STORY
Step into the captivating mystery of an abandoned house in rural Georgia, where the remnants of a once bustling family life lie frozen in time. Discover why this moderately sized home, which housed eleven individuals, was abruptly left behind, leaving behind a haunting collection of forgotten photographs.
In this immersive journey, we delve into the past of a family whose laughter and joy once echoed through these walls. Witness the transformation from a lively dwelling to an eerie silence, as we explore the aftermath of a tragic event that changed their lives forever.
It all began with a destructive storm that trapped the family inside their home, surrounded by rising floodwaters. Against all odds, they survived, but the emotional scars proved too deep to endure. Their decision to abandon the house and their cherished memories became a solemn vow never to return.
Now, after nearly a decade of abandonment, we embark on a mission to unlock the secrets hidden within these forgotten walls. Amongst the discarded pictures and mementos, we find snapshots of happier times, children's artwork that once adorned the walls, and family photographs that capture fleeting moments of love and togetherness.
Join us as we piece together the fragments of their lives, breathing life into their forgotten stories. Uncover the untold tales and unveil the significance behind each picture left behind. This is a journey into the past, where we honor the memory of those who once called this place home.

There has to be a reason why they left everything behind. My heart breaks to see all those beautiful pictures left behind. The sad part is the grandkids will never have any pictures of their parents and grandparents when they where younger. So sad...This was a great find Lesley. See you on your next adventure 🚘 (Hey Lesley, I grew up in a home just like this one. A broken console we used as a tv stand. Paneling on the walls. Three girls in one small bedroom. That was back in the early 60's. My mom still lives in that same house, she's 88 yrs young) stay safe out there!! Blessings....

The reason why? They were flooded out. Probably originally not allowed to reenter and had to move on.

If any of the children are still living they should at least come get photos and sentimental items those cannot be replaced. I don't think they all lived there at the same time, but through the years there's been several people living there at one time or other. The house had been added onto through the years.

*When ever you see a TV on an old console TV it means one thing. The console has gone out. Instead of getting rid of it, because it was so heavy, the new TV was just placed on top and the old one became a table.*

Yes, I completely agree. Growing up in south Georgia, we would experience numerous thunderstorms during summertime. Sometimes a lightning strike would take out a tv and our parents would replace it with a more modern TV of the times and plop it right on top of the older, heavier one.

I remember those old TV's. They were "tube" based and not "transistor" based. Had vertical and horizontal controls on them, and often had to be adjusted to stop the screen from rolling up or down, and sometimes the image would become skewed to one side or the other, the "horizontal" going wrong. We used to pull the tubes in them, take to 7-11 "tube tester" to find the one that wasn't working, and buy a replacement tube for it. This was true even into the 70's

Everything, Clothes, furniture, awards and so many pictures/memories left to decay. They left with only their lives when the flood came. I wonder if they were told they couldn't come back afterwards because the home was condemned and not safe. I have heard of that happening and I just know it was a reason they didn't come back. So sad. 😞

This is what I thought as well. By the time people were allowed back into the area, it might have been too upsetting for them to return, especially if they believed that everything was destroyed. So sad.

Such a beautiful family. So sad they suffered this tragedy and left everything behind. Only they know why no one came back, but having been through something similar, I know it's very painful to go back. ALL my photos, my high school diploma, my scrapbooks from school , .....Everything. I now have NOTHING. The only photo of my mother was in it and she was killed in a bad car were in when I was 15. Hi Leslie! That space under the home we call a 'crawl space'. That thing in the kitchen is a bonnet hair dryer. I miss those, they are a 1960's gem lol. Piggly Wiggly is a grocery store chain. My grandpa used to call it the Pig's Wiggle when I was about 6 yrs old lol I am 68 this yr. I can't understand either how people leave photos behind like that. That's family history in the photos and documents. I have my mom's report cards from grade school and high school and her diplomas from 8th grade and high school. that's from the late 1930's and 1945. Also have dad's 8th grade diploma. He never went to high school he had to help with the dairy farm. Mom kept all our things too. I have all the birth congratzz cards to mom and dad when I was born and all my baptism cards too. I even took pictures of the gravestones in the cemetery where our relatives are buried. So the little kids can know who their relatives were. I have our family tree on Ancestry web site too. I documented with photos as we sold the farm and moved to a diff state.

