This house is sitting empty, run down and over grown in a very nice suburb. I was able to find out that it was built in 1910 and the whole property is estimated to be worth around 1.3 million dollars. It does sit on a huge lot and has an all to common problem of foundation problems which is separating the walls and ceilings.
I had seen this home about 3 months ago and wondered if it were abandoned as it was very over grown showing the signs of decay.
The structural damage to the walls may be the reason the owners got up and left and it would most likely cost more to try and restore it than rebuild. Parts of the inside have been salvaged but thankfully no vandals have done their deeds other than a few broken windows. Hopefully this beautiful home can be saved by a wealthy buyer who would would like to restore it. :-)

You can see the quality in the materials and layout. The Red stuff in the bath was most likely Nail Varnish. The secondary kitchen was a granny suite, or a Ma In Law suite. I would jack it up, pour concrete in the subsidence Sister the framework that cracked with a steel plate, and live there quite happily. It would be a race to see what failed first. the house or Me.

Hey Garry! :-) I guess there are companies that no job is too big for restoration and subsidence solutions but for a price that most would prob not see viable I guess. I hope i`m wrong as there are a lot of rich nostalgic people out there i`m hoping! Hopefully the house out lives all of us :-)

Hey Missouri Red that makes sense as i`v seen other homes have certain things including the flooring salvaged well before the place is demolished. I have a feeling this one may be on a heritage list. If so it may sit here for a long time doing nothing. Thanks for watching :-)

Hey L L :-) I was able to find out that a previous owner lived there from 1994-2012 so perhaps a couple started their new life there and raised a family and now all have gone their separate ways leaving the memories and energy both with them and this home. I hope someone wealthy can find a way to restore it. :-)

I don’t understand how the cracks condemn a home. I understand foundation issues, but here we fix them and fill in the cracks. This place was built in 1910 it is bound to have cracks from settling, especially if vacant for a long time. Here in our climate we go from hot in summer and extreme cold in winter. So sad people do not fix places like this old home it is magnificent. We have tons of abandoned farm houses in the country, but not very many abandoned in towns. My husband is from Los Angeles and Chicago and yes there are a lot of abandoned homes, but nowadays people are buying them and fixing them. There is a television show called Rehab Addict, you should watch that if you can. In it the homes are huge and do get restored.

I have watched a lot of European abandoned homes lately, it's great to see some of our Australian ones especially here in Adelaide. If ever you go to Penola could you do a story on the Railway Cottages there. My dad was raised there back in the 40's. The last time I was there was just after the tornado went through.

I passed that house a few times on my way to TAFE. Reminds me of a house we used to visit as kids with my parents. Great for a 1910 villa, it doesn't have much Art Nouveau influences but appealing none the same. That road is another under attack from 'New Urban Developments' as is the surrounding suburbs. It pulls at the heart strings a little to think the houses we all new growing up and as our parents and grandparents are slowly dissapearing into dust. Another great commentary video.

There is a simple fence up now but it is still sitting vacant like this mate. This is a great area to be looking around for some others as you say. :-) There would have been some Art Nouveau patterns in the stained glass if it were still in the front door I would think. Cheers for watching :-)

What a stunner this Home was in its time. It is so sad to see the structural issues destroying it. Lovely built in closets, and the arches really lend an air of elegance. Nice to see the small stained glass windows still intact and bright as ever. You do a very good job of showing us the places you explore. This had a very airy and open look for having been built in 1910. I really like the numerous fireplaces and the size of the rooms. Most bathrooms from this period are small and very basic, where this one seemed quite spacious. I have some serious kitchen lust happening here, the cabinetry is so well done, and that glass wall just make it a place you would enjoy working in. She was a grand lady in her time...I would have made that car port into a solarium. The separate unit might have been a guest house, or possibly quarters for house staff. Thanks for sharing this with us.🖤🇨🇦

Literally just got back from filming another old home just like this only smaller. exact same 1910 build date and sandstone too! Stained glass, gingerbread in the doors! (I learned that from your other comments) :-) The one i just got back from has had the nice wooden floor salvaged already though and the roof sheeting. This one in this video here is still becoming more over grown and is such a shame to be falling it to the state it is. Regarding the size of the bathroom, it seems there may have been an upgrade or two over the years that has extended the size to what it is now. Cheers for watching :-)

