I love how you took the time to find out the history of this GORGEOUS Time peice!!...Everything inside was breathtaking and priceless!...Such a gem, .....It once was the hub of attention, big names in society flocked to it's doors to be a part of what was inside, champagne glasses clinked, many toasts were given, Celebrations of Holiday bliss, anniversaries, weddings, engagements...along with heartache and sorrow cling to it's walls, the architecture of long ago still singing it's praises and boasting of former glory. I noticed that the obituary of the Nunelly first wife, says she died in Saranac Lake. Saranac Lake had a lot of “cure cottages” for Tuberculosis patients. That’s also an interesting story in itself. Certain cure cottages were very expensive to stay at. One could assume that is what her illness was. On a side note I live 22 miles from Saranac Lake. Keep the explorations coming!

Great eyes! So Mary Nunnally's sickness was so bad, their honeymoon was a 'motoring trip' up North, which as it turned out were these cure cottages in Saranac Lake. And that place's guests were a who's who of the time: Mark Twain, Jack Dempsey, Al Jolson, Einstein, Harrison, McKinley, Coolidge and Roosevelt. Interestingly enough, not FDR (mentioned in the video) who made 41 visits to Atlanta as he tried to rebuild his leg muscles from the debilitating effects of polio.

I recently had an estate sale at a house in Charlotte, NC, that had been sitting vacant for years. The woman who owned the house had passed away, and her family didn't know how to cope with her death. They left everything in the house, and a week after I did the sale, the house was demolished. I just found your channel, and I love it!

I absolutely LOVE the amount of history that you include in your videos. I do realize that information is not that readily available, but you always seem to find just the RIGHT AMOUNT to weave a wonderfully exciting (sometimes sad) tale. THIS house was beyond amazing!! Also another example of me wanting to call "whoever " to come and save some of the antique items left behind! What a shame!! 😢 Thank you for another FANTASTIC video!! And as always.....your voice....I cld listen to for an eternity. You cld be reading a label from dog food and I'd be like....😊. You need to start narrating audio book or something Jeremy. Atlanta is a really affluent place, it's home to me. No reason it would be vandalized and you heard him say someone broke in the kitchen window so there you go. Robbers come into empty homes in some parts of the metro area to take electrical wiring but usually not. ATL isn't a dumpster fire of graffiti nor hooliganism. That would more like Philly or Milwaukee, maybe even Detroit.

@@DrakeDancer I also live here and our city has a cancer spreading through it. Such as Detroit and Philadelphia did for years. Give it time. If you really do live here you see it spreading also. The more years we vote blue the worse the cancer gets. Some parts are trying to severe itself to save itself. Trying to start new cities as we speak. Segregation 😔 liberalism is like water damage in this old home rotting away from the inside out.

Thank you, Jeremy-a beautiful production as usual. I never thought I’d like an orange room (although I do love color and have a Tiffany Blue living room, lol), but I LOVE the orange and white. What a gorgeous room! I wouldn’t change a thing either. The liquor cabinet is very interesting. I believe that the wood on the piece of furniture (I forget what it was-a buffet maybe) was birds-eye maple in the door insets (like you said) surrounded by tiger/curly maple. It’s highly prized and fairly rare wood because it’s not a type of tree but random wood growth irregularity/imperfections. Typically maple is light because it doesn’t accept stain well. That piece is likely dark from natural patina-oxidation over time. Maple also becomes darker with UV exposure-same as cherry. Walnut is one of few that lightens in the sun. Oak can go both ways depending on the species. I always appreciate your attention to details on the furniture and architecture (and wallpaper where there is some). Thanks again!❤

So Jeremy how is LA treating you? I do hope you are being careful there, it is a dangerous city. I still haven't made it to TN, but hopefully soon, still in California. It amazes me how you can take us through the same place as someone else has already done and it is like it is an entirely different building. I had already formed an opinion of this place and it wasn't impressive, then you put your informative spin on it in your hypnotic voice and suddenly I like it as much as you do. Impressive job! Can anyone tell me how this place hasn't been vandalized or burglarized over the years? I bought a historic house in STL in the 80s. 2 days later, thieves broke in and precision cut out all of the antique architectural moldings, stairway hand rails, stained glass windows, copper and antique fixtures overnight. It's a shame to let those elements go to waste here. While an amazing piece of architecture, I can't imagine anyone investing what it would take to remodel to modern code. The Japanese room was one of the most beautiful things I've seen in an American home Cheers!!