Dear Lesley, when they first built Public Housings in New York it was for poor white Caucasian people only, so Dr. Martin Luther King came over here. He said Public Housing should not be for just one group of poor people but for all poor human beings. Today all poor or middle class people living in Public Housing should thank him for fighting so hard to change that unfair behavior. Along with that he always said to "maintain a sense of dignity and respect". His "I have a Dream" speech was a very powerful one. I appreciate this virtual tour very much, great job! 👏

My dad's side was large family as well. You made use of every room and as kids moved out you could re-purpose that room into something else. The traditional family, living, kitchen didn't exist. If there was room for a bed a bed went there. You got a dresser and a vanity station if you were lucky and when you were 18 you got a job, saved until you could move out then you left.

If that mold from the flood was the dangerous type (Stachybotrys Chartarum), they couldn't take one item from the house for fear of transporting the toxic spores to another location. It is sad to leave the memories behind but the risks are too great. I hope they find your video so that they can see the photos again. I have seen this before with a family in North Carolina. A Gulf hurricane rips through Georgia & North Carolina in typically no-flood zones so they don't carry flood insurance and their house gets ruined. The cost to demolish it is too expensive so it just sits. And the US doesn't allow controlled burns of condemned houses - it's considered arson. So the family has no choice but to walk away or sell.

My grandparent's home was built around 1850, but damaged much by Hurricane Michael i 2018. For a few years I considered trying to recover it, but instead paid $6K, and that was a cheap price, to have it demolished and removed. For several years I looked at it, and everyone other than me who had happily lived in it were already dead, including my mother, and the feeling of melancholy helped me realize, it was time for that place to be gone. Eventually a new place will be put there.

I was also in your chat Sunday evening. I enjoy your exploring. What we can understand about this abandoned home is one thing. Their family didn't care one bit about their photos memories. As for the house there wasn't a big deal. The big deal belonged to the photos that WE ENJOYED TO SEE. America doesn't make beautiful furniture as in Europe I'm sorry to say.

So so sad to see all of those clothes just rotting away. Give to homeless people if family don’t want them. I used to sleep in a room with my two sisters. We had one wardrobe at end of bed with just room to open door. One dressing table no draws only boxes under it with a curtain around to hid under. A stand mirror on top. Between the beds only enough to walk to get in bed. My oldest sister is seven years older than me n the other 4 years. We had pop star posters on walls. No money for cameras n pictures. We had a lovely time all together.

My wife and I really enjoy your docu-vid but I would like to inform you why they can’t go back in this case the flood waters ruined everything the waters could touch and now are filled with black-mold which is toxic to the body. They are forced to leave everything thing behind and I would imagine how difficult it must be to leave everything behind. The good thing is you provide a way for them to look back…so thank you for sharing.

Hey Lesley, I am so very sory, that I missed your lifestream on Sunday evening! - But I could not participate in your lifestream, because I was on a trip the whole weekend, and I returned just yesterday! Hey hey, dear Lesley, What a fascinating location you found somewhere in the USA! - I loved listening to your wonderfully formulated introduction. Great, dear Lesley! Respect! - Some rooms really are looking like a time capsule despite of the vast amount of decay and the sad fact, that the place is nearly falling apart. - Nevertheless the main living room with the many memories left behind was very sad but also so impressive to see. - I was also touched by your deeply compassionate approach to the life of the life of the former inhabitants formerly living in that house. - Absolutely wonderful to listen to your deep reflections, when you found the photo with the picture of Martin Luther King. - Great explore, dear Lesley, you were doing together with Maureno! My bro Lesley, you are simply one of the best explorers, I have ever met and your explore videos are truly of the highest possible caliber regarding their quality! Wishing you fullheartedly all the best! - I really hope to meet you finally soon in this year, bro! - Stay safe, take care, many blessings, peace and kindest regards from sunny Switzerland.

Haha, not so much an African American thing, but just a convenience thing .. I had a great uncle that once had a small flat screen sitting on an older tube tv, sitting on a floor console tv. . the old console television quit working, so it made a nice table for a new television set to sit on, with room for the VCR too. Love what you do!

This looks like more than 7 years post abandonment. Looks more like 15-20 years, at least. I'm from Georgia, and grew up in a home with the same 1970s paneling. Family should try to collect the photos and dinnerware.