Urbex Indigo Well, at least if the old beauty has to go, she can be an organ donor for places that will have more life because of her. This was the kind of house I would love to interior design...there was so much scope to work with. I’m delighted to have shared “Gingerbread” with you...we should all learn a new expression a day, now that could be fun. I suspect you have the right of it on the washroom...mine is reminiscent of a closet where each fixture was allotted minimum space while still letting me in... I must say, the tub is long, deep, and hedonistic at least. My home is 1870s, so I guess I should be glad it wasn’t an outhouse and a zinc washing basin. No wonder they were called “water closets” Great video, thanks.🖤🇨🇦

Such a shame. I drove past this one the other day and it is still becoming more over grown....I wonder if it is heritage listed or at least on a house of significance list and cannot be repaired until the right buyer with the right guidance from heritage and construction assess it.. I just love the old archways in the hall. It's so nice and large, love the wooden floors and the few ceiling fans. The pink room is so pretty with the ceiling light and window with the breeze blowing thru. The wooden floors are always so nice. The soil must have really settled badly for that kind of damage. Velvet drapes...wow. Oh my gosh, I love the kitchen. Poor house! The second house must be what we call a "mother-in-law" house or it coulf be just a guest house. thank you for sharing.

Hey Eric thanks for watching! :-) With this home and the one next to it which is up for demo as part of the same development project. The owners of both would have been made great offers to sell so the developer can put in a 3 story complex of small units which will make them a huge profit. They have the money to make more money so these old home built before 1960 get targeted first as part of the urban renewal scheme which designates certain corridors to be totally transformed and utilized for space. Sad but very true and precisely organized well in advance. They will salvage all of the nice interior things also. Glad you enjoyed Linda :-)

Such a beautiful old house - I love how all the rooms are relatively huge. I found the bathroom interesting - aside from having the exact same 50s decor my own childhood house had I found it fascinating how they built a vanity around the original pedestal sink, the bath with the twin vents, the terrazzo floor, the wall tiles and even the radiant bar-heater on the wall. Serious De Ja Vu lol

That is quite a house- its more like a complex, - what, with the additional cottage; its huge ! .......Very elegant, and those hard wood floors are something !.... but the cracked walls says it all. That's a foundation failure, and it is the kiss-of-death to any house. The structural engineers will never sign an occupancy permit for that, save spending enormous amounts for foundation restoration..... not easy, and hardly cheap. I can easily understand why it was a 'walk-away." . As one who does salvage- I was surprised no one had not taken all the leaded glass side windows, and the one over a transom- they are nice pieces of Arte Deco. At some point, if any salvage is done, those plaster ceiling medallions for the drop lights and one of the vintage toilets are valuable, not to mention those floors. I see someone has already taken the fireplace surrounds and mantles.... they were nice coal fireplaces........ . Is it the geology or was it just poor building practices that killed this house ? Too bad, though I would suspect the owners knew something wasn't right for a long time- right up until the major faults began to show- after all, there were attempts to modernize the house (I hated the Fluri lamps in bathrooms and kitchen, however....;) . A structural tragedy-- a neat explore all the same--- thanks for showing it to us... ! :) . .

Hey Ana thanks for stopping bye! :-) Well regarding the foundation problems I have found out that here in Adelaide we have the highest rate of wall and ceiling cracking in Australia due to being on very expansive clay causes subsidence from retracting and expanding. This results in the foundations moving far more than other areas. A new building standard was made in the 80`s to try and overcome these geological factors of Adelaide. These older homes unfortunately did not have the geological studies and guidelines in place to help prolong their structural integrity. Still a beautiful example of building styles just not suited to the soils. Makes my exploring options far greater if this is the reason for homes being abandoned here! :-)

At--19:01-- The one window at the door looks like a sad face to me, like it's saying, "Please save this house !" I wish I had the $ to get it cked out & see if could be saved & if could be saved would have the $ to buy & fit it. Wots with all the foundation problems in so many homes it seems? What a beauitful find ! And filmed so nicely. The last part was eighter a guest house or maybe a parent or parents lived with the family & maybe business guests. Take care friend!

Hey GhostCity! Thanks for stopping bye! :-) I did not notice that face but it seems very symbolic! It is becoming a very common problem with the subsidence under these homes. Hopefully a wealthy buyer see a glimmer of hope for this house to be restored. :-)

This graceful house must have been something in its day. Lovely arches, very nice floors. Great lay out and plenty of space. Shame about the graffiti and cracks in the walls. This would have made a great family home. Beautiful room after room. A wealthy family must have built or owned this house. I can see this house full of life and laughter. There must be something wrong with the ground these houses are built on. You are thorough and respectful of the houses you explore. Those days are far better than the electronic gadget days kids have now. Even I grew up in the country playing in tress and exploring anything we could. So much more freedom to roam around back then.
