you're aware of the danger of stepping on nails during your explorations. Don't skimp on them either. Just consider them as one of the necessary tools of the trade in old house explorations. I might be a little more focused on this, as I found out the hard way that I'm allergic to the tetanus vaccine. Even so, when something so serious can be prevented so easily, there's no reason not to do so. And lastly, it's not really a great idea to go into old structures on your own. Especially one that is as structurally questionable as this place was. OK, I'll climb down off my soapbox now- LOL- and thank you for sharing this journey with us. It's such a sad thing to see something that was once so beautiful literally falling in on itself. I doubt this place will be around for very much longer considering its advanced state of deterioration. I can only hope that someone will salvage the parts of/from the house that are worth saving before they are lost forever. As you pointed out, so many things that were in the house were obviously painstakingly created and must have been stunning when the house was first built. That kind of craftsmanship is almost nonexistent today. Thanks again for sharing. I'm gonna subscribe for sure and I look forward to seeing more of your videos.

@unrulyjulie43825 жыл бұрын
I would say that the house was built in the "Italianate" style. You can tell by the outside brackets underneath the roof eaves, the flatter style roof, the extra tall windows, doors and ceilings and the sweeping, spiral staircase. The 1850's to 1870's were when this style of house was most popular. The term "Victorian" actually denotes a time period, specifically during the time of Queen Victoria's reign from 1837 to 1901. It would have been a very grand house indeed in its day!

what a beautiful house. such a shame it is in such a shape. The big heavy pocket doors are usually between a living room and parlor., The parlor was the only room that guests were received(basically)..and could be closed off from the family. The curved staircase gorgeous.. (two staircases like this usually meant they had a servant/cook...that had a small room upstairs in the back and the stairs led down to the kitchen. The brick thing under the floor in the kitchen area looks to be a cistern that washing water could be drawn from.. The drinking water was usually drawn from the well by a pump.

The cement hole was a cistern. Many houses had one in the back yard to catch rain water. Usually any addition to a house was a kitchen in the rear built over the cistern. A well was drilled and a hand pump was installed near where the kitchen sink was to be. Please on your next tour move the camera slower. We don't get a chance to see what you do.

I'll keep that in mind on my next abandoned house. Thanks for watching and commenting.

EVP at 12:26 I'm not sure exactly what's being said, but kinda sounds like "How could it"?? Not sure.

I heard "How could any of that stay"? I'm not a professional, but I believe it may have been in reference to the floorboards.

I'm pretty sure that was a well at one time

This house is about 10 miles from where I currently live. (2016) I personally knew the family who lived there. I wont mention the name of the family, but there were about 14 kids, not kidding, and the family was dirt poor. There were kids from that family older than me and a bunch younger, we all attended Mapleton school district.The house fell into disrepair, and they moved out. Simple as that. The family still lives in the area, I see them every year at the Ashland county fair. I don't think every abandoned house is haunted. I will say that the kids of that family all had the same face, and to this day, I could recognize any of them. An odd bunch, very quiet.There's a more interesting "haunted" legend surrounding that area. See if you can find Gore Orphanage on the road by the same name just down 224 from that house. That was we did back in the day if we wanted a good scare.

Thanks for sharing this with me. Yes I have heard of Gore Orphanage. But I thought it was up north in Vermilion. I was talking about it with a friend last year and was hoping to metal detect the property since the building was supposed to be burned down many years ago. I'll have to do more research on it. Thanks for watching and commenting.

I tried to reply to your other comment but it won't let me. so I'll comment on here again. Metal laws change from city to city. In Wooster there are no restrictions that I know of.

New subscriber, but I had a hard time seeing, quite dark, but enjoyed anyway. The staircase would have been amazing.

The channel Scary Mysteries did the top 5 haunted houses in the U.S. like 6 years ago and a lot of death happened in that home. Murder/suicide. Being 12 miles from Youngstown where it resided I never heard about this. I did research and the murders and suicide did happen there. Crazy it burned down. Would of liked to have went there.

It just could be a copper! They used it to do a few things, heat water, wash clothes in it, make their pudding into it, cause their pudding was different , but usually every victorian kitchen had one in the day!

Hi. Would u have any idea or a good guess as to how many square feet the house was? With six bedrooms and the fancy rooms on the first floor plus the rotting unexplorable third floor I'm sure made this house quite sizable.
@Quincygrn8 жыл бұрын
I actually got to read a indeapth article on the house not to long ago. It was nearly 4000 square ft. The man who wrote the article did a spectacular job on researching the history of the house. Unfortunately the house was burned to the ground by arsonists a week after I did the walk through. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.

That was a cistern for water. Either they had a well, run off from a creek, or pumped in. Water storage.

I was thinking it might have been an oven as well. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