Thank you so much! It really is impressive how well-preserved this place is. It's surprising that it hasn't been vandalized or burglarized over the years. It’s a real testament to either its remote location, some level of security, or just plain good luck. Your story about the historic house in STL is heartbreaking-such a loss of beautiful and irreplaceable artifacts. It’s always a shame when these architectural treasures are left to decay or are stolen. Renovating to modern code would indeed be a massive undertaking, but preserving such beauty is worth the effort. The Japanese room is truly stunning, one of the most unique and beautiful features I’ve seen in an American home as well. Cheers to appreciating and preserving these incredible pieces of history! 🥂

Beautiful house. I'll never understand how people can just walk away from a home and leave everything in it. My guess is some of those antiques were left behind by the last owner. Due to the furniture styles being so different. I truly hope someone rescues those beautiful pieces of furniture before they are warped by moisture and mold.

I love how you bring these explores to life by telling the history. So sad to see it left! That is a secretary at the 28:45 mark. When writing was actually taught, letter writing was done at these desks-all the supplies were kept here in one convenient space. My mom has one. They are very cool. This is so sad seeing all these beautiful pieces just left! Renovation of this beauty would be daunting.

Covering wood floors with carpet or rugs was a thing in the 40's, 50's, and 60's. Putting in wood floors was common in even the most modest homes prior to the 1970's so rugs and carpets in the early to mid-century was the style. Beautiful house. Thank you for the wonderful historical context including related films. It's really rare in abandoned home films from what I've observed.

Your digs are amazing , love your decor right down to your tool cabinets, your Triumph and accessories. Plus your material cloth (reminds me of france) and chair to match. I like the way you changed things up bringing in the different eras. Fortunately (or unfortunately), a lot of the furniture left in that house isn't too old.... A lot of it, like the off-white French Provincial bedroom suite is "expensive" 1970s furniture. The wardrobe with the carved lady on the door, is "high end" late Seventies, early Eighties from the word GO. There are few China Cabinets that are antique, a couple of desks that are antique, and a few of the chairs look to be pre-20th Century. A few really easy ways to tell how old a piece of furniture is...ONE- how is it put together? Furniture built 1750s into the 1950s will be screwed together with FLAT HEAD screws... After about 1956, the industry moved to using Phillips Head screws. 2- How is the piece finished? Pre 1960s furniture will have a finish that feels "soft", or slightly gummy to the touch... Natural laquer or shellac. Furniture after that time usually has a polyurethane finish and feels "dry" and has a more mat finish. 3- The Hardware... Like the handles and hinges, the key escutcheons, etc... earlier pieces (1700s to 1930s) will have heavily CAST or HAND WROUGHT hardware on it. The later stuff will have hardware that just feels "cheaper" to the touch. But probably the surest way to quickly guesstimate, is by looking for either flat head screws, versus Phillips Head screws. I'd have to bet that the long room with the fountain and stained glass was added in the late 80s or early 90s, the big stained glass window at the end of the room looks to be out of a church, circa 1880s. The fountain looks "new", as in 1980s new, along with that 2 inch square tile... That look was BIG in the Eighties. I wonder if one of the owners was looking to turn that house into a Wedding Venue, or something like that? Hopefully someone with beaucoup dollars will eventually renovate that one! Cheers

This exploration was amazing. It just breaks my heart to see all the beautiful furniture and furnishings so neglected. I’ve lived in the south my entire 76 years and the humidity will ruin a home very quickly if not abated. The oriental art dealer should donate the mansion and contents to one of the conservation societies of Atlanta. His generosity would be very much appreciated for generations to come.

Fantastic production! Some of those homes had 2 dining rooms that were used depending on what kind of event. Also, the china cabinets and buffets are what those pieces of furniture are called. The buffet held the food (mostly displays of grand desserts) and the drawers held the silverware and napkins and table cloths and dishes.
